Works great. Seems to occasionally take a long time to make the Bluetooth connection to my A1X.I am however disappointed I'm back to buying batteries. Seems like you could fit a rechargeable battery in the space where the 3 AAA batteries go. I thought I was done buying batteries; one of the big reasons I bought into the ProFoto system in the first place. The standard Connect is rechargeable and seems like the $400 version should be too.

This would have been perfect if it didn't need aaa batteries and was rechargeable like the connect through usb c which was so quick and easy to recharge back to full before a shoot. It's a complete pain these days to always be buying aaa batteries that will end up ultimately in landfill, even buying rechargeable aaa's and recharging them is a hassle.Nice new design and it looks cool, but can't give it more than two stars for the battery issue. Sorry Profoto, everything you are doing at the moment is great, just not this. I still love the original air remote the most.

The studio I work at has 20+ photo bays and uses all Profoto equipment. The 8 channel tranmitters were a pain. The lack of channels was terrible and the hotshoe mount was super week and broke all the time. These new transmitters look great, have all the channels we need, and have much better hotshoe mounts. The only little issues so far are:- The rotary dial is a little weird/hard to rotate- the button in the center of the rotary dial is finicky and likes to register double clicks.- need better documentation on profoto equipment about what Air version they are and what Air features they will have or not have. Some Products don't say anything about what Air version they are.

(This is an update to an earlier one-star review. I'd prefer to give it 3.5 stars, but 4 seems too high.)I had originally purchased one of these shortly after release, and had returned it, writing it off as unusable and not worth the trouble due to the very difficult-to-turn control dial and limited functionality with a lot of my lights. However, after Profoto released an update to the D2s which made it possible to see the actual (as opposed to relative) output of the lights, I decided to give it another shot, as most of my kit is comprised of D2s.Bottom line, the dial still stinks. It is so awkward and hard to turn, I often have to do this weird pinching motion with two fingers to get it to move. Moving up by 1/10th of a stop is manageable, but adjusting by a full stop is a serious workout for your hands. I wonder if Profoto was trying to make it difficult for a user to accidentally spin the wheel and change settings- if that was their intention they nailed it; this dial will NOT move unless you exert some major effort to push it. I'm slowly getting used to the ergonomics, but I find it pretty silly to be struggling with this thing in front of my clients.(FYI, the dials on the A1, A10, and A2 are all amazing- why not just use those? The Connect Pro unit has a modeling light and auto function button on the top, Profoto could have moved them to the right side of the controller and made more room for a big, grabbable wheel on the top. Hopefully in version 2?)It's a shame the dial is so bad, because the rest of the unit is incredible. Big, bright display, killer battery life, majorly improved functionality (6 groups of lights! Actual flash power readings!) It seems built to last and the little zipper carrying case it ships with is sweet. It's a small thing but the squared and minimalist aesthetic is a great visual match for the R-series of Canon cameras too.Still not sure why Profoto didn't announce compatibility with the D2 when they announced this, but after updating the firmware on my D2 units, they work as seamlessly as any of the other compatible lights. If you're on the fence and can live without three more groups (D, E, F) and actual flash output readings, I'd maybe hold off until they release an updated version with better ergonomics. If you have compatible lights (A10, A2, B10X, B10X Plus, D2, Pro 11), and those features are important, it is probably worth the learning curve for the functionality.I'm such a huge fan of Profoto, and I truly hope they address this issue with an updated version soon!
I got this after the D2 firmware update allows it to show the actual power rather than +/- relative adjustments with this remote. It works very well, though if you adjust power on the back of the flash, the change won't be reflected on the remote, and after adjustment on the remote, it will jump to the power as shown on the remote - so don't adjust power on the back of the flash in AirX mode and it won't be an issue. The app on my iPhone is VERY good! It connects immediately when I open it - why can't my Canon R5 connect so easily? I don't use the Canon app with my camera because connecting is just a PITA. But the Profoto app just works!Battery life in my old AirTTL wasn't great, with the 2 AAA's. Battery life with this, and its 3 AAA's has been very good (haven't tried recyclables yet), and in Manual mode, I can do several full day events. The reliability in equine arenas seems to be much improved over the AirTTL and A1/A10. With flashes mounted up on girders, some 100-200' away, in Manual, I would have occasional misfires on a unit that was pointed the wrong way. I started using a hotshoe extension cord to mount the remote to the fence to keep it pointed in the optimal direction even when I pan my camera around the arena - but it's been much easier so far to find a reliable position than with the AirTTL or A1/A10. (There's one really troublesome arena I haven't been back to yet, and I hope it solves my problems there!)What I don't like: The battery door is fidgety, and the door comes completely off, so don't lose it! I think there's a reason for it though - there appears to be a port inside for a future rechargable battery, which will hopefully be easy and quick to swap. Before I got this, I was using my A1 or A10 as a remote when shooting events on tripod, so I can easily swap batteries, and have 4 channels instead of AirTTL's 3. But this remote allows for 6, which is much better for complicated studio setups.Another dislike is that the knob could be improved. Since it uses a knob, you can't easily adjust in full-stop increments like the other remotes - just gotta spin that wheel. And the design and feel of the wheel could probably be improved, but it's been a minor issue for me.I'm glad I got this! If they come out with a little battery pack that can be swapped easily without removing the remote from the camera, it will be almost perfect!
Pros: beautiful display, unit itself looks cool as hell, in theory the ability to see absolute flash power is super useful (though I don't want to replace my B1Xs and B10s just for this trigger; I can't afford to trade my D2s for a Pro-11 either).Cons: Basically impossible to use. The main adjustment dial is a joke and takes tremendous effort to turn. 1/10 stop increments are hard; full stop increments are not possible. I tried it for about five minutes in the studio and put it back in the box to send in for return. Normally I'd give a new device a bit of time for learning curve/acclimation, but there's just zero incentive for me to suffer through whatever transition period needed to get used to using this.Tip: if you, like most Profoto photographers, have a mix ... MorePros: beautiful display, unit itself looks cool as hell, in theory the ability to see absolute flash power is super useful (though I don't want to replace my B1Xs and B10s just for this trigger; I can't afford to trade my D2s for a Pro-11 either).Cons: Basically impossible to use. AirX lights can be adjusted absolutely from the phone, while the tried-and-true TTL trigger runs everything else from the camera.I was admittedly pretty excited for this change; guess I'll wait for the next one.
I was pretty excited for this remote as the power button on my regular connect remote broke and I have to shove a toothpick next to it to keep it firm enough to turn on and off properly, and I didn't want to buy a new one of those when I saw this was coming out soon(which then took what, 3 months for the sony variant to become available?).First thing, this connect pro remote disables live preview. Not a big deal for when I do studio photography, I found a way on youtube to change the AEL button to act as a live preview button when held down so I can check ambient light. But when I'm on location, its been awful as it slows down my shooting technique to have to keep holding down a button to check the ambient light. This is more an issue with sony of course, but I also don't have this issue with the regular connect remote, live preview works fine with that remote for whatever reason. And if you use live preview a lot and are a sony shooter, you should be aware of this.Secondly, as someone else mentioned, this remote is 1 way communication, if you change settings on the light itself, it does not reflect the change on the remote. Minor, but also annoying.Thirdly, the design is nice, but if by chance you ever drop this, it seems it'll break much more easily. It does have a more firm connection to the camera though.I think this remote would be amazing, its just too bad sony disables live preview with this type of remote. I use the older connect remote the most still as it doesn't disable live preview for whatever reason.
Right now (2/9/23) the Non-TTL version is still the first batch of the spinning wheel production and is UNUSABLE. I got the brand new Sony TTL version (just released) and the wheel spins perfectly, feels like an amazing remote. So I ordered the Non-TTL as a backup (and for another non Sony Camera) The wheel doesn't move easily, it sticks and would not work on a job to adjust settings. I returned the B&H one and had to return the one directly from the vendor. When I asked Profoto customer service how to get the new production run, they said I have no idea. It's kind of a sell through thing. So if you want to be part of the clearing process, go ahead and buy this item. I will be waiting for them to fix the product to work like the new production run. I, like everyone, was excited to finally be able to see what my lights power settings were from the camera, and indeed you can do that. Everything else about this remote is pretty bad. The control dial is really good at sanding down your thumb as you increase your lights power 1/10th at a time, but be warned if you rotate to too fast, it won't register your settings or change your lights independent of one another. The main control dial is great in theory, but it's very impractical while actually working in the middle of a shoot. At least the old remote you could move in full stops. The biggest complaint is trying to get this to toggle between high speed sync and standard sync. The marketing phrase AirX sounds awesome, and all my friends think I'm super cool when I ... MoreI, like everyone, was excited to finally be able to see what my lights power settings were from the camera, and indeed you can do that. This is actually a very nice remote. But...The build quality is 10/10. The hot shoe locking mechanism is 10/10, much better than Canon's flash, for example. The display is 10/10.What is not that great. Battery cover is 6/10. It does not have enough grip to open or close it. Sometimes you have to press really hard. The adjustment wheel is 2/10. It is nice they now use the wheel instead or - + buttons, but this wheel is a nightmare. You actually have to use two fingers. Interesting, they have the same wheel on A2 model, but it works completely different, much much better. The modeling light and auto buttons are 1/10. I have two units and on both units these buttons are way too sensitive. You press once, but the buttons may be pressed 2-3 times. Would I keep it? ... MoreThis is actually a very nice remote.
