Bought this ProGrade CFexpress Type B & UHS-II SDXC Dual SLot card reader mainly for faster transfer of files. I already have a working SANDISK reader but I wanted something much faster. This piece of garbage would freeze up when I tried to read a SD card, but the CFexpress slot worked. I sent it back for an exchange. Second item, the CFexpress reader would freeze as soon as I would try to save a change to the folder on the card. Nothing big- just like add one small file, make an edit to a photo (again, nothing major, 50 MB at most..) and the card would lock up Photoshop, lock up Finder on MacOS. Never had this issue with any other card readers. What good is ProGrades claimed speed if it's totally unreliable. Sent it back for a refund.

I'm very happy I chose Prograde. It's super small and compact, which is a great benefit for me, as my post-processing station also acts as the family kitchen table and space is sacred. The speed of this reader, along with the speed of a Lexar CFexpress card, is beyond what I'm accustomed to. When I pulled my CFexpress card out, it was quite hot. While the card seemed fine, I do wonder what applying that degree of heat to the card is going to do to the longevity of it. Time will tell, I suppose.

My iMac is not old and under powered, It's a very capable machine. I have never had a problem like this in over 20 years. I called ProGrade and was told to call them back in 2 or 3 weeks to see if they found a solution. That's unacceptable support. Also my exchange window would be closed if I waited that long. Does a great job moving images from my Nikon D850 cards
27 December 2022

I had been using a Nikon D750 with just SD cards (all mine are Sandisk brand). Recently upgraded to a D850 and was surprised to learn the first slot uses a CF Express card. I got this reader to handle both the SD and CF-Express (also Sandisk brand). I detect a noticeable increase in transfer speed given the larger raw files in the D850 (nearly double those of the 750) with CFExpress and nothing different with my D750 SD card transfer rates. I haven't used it long, and I don't give out 5 stars unless I'm totally wowed. This card reader is great and I've had no problems. I sometimes worry the magnet used to mount it may affect the internals of my tower computer, but so far it is sitting firmly in place on top near the USB3 ports and no noticeable problems, just ... MoreI had been using a Nikon D750 with just SD cards (all mine are Sandisk brand). Very happy so far.

Doesn’t work reliably with MacOS Monterey
22 February 2022

I tried this on my M1 Mac with Monterey. Firstly, the Sony drivers for XQD do not work on, and are not supported on, Monterey. That means that you can’t read XQD cards with it.Secondly, only the first insertion of a CFExpress card when the device is first connected to the computer will mount the volume properly. All other times, it would not mount properly - to be sure, you could use Capture Utility, but you could not see the card in Explorer. And yes, I was using a TB cable. Furthermore, the device was even more unreliable when connected to a thunderbolt hub.In contrast, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Mitay CFExpress/XQD card reader, at half the price, works flawlessly for both XQD and CFExpress cards, whether connected to a thunderbolt hub or directly to the laptop. I can, however, say that Prograde’s support and returns are top notch, and they processed my return without question.

Fast Card Reader
13 October 2022

I bought this card reader along with 2 Delkin 128GB CFexpress Type B memory cards to use in my new Nikon Z9. The download speed far exceeded my expectations. Forty-five high resolution RAW Z9 files in about 3 seconds. Far faster than my Sony XQD card and reader that I use in my D850. Could not be happier with the performance. But I do have 2 negatives. The reader has a magnet in the case so that you can stick it to a metal surface like your laptop. I think that's a totally useless function and not worth having the magnet near something that it could ruin. My second issue is that the reader is not recognized by the Photo Downloader in Adobe Bridge. So I have to manually copy the images to my computer hard drive. There is no comparison in speed, Even though I can do that using Photo Downloader, I won't do it again.

No tech Support or No warrantee
11 July 2023

I bought this item along with their 256GB CFExpress TypeB card in April, 2023. I noticed the file transfer time for a single raw file took 5 minutes to indefinitely, most of the time I had to interrupt and restart over and over again. The reader would turn very hot if I leave the card inside. At first I thought it was due to the large file transfer until I started to share the experience with my friends.I consulted with B&H customer support who helped me to conduct a couple tests. Find out it must be a faulty device either with the card or the reader. Since it has past the return/exchange period, I was advised to contact ProGrade tech support.I wrote to ProGrade tech support email a couple of times. Two weeks have passed. Nothing but trouble
20 December 2022

I have never had problems like this with a card reader. It fails to do the most basic thing I expect from a card reader - transfer image files. Sometimes my I cannot get Fast Raw Viewer to read the files without closing and re-opening the app. About 2 out of every 3 times I use the card to copy image files to my computer, I cannot eject the card after the copying job is done. When I click on the eject icon, I just get the colored pinwheel on my Mac, and everything bogs down indefinitely. Eventually I have no choice but to just pull the card or disconnect the reader. Of course then I get the message that I improperly ejected the device. This happens on my iMac and my MacBook Pro, and I've never had a similar problem with SD or XQD card readers or external drives on ... MoreI have never had problems like this with a card reader. Purchasing a card reader of the same brand seemed like a good idea, but I did so in spite of a handful of negative reviews for this one. My mistake! This is a bad piece of hardware. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere.

Stop Connecting Your Camera
12 September 2022

I've had my fair share of camera card readers over the years. This one has some surprising upgrades including the ability to attach to things via a magnet. Yeah, I wasn't that excited about this feature until I used it to attach to the back of my LG monitor without the included sticker panel. Genius little innovations that make things better. Love it!The only thing I'll mention is that I've noticed that if your computer is asleep when you place your memory card into the reader, it will not show up when you wake the computer. You'll need to remove the card and insert it again after it is awake. Hope this helps!

This gets very hot
12 October 2022

This is a very fast unit, except it gets very hot very fast. I bought the Wise CFX/SF Card Reader Model No WA-CX507 at the recommendation of a techie at B&H and it works like a charm. Does get warm, but not HOT. The case is aluminum which transfers heat very well. The ProGrade is plastic and might be faster, but electronics don't appreciate heat. Caution, this was recommended to work with the two cards in my R5. Works with my Canon G15 and the waterproof model too. The computer i download to is an iMac SSD 1 TB 27 monitor and they get along just fine. I use SanDisk cards exclusively. Sometimes i miss my Oly OM-1 and Kodachrome25. The tech department at B&H is five star.
