To start off with I was/am mad at Redwing Shoes for discontinuing my favorite boot the 4473. I learned from Redwing customer service and a Redwing store owner that they had discontinued the 4473 from their line up.(in my opinion a huge mistake) I wanted to purchase some new boots in September 2021 and after visiting the website I decided to purchase the 2233. The 4473 is puncture resistant and able of being polished to a mirror shine, also the 4473 had all eyelets and no speed hooks. I need boots that can take a mirror polish shine and are capable of being ladder laced. l have been a loyal Redwing customer for over 15 years and knew I had to stick with them since I have had such good luck with their 4473 boots in the past. I need boots that can take a mirror polish shine and are capable of being ladder laced. l have been a loyal Redwing customer for over 15 years and knew I had to stick with them since I have had such good luck with their 4473 boots in the past. Also I wanted an American made boot with leather sourced from the U.S.A. The 2233 had the same profile as the 4473 so that was a mark in its favor. The 2233 have they same super sole construction as the 4473 so I was very impressed with the comfort levels these boots provide. These boots have half eyelets and half speed hooks so i can partial ladder lace them and while I cannot get them as tight as I can with all eyelets however they can come close. I have been wearing them for over two weeks and impressed with how easy the leather is breaking in when compared to my 4473 boots. It would take me a good year of wear to get the 4473 broke in to where these 2233 boots are now. I need boots that can take a mirror shine and I was told that I could not get a mirror shine on these boots. However with some kiwi, Lincoln stain wax, and determination I have been able to get a good start on a mirror shine with these boots. These boots are extremely comfortable and the super sole construction can be re soled when necessary. You get comfortable boots to stand and walk in for hours on end. Some complain that the soles are not durable and wear quickly. If the soles were stiffer and harder to increase the life of the sole they would not be as comfortable to wear. Its a trade off you can have longer wear but might be less comfortable, or you can have a more comfortable time wearing them but will need to get then re soled more frequently. Based on my 2+weeks of owning then and wearing them all day every day for at least 10 hours a day they have earned my grudging respect. While they will never replace my 4473 boots they make a good partner to them. So if I had my choice now and could purchase 2 pairs of boots right now, I would seriously consider getting one 4473 and one 2233. My second choice in a boot turned about almost as good as my first choice would have been. Change is difficult.

If you're a trades professional, run away from these boots like the plague. Maybe they were made well years ago, but that is definitely not the case today. I do landscape and these boots didn't even last 4 months. Tread is nearly gone, heal is worn so much it affects my gate, and the insoles shifted so that now only half of my foot is supported. They are completely unusable without extreme discomfort during the day. If you're in the trades, save your money and the hassle and get something different. Extremely disappointed.

I bought these boots nearly 2 years ago as an alternative for my 2418's. I love these boots so much! They're super comfortable, a close fit, and that leather footbed is amazing once broken in. The break in was a little rough, my feet got fairly fatigued, but it was a short break in overall.Overall, I would recommend these boots to anybody looking for a high quality steel toe boot!

Boots run large. I am 9d brannock and got a 8.5d. They do stretch a bit during break in so I could have gotten an 8d, will know for next time. If u have high arches the texon with a strip of poron insole is not great. The insole is glued in place and is a real pain to remove. I managed to get it out and put in my rw405 insole and the boot feels great. Redwing please make the insole u put in the boot easily removable. Putting an insole on top of the poron strip makes for a very uncomfortable boot. Leather felt quite dry compared to previous boots i have bought before. I conditioned the boots and beeswaxed them as they will see alot of water at work. The boots take a bit to wear in but they look good and are now comfortable with my insoles. I bought these as a Naval Aviator, and just kept them after I left the service. The leather turns very soft and becomes extremely comfortable after time, even more so than any running shoes. I kept mine polished and shined, so I receive a lot of compliments on them. They are of extremely high quality, and I just love wearing them. It sounds funny, but they add confidence to every step because of the construction and material. I absolutely love wearing them around the garage, but because I keep them shined, I can wear them casually. They take a bit to break in, but it is a pleasure. Don’t hesitate if you need a quality boot that will last. The most expensive shoes are the ones that don’t last because they get replaced often. These will last a long time. I bought these a few days ago and immediately disliked the insole after a long day at work. It’s a little thin strip of poron that doesn’t feel good on concrete at all. I completely ripped it out and let me tell you, if the earth was split in half they could glue it back together with the glue that holds that poron strip in. After butchering the insole I put the regular comfortforce insole in and it’s 10x better. I like the boot, I like the way it looks and the outsole and everything but I will not be buying another pair of these until they make the insole “removable”. Also one thing I really liked is the little arch cookie. My biggest complaint in 99% of boots I’ve worn is lack of arch support but that was really nice and not something I even knew it had until I ... MoreI bought these a few days ago and immediately disliked the insole after a long day at work. I have owned several pair of these through the years and loved them. But a few years ago someone had the idea to change the steel toe to something different. I am a solid 12 C so I have narrow feet. The toe caps they changed to are much wider than they used to be. So the toe area is very sloppy and uncomfortable. I have even went down to a A width to try to compensate for this but with no luck. So now I have to buy inserts to build up the toe area to try to take up the extra space. So I might as well buy a cheaper pair of boots if I have to modify them to fit anyway and save some money. Oh and I pulled the steel toe out of a pair after they changed it and the toe says 11R a composite toe not steel. Come on guys if it aint broke don't fix it. Use the right size caps.
These are the only shoes I wear seven days a week from sun up to sundown. I've had this pair four years now. I've regrooved the soles twice and sent them back to Redwing once to be resoled (they did a fantastic job). I keep them oiled and conditioned. The leather holds up very well. I'm just now seeing some cracks developing where they flex but there is no shame in that from the abuse I put them through. I really like the no frills aspect of these boots. Just a simple boot without any special lining to wear through like other brands I've had.
THIS BOOT IS SO UNCONFORTABLE AND SQUEEKY. I CAN'T WALK AROUND THE OFFICE WITHOUT EVERYONE HEARING THIS BOOT. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT GOT THIS MODEL SHOE. AND THEY ARE ALL VERY LOUD. I TRIED LEATHER CONDITIONERS, POWDER INSIDE SHOE(I WEAR ORTHOTICS) BUT NOTHING STOPPED THE SQUEAK. I JUST WEAR MY OTHER WORN OUT COMFORTABLE BOOTS.
Recently bought these after struggling for over two years with various safety shoes after my workplace started requiring them. I decided to try a boot because my heels and the balls of my feet are in constant excruciating pain. The staff at redwing took time to size my foot and analyze my stride and found out my arches are extremely high and the only parts of my feet that touch when I walk are my heels and the largest part of the ball behind my big toe which explains the pain. These were super comfortable right out the box. I bought them at the start of my off days so I could have a few days to walk around the house in them and break them in. They have been so great and comfortable. Also every work shoe or boot I have owned or tried is extremely ugly, not these. ... MoreRecently bought these after struggling for over two years with various safety shoes after my workplace started requiring them. They have been so great and comfortable. Also every work shoe or boot I have owned or tried is extremely ugly, not these. They are very attractive without the god awful work shoe look. The leather is beautiful and the boot is sleek and minimal much like a casual boot, which is what really caught my attention. I was also surprised that they are reasonable light for a work boot.
