I recently upgraded my bike from a hybrid (2012 Trek 7100) to a rigid gravel bike (Priority Apollo). Unfortunately, I immediately found my lower back screaming at me after only 12 miles due to the rigid nature of the new bike (my Trek had a cheap fork suspension and seat suspension)! Since I had been watching the Shockstop Stem and Seatpost for ages, I was alerted when they went on sale over Amazon's Prime day so I decided to try them out. Needless to say, they were a great upgrade for me! Now I'm back to my usual 20-30mile rides without any of the lower back pain I had been getting! This keeps the bike more rigid while still absorbing the nastier bumps. Overall, while they are a tad expensive, the stem/post upgrades have definitely been worth it for me! They are light weight and they do great for those nasty city roads and occasional gravel trail. (Review cross-posted on Seatpost since I bought, installed, and use them together!)

I wondered if the stem and seatpost were overkill and an expense for a rider who is more tortoise than hare. But they suit all classes of rider when set up right. As a not quite 70yr old, not thin, not athletic, not regular enough, not long distance rider who nevertheless wants to get out and enjoy riding the roads and paths again on his e-assist gravel bike then this kit has made the experience so much better. The ride impacts are impressively dampened, my riding posture is improved, the painful jolts are suppressed, I lift from the seat less often, my neck and wrists ache less and the other bits suffer less too. So it means this tortoise can enjoy the rides more, for longer, and encourage me to get out more. So yes, for me it was worth the investment.

The Redshift Shockstop Suspension Stem works! dampening road buzz, without leading to a loose feel in your handlebars.I have summer and winter road bikes, with the same frame configuration and size. I fitted the Redshift Shockstop Suspension Stem along with the Cruise Control Drop Bar Grips to my summer bike and it has reduced road buzz considerably. I recently rode the same road on my winter bike without the new stem and the difference between the two is very noticeable. I have moderate Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and this system helps a lot with ride comfort! I would definitely recommend the product.

I've had a ShockStop Stem since mid July 24, in which time (two weeks) I've ridden 190 miles over all kinds of terrain on my gravel bike - much of which could be classed as mountain bike territory. Without hesitation I can state that the stem significantly reduces fatigue on any ride and helps push the limits of endurance on longer rides. Just being able to loosen one's grip over bumpy ground improves the feeling of control and reduces the impact felt through the bike that would otherwise be absorbed by hands, wrists and arms. I have noticed as a byproduct of this feature that I'm attacking familiar ground a greater speeds while feeling like I have control over the bike. As others have observed it's active all the time so in the UK where our country roads are extremely choppy the stem smooths out the thuds and bangs. The stem was a bit heavier than the one it replaced but the weight penalty - if you can call it that - is more than compensated by the improvement in comfort and control. In comparison to a suspension fork the weight gain is negligible, and while it might be argued that 'proper' front suspension might be better, I still want my gravel bike to feel like a light, nimble drop bar bike and I think this stem maintains that desire.
Most of my rides are a mix of pavement, gravel, and a small bit of single track with larger rocks and roots. My bike is a Carver All-Road gravel bike, which does not have suspension components. I use an alt handlebar, which is supposedly less optimal than drop bars when it comes to initiating travel in the stem. I am a larger rider, 230lbs, which likely offsets some of that geometry challenge. The Redshift stem provides much needed "give" for the bike's front end. The company advertises 20mm of compliance and I believe that to be a true figure. You don't notice the stem "travel" on most surfaces, but my shoulders sure figured out something was going on to improve ride quality. My worst case scenario, washboard gravel, is more bearable with the Redshift stem. The stem would clearly be overmatched with true mountain bike terrain, but for gravel riding it noticeably improves ride quality. Setup was relatively easy. I made the mistake of going too firm with my elastomer choices on my first attempt. Swapping out elastomers for a softer setting made a huge difference and the bars are still plenty stiff on pavement. I installed the +30 stem, which might be a little too much rise. A choice of a +20 stem would be nice to have. All in all, I believe the RS stem is worth the added costs.
Very pleased with the Shockstop stem. I'd tried the post already and was very impressed how it 'took the edge off' so nicely without being mooshy. The stem is the same. You can tell it's working because of the reduction in impact on the hands/arms but the motion is very subtle. I only really notice it as motion in the biggest hits. The only - very small - ding I have is that the documentation (very clear) has recommendations of elastomers only up to "greater than 205lbs" even though the stem is rated to a 300lb rider. I tried estimating the steps up for me and ended up with a much too stiff setup. Support was great in getting back to me with a recommendation which worked well though (I could have gone through the remaining 3 combos but since each swap requires bar ... FYI I'm running 90+60 at 270 on drop bars and love it.
Really love this stem. Use on UK 'gravel' which can be anything from rough potholed roads (nearly all our roads here!), to single track, bridleways, and unsurfaced roads and actual gravel. It makes a positive difference with very little if any downside (weight if you care, and cost of course). It's not huge in that it can only do so much, but the effect is definitely noticeable and much reduces hand fatigue and numbness especially on long rides. The downside for me is how fiddly it is to change elastomers on the 80mm, (which seems to be more complex than any other for some reason maybe it was the first and oldest design?). It needs a tool to both remove and then reinstall the elastomer plate thing, and then even more ********. OK you hopefully dont do it to often, ... MoreReally love this stem. OK you hopefully dont do it to often, but it sort of makes trying other combinations a pain, and same for flipping your stem. A minor gripe, hopefully something they can improve on the next generation. Also to note it fitted fine on a Giant Revolt Advanced 2022 on the standard Giant spacers. Doesn't look like it will, but it does.
Being fairly new to gravel bikes and being used to the benefits of my full suspension mountain bike when riding over rough trails I found my only issue was with sore arms and hands. Hanging onto the bars when particularly descending caused the greatest discomfort and limited my pace considerably. Having read a few online reviews I decided that the Redshift Suspension Stem offered a possible solution. It was never going to absorb the bumps like a 160 mm travel fork but would hopefully reduce the discomfort. Following the excellent instructional video fitting was a breeze. The difference was immediately apparent when on the roads before I reached the trails. My grip on the bars was more relaxed and after a mixed route of 30 miles I had none of the discomfort I had ... My second outing was a 46 gravel event and again no aches , white fingers or arm pump. The feel and handling of my bike has only been positive and given me increased confidence in its ability.I originally set the stem up as guided for my 90 Kgs but have found that by reducing it to the next lower level it suits me better. Whether this will change as the unit beds in only time will tell.Overall an excellent product I have been recommending to my fellow riders.
Recently acquired a Shockstop stem via REI, grabbed it about a week before riding the Paris Roubaix Challenge in France. Fit a nice fifty mile first ride in before packing the bike for travel. Riding a Drop bar, Seven Mudhoney, with 36C Bianca Strada's, and I'm about 150 pounds. Set the stem to 135 pounds with the Elastomers, finger wiped on a little triflow on the tension wedge, between wedge and stem channel it slides on, this eliminated the chirping, creaky of the stems flex. First ride, yup, your bars dive a little on braking, Standing up to climb, Sprint, driving into a turn. This quickly went away, as my mind adjusted to the movement. Big test was riding the Roubaix challenge, 170K with 29 sectuers of cobbles (60km). The stem totally preformed! ... Big test was riding the Roubaix challenge, 170K with 29 sectuers of cobbles (60km). The stem totally preformed! It took off the knocks of the cobbles, allowing me to remain less fatigued. Stem is well worth the money for the amount of fatigue it reduced. Now that I have some 400 - 500 miles on the stem, on multiple rides, various surfaces, its a no brainer great addition for me. Setting it up under my weight, caught off another users recommendation, worked great. I've kept this set up and love it. Results may vary, as everyone's a little different.
i'm a huge fan of redshift and recommend the suspension stem to a lot of folks. I plan on putting one on each of my bikes, which is why i bought another. I was on a ride the other day up Mt Diablo when someone said they wanted to upgrade their bike to a specialized one because of the future shock stem suspension or whatever it's called. I showed them my Redshift, and they tried it out and agreed that it's a much simpler install, has a more reasonable upgrade cost, and works great. It's really helped with numb hands and ride smoothness, and I don't think the Redshift team gets enough credit in the cycling community for how well that product works.I will issue one small clarification to help others avoid issues....it's regarding my own personal mistake....when I ... I got ****** off and almost returned it. Then, in the process of starting to take it off....I realized that I had installed it UPSIDE DOWN. Sheesh. So after a moment of self admonishment, I flipped it right side up, and it is now absolutely fantastic. It really smooths out the ride, and I missed that feeling so much when I bought the new bike that I bought because this thing really does improve the ride quality and dramatically reduces vibration and other road chatter. Plus, another upside that makes this even better is that it's simple, and you don't have to have a bike shop do it or re-wrap bars or anything. Just make sure you install it right side up, not upside down like I did initially.TL; DR - this is one of the easiest, cost effective upgrades you can do for your bike, and you can install it in 20 minutes or less. please read the instructions and take a moment to make sure the suspension unit is installed right side up per the instructions.
