Liberals' shock from losing the election to Trump made this book a necessary if purely fictional compensation. The election of the first female president was delayed, so in this story the fictional president is a woman whose son is on track to be a political star himself. The same sex attraction to a royal heir is tossed in with heavy overtones of 'get back at those conservatives for blocking gay marriage laws'. A shameless political exploitation of young love.

I had been putting off reading Red, White & Royal Blue for longer than I care to admit. It took a friend of mine on bookstagram suggesting a group buddy read that finally kicked me into gear. And I'm so happy they did.Red, White & Royal is a rom-com that is as emotional as it is humorous. The book is simultaneously the funniest book I've read and the one that made me cry the most. It may have had less to do with the amount of heart-wrenching scenes, all of which were perfectly written, and more to do with seeing characters like myself - gay - living a life as grand as the one shown. If you're on the fence about reading it, I will strongly encourage you to do so as I wave my rainbow flag.

This book somehow has a little bit of everything I enjoy - interesting family dynamics, modern-day politics (literally!), royal intrigue and feminism! The main character is the first son of the USA (his mother being the President), giving him the publicity and power to more or less enjoy a surprisingly luxurious life. The events in this novel take place with an election campaign occurring in the background. Our beloved MC is helping his mother run for re-election allowing the author to create discussion about a lot of values, morals and issues our society currently faces. The royal intrigue comes from the MC's love interest, falling in love with a Prince is not easy. While the novel mainly focused on the relationship between the First Son and the Prince, I personally would have loved more details about the monarchy (other than the fact that the monarchy is very, VERY traditional). Nonetheless, the intrigue into upper-class society is still there, the good, the bad and the ugly side of this class are either featured in the novel of alluded to.The voice of the main character was what made me like the book so much more. He's funny, and somehow so real. His emotions and reactions are for heartwarmingly human - he just wants to be able to love the person he loves. It's a lovely, binge-worthy book with humour and love written into it.

I loved this book. I wish it wasn't written in present tense, but even so I completely understand the hype this book got. To be fair, the views of politics in this book are rosey, very 'good guys vs bad guys' which wasn't realistic at all, but I personally didn't care. I could believe a young guy being starry-eyed for his country and overlooking the faults of people on his own team. The romance itself was excellent. The build up made sense and the couple were relatable. It felt modern and hopeful and had a good amount of heat.
This story honestly made me feel a bit wrung out each time I put it down. The story was compelling, and the emotions leapt off the page and into your heart. While I was reading, there were tears, laughs, snorts of amusement, and a little bit of satisfied glee. I enjoyed the use of different dialogue options between the main characters - it felt realistic, and added depth and texture to the story. It took me a little bit to get into the story, and the middle section was tougher going, but nevertheless it was a page turner for me - and I am not even all that fond of stories based in politics! The conclusion is entirely satisfying, and left me with a warm glow in my heart, although I am not sure I was ready to leave these two gorgeous characters.
I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. Super cute slow burn enemies to lovers story featuring two prominent world figures. This novel hosts a full of range of charming and engaging characters dealing with their own hardships and journeys through life and building strong unbreakable friendships. I loved how enlightening I found this book into the world and hardships of politics and royalty. Although this is targeted as YA I do believe it is a little bit more of a mature novel. I hope there is a second instalment for this series in the future as I would love to see how the characters and their stories develop.
This was the first 'new adult' book that I ever read and I absolutely loved it. Experiencing the alternate universe from the perspective of a chronic over-thinker like Alex was both delightful and oh-so relatable. Red, White & Royal Blue is a wild rollercoaster that ultimately leaves you with the warm-and-fuzzies.
This book is my favourite romance novel! (Go to Goodreads to read reviews) However, you can tell when your favourite romance novel isn't printed right. The book I bought was good quality however page 237 has a blank space the size of my thumb where words are missing. I've read the ebook enough times to know what was supposed to be there but if this printing error has occurred in other copies, new readers will be left in the dark to guess the words. This error ruined my experience of reading the book as I was very excited to finally have a paper copy. I understand this isn't target's fault but the printer's. But please do check when selling defective books.
This book left me on a high. I have read a lot of mixed reviews. I know that there was a lot of hype surrounding this book and in my opinion, it's completely worth it. I LOVED this novel. There's a lot of talk about whether or not this book fetishizes gay men and their romance and I don't think it does. I understand the points and I think, to a certain extent, they're valid, but I just didn't feel that. It felt like a coming-of-age to me. Like Alex learning to find himself and accept himself. Like Henry letting go of what he thought he was supposed to be. Both of them finding solace in each other. The other negative things I've read about this book have a lot to do with the English portrayal of the story. Like Henry letting go of what he thought he was supposed to be. Both of them finding solace in each other. The other negative things I've read about this book have a lot to do with the English portrayal of the story. Mainly just a lot of misconceptions, inaccuracies, and small things that bring people out of the story. I caught myself reading a review of all the small things that made one reader upset and I found myself thinking things along the lines of 'get over it.' And when I caught myself, I realized that those same small inaccuracies and misconceptions are what made reading Fifty Shades so hard. Granted that series has so many other issues aside from the small things, but those small things brought me out of the story and made it hard to continue to read. And then I understood. It was so frustrating for me to read about Christian, a supposed American man, say he was going to have a shower. Americans don't say that. So I understand how the small things about British lifestyle and spellings and things can be frustrating. That said, I think the American portrayal was dead on. I found myself laughing at how accurate it was and wincing at the parts that pointed out how broken our system was. I think what really got me about this novel was the fact that I love politics. I see a lot of myself in Alex - in the way he cares and the reasoning behind wanting to go into politics and law. Even in the ways that he talks about his family, it felt like I was looking in a mirror.
i thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, & it definitely deserves the hype!! i read it in one week, with a huge chunk of that in only two days. it was gripping and fun, which kept me staying up late to "just finish this chapter". casey mcquinston is a phenomenal writer, & i was blown away when i discovered this was her debut novel!! i've already bought her second novel and plan on reading it asap. :)
