I bought this jacket as a replacement for my existing Rab Alpinelight that I had bought 5ish years ago. That jacket is still amazing, warm, cozy, in-tact, however, I've grown a bit so needed a replacement. I read the reviews on this coat about how quality had gone down and I hoped I would get lucky with my purchase. Well, the reviewers were right. I'm so bummed. The coat is clearly not made like they used to be. Feathers started coming out the second time I wore it, the fluff is poorly distributed, and the zippers feel like lesser quality. Otherwise, I love the fit, the way to hood actually stays on your head and bigger pockets. Unfortunately, Rab quality has totally gone downhill, I won't make another purchase of their products and will likely return this really ... MoreI bought this jacket as a replacement for my existing Rab Alpinelight that I had bought 5ish years ago. I bought this jacket especially for backpacking purposes, for my upcoming trip in the mountains, to wear at camp or on summits when the temperature drops. I ended up wearing it pretty much all the time, including in town.It is very warm and goes a bit lower in the back area for extra protection. The hood is nice and snug.I like the three zippered pockets (two hands and one chest). It is extremely comfortable and looks good. The one downside (for weight-conscious backpacking) is that it does weigh more than comparable puffys in that category, due to the hydrophobic down treatment. It is a weight/compressibility penalty that I happily chose to take in order to have a jacket that can tolerate more dampness before losing its warmth properties. I absolutely love this ... MoreI bought this jacket especially for backpacking purposes, for my upcoming trip in the mountains, to wear at camp or on summits when the temperature drops. I was nervous buying a jacket online without trying it on so I went to a local store to see which size fit best. I chose large for a little extra room. Best feature is having a jacket that fits my long arms and the hood actually fits too. Medium also fit my arm length but was more snug in the chest. It's not bulky and still kept me warm. I got the steel color and happy with it. It's like a muted gun metal gray. I am 5'8" and 170lbs. I was shocked by how fast shipping was as well.

Love the jacket and the fit. I have a small. Love that is is slightly longer in the back. It is flattering and warm. Not as light as my ghost whisperer jacket but I wore it recently while camping/ day hiking in the eastern sierras and got into the high 20s. I was plenty warm. Unfortunately the zipper broke and I was not doing anything but unzipping the jacket. Sooo I sent it back for service. I purchased it in 4/2022. So waiting to see on what RAB does with the jacket and I will update.
I have had this jacket for ~4 years. I love everything about it except the zipper. As another reviewer mentioned, it frequently splits from the bottom and after four years of wear, the zipper is nearly unworkable so I am in the market for a new jacket. However, this jacket is much lower priced relative to similar jackets, so maybe that is why the zipper is cheap. Besides the zipper, the jacket is very durable and warm. I am 5'7 140 lbs and have a small, though if you are looking to put a bunch of layers underneath, I would recommend going with a medium (this will help with the zipper issues).
Generally happy with it, at least enough not to return it. I've had lighter jackets, and I've had warmer jackets but this one seems to work well enough. I found the fit to be great, I'm a thinner lady but have wider hips, so I appreciated being able to buy a medium, and have it fit in both the chest and hips. I would say its ideal temperature is that 0-10C range. Anything lower or even with a good wind will require careful layering to stay warm. The old models used to come with a stuff sack but RAB has eliminated providing one with the jacket and you now have to buy separately or go without. Some down feathers are leaking out, but that's to be expected and I had found that happens with almost all lightweight down jackets.I bought it on sale and wouldn't consider it ... MoreGenerally happy with it, at least enough not to return it. I am happy with this jacket. I ordered a L in this Rab jacket and a L in a similar Black Diamond jacket and I'll keep both. I would note that the sizing is very different between the two. I am 5'8" with an hourglass shape so I like jackets that zip comfortably from my hips to my chest and have long enough sleeves. I also live in a cold climate so as the seasons go on I will layer under or over a puffer when going outside. The Rab jacket is slim fitting and I probably couldn't get away with much more than a light shirt underneath, but it's more flattering than the Black Diamond one. I also think that since it's slim I could wear a shell over it. The sleeves are barely just long enough and the zipper zips and doesn't bunch up. The Black Diamond one will be better if I'm wearing a thick sweater or just want a loose fit, but I wouldn't be able to wear a shell over the black Diamond jacket.
This has become my favorite jacket. Purchased a few months ago, I originally got it for spring skiing, but I wear it everywhere. It's silky soft, fits beautifully, is incredibly warm yet light and breathable, and I love the deep blue color with contrasting green lining. I've been wearing down jackets for decades from top brands, but never Rab. This is the best. I hope Rab keeps making this same jacket, so I can get another when this one wears out!
You can tell the jacket is warm yet light and would perform excellently, but the sizing is off for me and the Sahara color in person looks a dingy, brownish/greenish yellow, not the true yellow depicted. About the size - I'm 5'6 with a short torso, 34C, 27" waist, and 39" hips. I'm not ally a small up top but opt for larger sizes to sit over my hips since most outdoor brands I've tried are made for taller women with a smaller waist to hip ratio. There was so much extra fabric in the chest and stomach area but the hips were snug. I cinched it and folded the bottom up about 8" and it looked okay, but that makes the pockets not functional. For nearly $300 it's an immediate return due to the sizing and color. Agree with others that it isn't cut for more straight figures.
I've had my Microlight Alpine down jacket for about a year now. I love so many things about it:1. I've washed it once (a couple of weeks ago) with Nikwax, it turned out beautifully (i'm always scared about washing down and typically don't).2. The length (it covers my butt but is not so long that i feel the need for a 2-way zipper)3. The hood (it is very functional, not too tight and not too loose, just the right size, keeps my head warm, the firm brim totally keeps the rain out of my face, and the hood is super easy to put on when needed),4. The outside pockets size and placement (some jackets (other brands) have the outside pockets too high so your arms can't rest comfortably).5. It is totally windproof (which i was delightfully surprised to experience), and has some water resistance.6. It is lightweight, VERY comfortable, warm, and breathable.7. The jacket is close enough to my body that there's not so much air between my body and the jacket (which would make me feel not as warm) yet at the same time, it's loose enough to allow me to comfortably add 1 or 2 more layers underneath it.8. I can wear it fully zipped up, with or without using the hood, and still be very comfortable.9. Fully zipped, with the hood on, it covers my chin but not my mouth (which is perfect)10. Fully zipped, without the hood on, it comfortable rests either on my chin, OR below my chin, on my neck, depending on where i want it (many jackets, when you have it fully zipped, is not flexible enough to allow you to comfortably have the jacket under your chin/not covering your chin)I am 5'2", 125 lbs, 36A, 37" hips, with broad shoulders and the Rab Microlight Alpine Down jacket in a UK10 is the perfect size for me.Just 2 things would make this jacket perfect:1. using 800 or 850 FP down instead of 700 (i get cold really, really easily, and also prefer lighter weight jackets, so...definitely prefer a higher Fill Power), and2. making the jacket shed less down and feather ; like other reviewers, i have noticed NOT a small amount of feathers and down leaking from the jacket regularly <- because of this, i question how long this jacket can work as a "warm" jacket. All in all, i love this jacket A LOT and am actually considering buying another one in a different color. I've been wearing it every single day during the winter season.
