Very convenient. Works great with the app. I live in New Jersey and the module enables me to operate the irrigation controller at my house in Florida on my iPhone. It was easy to install (plug and play on my ESP-TM2 controller), and easy to set up through the app (just follow the instructions). It was not connecting initially to my WiFi which I found out was due to my WiFi being dual band and transmitting both 2.4 G and 5 G frequencies. Even if you direct the module to connect to the 2.4 G band, it is unable to while the 5 G frequency is active. The only solution I found was to turn off the 5 G frequency on the wifi router. The customer should not have to sacrifice fast WiFi connection to the rest of their smart devices in the house in order to enjoy the benefits of only this one controller.

Don’t waste your money to upgrade from prior WiFi module

Bought this newer version to replace the older WiFi module I had and I honestly don’t see a difference. I should have just kept the older one and saved myself the money. If anything, it now takes me longer to connect to my controller to make any changes or to manually initiate a watering. If you aren’t already using a WiFi module, I guess it works as expected but this was advertised as an upgrade with additional features and capabilities which I honestly don’t see. I purchased it because I received a pop-up message when I recently went into the Rainbird app. So I assumed it was worth it and they were offering a slight discount to upgrade. Should have known better. If it’s still available, save yourself some money and purchase the older version.

My network is not subnetted in any way and I have zero internal firewalls).I opened a case with support, they said to open port 80 and '80.80' in my firewall and that I would need to contact my ISP. First issue with this is WHY are you using port 80 and 8080? How about 443?So, I gave up when they asked my to open port '80.80' (since it is really supposed to be 8080 and I am dealing with level 1 support which is very scripted).I go back and forth with my model and get port 80 open, but still am unable to do anything with the controller outside my network. I finally email support back and tell ask why I cannot access the controller when I am on my network but on a different SSID.This finally gets it to get escalated, but I get asked a few more questions (which make sense). I answer them and have heard nothing back in more than a month! So, I spent $99 on a devices to make my life easier, and have now spent more than 3 hours troubleshooting for something that I can't even use as a paperweight!I have multiple Internet enabled devices in my house on different SSIDs and hard wired and can access all of them remotely from my phone from inside and outside my network, but, somehow Rain Bird appears to be the ONLY one which requires port 80 and 8080 AND cannot use a different SSID.To me, this feels like they rushed to the market to get something that is marginally functional so they could say that they have a WiFi enabled controller, when they really don't.Once again, from this whole experience, I am incredibly disappointed and will probably go out and buy a Rachio or something else that actually will work or just use my old Blossom that still works!

LNK2 WiFi Module upgrade.
20 August 2023

I upgraded to the new Rain Bird LNK2 WiFi Module from the Model: F55000 WiFi Module in my ESP-Me Series Controller. Before switching out WiFi Modules I saved screen shots of my previous sprinkler zone groupings and settings so I could set them up the same. You loose all your settings when you unplug the old module. The LNK2 provides better, faster and more reliable WiFi connectivity over the original one. But there is still room for improvement. If you want to test a zone after fixing a sprinkler head, you run the zone for a minute. You tell it to stop before a full minute it gets lost and you have to go out and come back in to be able to rerun the test.

Miss leading on the rain forecast
20 July 2024

I am confident that this device is great. I have the first generation. The marketing info was miss leading as it talks about weather forecast feature which I assume meant if it rained that day considerably the controller would turn off the splinkler for the day. Not the case. I been told it use to only adjust for the seasonal amount to water. So I return it. Sadly I was disappointed that given I was miss lead by the marketing hype that they made me pay for the return. Like I said the WI-FI feature is a must have but going from fiat generation to 2nd generation don’t seem to have much value.

Not consistently reliable
15 June 2024

Frequently says something like, “unable to connect, wait 1 minute and try again” which the earlier (gray) version did as well. I upgraded to the new version hoping it would work better; it doesn’t. It seems to work better when the iPhone communicating with it is on the same WiFi network e.g. when I am at home close to the unit. Very unreliable when trying to connect while the iphone is on 5G cellular. This should also have a simple way to turn off a running program, but it does not. I have to keep selecting “skip next” to get to the end of the program.

Rain Bird LNK2 Module and App
5 May 2024

The LNK2 Wifi Module is working great so far...but it’s only been a couple of weeks installed. With the module installed, I can use the Rain Bird app on my phone which is pretty easy to use. I really like the ability to set up, control and run three different watering programs and ad hoc zone tests on demand via the Rain Bird app. Set up and management is so much easier than programming via the ESP-TM2 wall-mounted unit. By adding the module to my system, I can now manage watering from anywhere in my home and yard via the app. My only regret is I wish I had purchased the LNK2 module sooner.

This simply doesn't work with android. I had 1st gen wifi module about 2 years , was able to install successfully but the app was so bad that I just had to return the product. Unreliable interface, but appears weather-related adjustments work

Error messages were misleading – said the WiFi password was incorrect. It wasn’t.Remote access can only be made thru a mobile device. Apparently more than five years ago, Rain Bird made a failed attempt at PC access. Wish they would fix that. Each time I access a controller, connection takes several minutes while the complete controller configuration is slowly uploaded. At least this makes me think any local changes at the controller would be immediately reflected in the data. And you need to reenter the controller password every time you change the interface focus! Rather obnoxious. Also, with two controllers, the Rain Bird system enforces a minute or so wait when you switch the controller to access. Finally, because the whole point of this was automatic weather-dependent adjustment, would build confidence if the adjustment notification included the amount. But no! You have to access the controller via the painfully slow app, possibly making several attempts because the connection is unreliable, and finally get the daily adjustment. How about a monthly email with the daily amounts? Quicker for me to walk down the street and read the adjustment on the controller itself. At one time, Rain Bird also had a compatible flow meter, but seems it was another failed design. If you could actually access flow data (and the poor notification for daily adjustment does not bode well) it would be of tremendous value in monitoring drip irrigation systems.
