The Eccles Cake is a traditional product, which is believed to have originated in the town of Eccles, approximately five miles from our bakery. The Edmonds family recipe and method of manufacture has been handed down through generations. Our Eccles Cakes are handmade and consist of a mixture of the finest Vostizza currants, raisins, butter and sugar enclosed in a shell of flaky, buttery pastry. The cake is round and fairly flat in appearance and they are packed in traditional packaging. The manufacture of Eccles Cakes is very labour intensive as each one is made by hand.

I bought two packages of these to try and they didn't last long! I thought they would be much like scones but they're not. They are flakier and the center is filled with fruit. Very nice, wish I had more.

Eccles cakes were brought back from the third crusade. They were common in Latin Christendom. Crusaders really liked them. Studying about the third crusade, I had to try the modern version. I absolutely love them. I love raisins and dry fruit of the like. They were warm and tasty. I’m getting more for the holidays!

These were part of my introduction to Scotland when we traveled there 30 years ago. I was eager to try everything I was not familiar with, and these were a unique purchase. I think the ones I had there were not so jam-packed with raisins in the middle and had more pastry. These are good, and I know to keep them in the 'fridge.
These are wonderful little cakes, with a lovely flaky crust and a moist and generous filling. They're fancy enough to serve to guests, more substantial than a cookie, and not too sweet but just the right size to accompany a cup of tea. If you wanted to make them more of a 'dessert' for the sweet-toothed in your family you could drizzle them with icing or melted chocolate, but personally I love them just as they are. Highly recommended!
I lived near Manchester for almost 25 years and I missed these since moving back to the USA. Yummy
I am a fan of Maisie Dobbs novels and wanted to try cakes she frequently talked about. Sent them as gifts to my sisters who also read Ms. Dobbs adventures. Fun and tasty too!
Reading other reviews prompted me to purchase this product. These were nothing like the Eccles cakes of my youth. The flaky pastry was hard and and much smaller than expected and the taste was uninspiring. I would not buy again.
I have been eating these (and the other brands which used to exist) all my life. It is sad that the "All butter" variant is no longer for sale. Butter is no longer the "trans-fat" villain it used to get cast as, and in moderation, butter is a healthy product. Also prefer not to consume Rapeseed and Palm oils, which may be GMO, not to mention the obvious ecological concerns.
Nothing like an Eccles cake. Too small. Pastry should be flaky, this is dry and hard. Filling also dry and uninspiring. Like an especially miserable, small Chorley cake. Pull your socks up, Eccles.
