This instrument is exquisite. Top-notch build quality and tone. According to the pros, these PAF-style pickups resemble those of a '59 Les Paul. The single-coil tones are balanced and offer additional versatility. The humbuckers sound warm and woody compliments of the hollow body construction.I purchased this guitar one month ago and fully meets and/or exceeds my expectations. American Musical offers excellent and fast service along with flexible payment plans. The instrument was professionaly packed and shipped arriving factory-fresh and in mint condition.

Overall:First off I'd like to respond to the previous reviewer. He stated that there was zero sustain with the 594. The specs state that the pickups are LT which means Low Turn. The guitar was built for the vintage gang out there and these particular pickups are not high output but that's nothing that a boost pedal won't remedy. Had the previous reviewer researched this instrument, he would have found that the pickups excel in clarity and definately have the vintage vibe. What Paul was trying to do was make an instrument that would have followed the progression of a Les Paul. Also if the reviewer wanted a guitar for anything including hard rock and metal, he should have picked up the Custom 22 or 24. With that being said, I love this model and have had one for ... MoreOverall:First off I'd like to respond to the previous reviewer. He stated that there was zero sustain with the 594. This guitar was made to feel and sound similar to a late 50's LP with a PRS twist, and knocks it out of the park! The pickups sound very vintage, and the neck pickup is super creamy. Coil taps work great. I opened the back cavity, and it was perfectly routed. The electrical work was done very neatly; I have Gibsons that aren't soldered as well as this instrument. Neck is a tad bit thicker than 60's era but very comfy. It's pretty light but perfectly balanced as well. I changed the strings to 9's without having to touch the truss rod, and only had to intonate one saddle. For a guitar with a poly finish, the neck wasn't quite as sticky as I thought it would be, and it plays very comfortably. And the flame tops is as good as the pictures! Comes with a pretty standard ... MoreThis guitar was made to feel and sound similar to a late 50's LP with a PRS twist, and knocks it out of the park! I actually own this exact guitar in Dark Cherry Sunburst.
3 December 2022

I bought this guitar this summer from G/C in Rancho Cuc, CA! SO WEIRD to see my exact guitar on their website. I did a double-take when I saw the unique curly maple pattern and had to check the serial number. Same! I'm still getting used to it. But, I LOVE it!

I was trying to buy the SE version of the PRS McCarty 594. It was back ordered and no delivery date in sight. The 594 was what I wanted though so I figured, what the heck. Just get the core. I was not disappointed in the least. The versatility of these guitars is outstanding. PRS isn't the only company to utilize the push / pull pots for coil split. However, I'd say they do it as good as or better than anyone else. I can get the smoothest and softest tones from this guitar, then I can also get pretty darn dirty with it. I don't play heavy metal, but for southern rock, blues and classic rock this has it in the bag.The craftsmanship? Now, I'd have to say no one else does it like PRS. The curves on the core model can only be admired by laying actual eyes on it. ... MoreI was trying to buy the SE version of the PRS McCarty 594. It was back ordered and no delivery date in sight. Overall:Finish is beautiful. Needed small setup to my liking, otherwise plays good out of the box. You can feel the quality of the guitar. Playability and sound are wonderful. It’s definitely worth the price. Plus it’s a USA made guitar. PRS is on their game and hit a home run with is one. zZounds made it affordable and shipping was fast as always. Been a customer for over 10 yrs. They are my go to company for my musical needs.

Puts my 2019 Les Paul Standard 60's to SHAME

Overall:The title says it all and I absolutely hate to say that because I've been a Gibson fanboy my entire life (and I'm 50 years old, been playing for 40 of those years)...but it's true. The PRS S2 McCarty plays better, sounds better, feels better, looks better- and it's $750 cheaper. The pickups are the import versions of the 58/15 set and they're so harmonic and rich, I can't believe how much better they sound than the Burstbuckers. Don't get me wrong, a Les Paul is a fabulous instrument and has a history with musicians all over the world; but when something is just as good or better then that's how the mop flops and I'll be honest about it. Only issue I had at first was a buzzing in the bridge on 3rd string. What it turned out to be was the intonation screw ... MoreOverall:The title says it all and I absolutely hate to say that because I've been a Gibson fanboy my entire life (and I'm 50 years old, been playing for 40 of those years)...but it's true. Plugged in I couldn't ever hear it even on a clean channel so I knew it wasn't the frets or anything like that. Anyway if you're a fan of the Les Paul and the Strat do yourself a favor and check these babies out. You'll be glad you did.

Just awesome. Flawless build quality, playability and appearance. If you like a Les Paul, you'll like this even more. I was an out and out Gibson and Fender man for 25 years and was a little snobby with other brands. Give one of these a go, they are superb.

Solid, not amazing.

Overall:I've had several PRS guitars, from core Custom 24s to SE's to S2's. This example is an S2 McCarty 594. It feels nice, looks nice and plays nice. That's about the extent of it. It doesn't do anything to excite the senses. I have a Prestige Heritage Standard that just begs to be played and is inspiring. These guitars, while solid, are just kind of "meh". There is one thread that I find runs through most, if not all PRS guitars I've tried; I absolutely do not like PRS pickups. The ones in this McCarty are very dull, like a blanket has been thrown over them. No clarity, they're just "there". In summary, these are good guitars, but you'd really need to spend some additional money to make them great. Whether or not you want to go down that road is, of course, up ... MoreOverall:I've had several PRS guitars, from core Custom 24s to SE's to S2's. This example is an S2 McCarty 594.
