Buy this for flimsy, poor construction

Really flimsy construction. One of the spindle rods won’t go all the way into the hole because it’s misaligned internally (photo included). The gate is way too short without the extension, but is too wide with it. This gate is suppose to fit doorways 29”-38.5” wide, mine is 34”, so clearly that is not true. Finally got it squeezed into the doorway w/the extension (any by squeezed in I mean I really had to force it in there) only to discover the gate won’t close again once opened (photo included).Removed extension and reinstalled. The spindles are too short, so they will not hold the gate in place. They wobble back and forth and now this gate is useless (photo included). This gate is a complete waste of time and money.

DANGEROUS FOR SMALL DOGS

on the bottom side the opening is larger allowing a smaller dog to put his head through but when he stands up the opening narrows, trapping his head! it's too small for his body to fit through, so he gets stuck and tries to pull back his head through the narrow opening, this could be deadly or cause severe injury. a child or toddler could easily get stuck if he/she puts their leg through the opening. the size between slats is a danger to small dogs and children. otherwise its nice looking and works great, allowing one to walk through instead of stepping over. for those 2 reasons i give it a 2 star rating. do not recommend for small dogs or children, the design is a hazard.

Good pet and child Gate

The gate is great. There is only one flaw in my opinion. The button is at the top. That means a child press it pretty easy. Even a cat could press it by walking on it. Also, who wants cat paw germs from the litter box on the button. For the price it did what it needed to do however I would like a safety lock underneath the bar under top lock. I separated cats that were fighting with it. Miraculously the bully cat would not jump over it. That allowed the males that got along with her to socialize with her and cat the female that she was fighting separated.

This gate delivers on that front, as it is robustly built and shows no signs of bending or giving way even when our pup tries to test its limits.Furthermore, the gate excels in fulfilling its primary purpose: keeping our dog confined to the designated area. We have found that it effectively prevents our Newfoundland mix from wandering around the house during the night, ensuring both his safety and our peace of mind. The gate securely locks into place, leaving no gaps for our pup to squeeze through or push open. The design of this baby gate is also worth noting. It is sleek and unobtrusive, blending seamlessly with our home decor. The neutral color and simple construction make it a versatile addition that doesn't clash with our interior design.

Looks nice, pain to use
15 November 2022

The gate looks nice and goes together well. It also appeared to work well as first for use as a pet gate for a small dog. The challenge is the dog can easily push it open if you do not reach down to floor level to turn the 2 white plastic pins down to lock in place. This really makes it very inconvenient to use as compared to other gates, and I wish I had purchased something else.

Measure your door
3 April 2023

I like the look and the door it’s easy to go in and out. However the gate didn’t fit in the door way correctly. Without the extension and me expanding it myself it wouldn’t hold all the way cause the door to not stay closed. Once we added the extension we couldn’t even add the pieces to adjust the length. I had to slam it in the doorway and now it’s stuck but works.

Response to "Fix the bottom!" negative review
2 July 2020

The lady who said her daughter could push the gate open if the bottom tabs are both up: That means you're not activating the latch, which could be an indication you didn't install it properly, or it could mean you're not very intelligent. The tabs are only to prevent opening in one direction, if you want it, NOT intended to keep the gate shut. This is an improvement over an older model that had an immovable metal tab, meaning it only swung one way, and changing the side it swung on required turning the gate around. With the new tabs, you can have your gate swing in or out, hinged right or left. She then complains that the tabs don't stay up, but there's plastic nubs that lock the tabs in the up position. You can see those nubs in her photo. Maybe her kid is fixated ... MoreThe lady who said her daughter could push the gate open if the bottom tabs are both up: That means you're not activating the latch, which could be an indication you didn't install it properly, or it could mean you're not very intelligent. You can see those nubs in her photo. Maybe her kid is fixated on the tabs and moves them down, and being loose enough to be moved by a small child might be a problem. If that ever becomes a problem for me, I'll break the tabs off. They aren't necessary to keep the gate shut, unless you didn't install the gate properly. This is the third similar style of Regalo gate I've owned. I can't compare them to other brands, because the first was such good quality and value that I haven't tried any other brand since. Some of my gates are pretty old, but still work perfectly.I'm not as fond of the gate latch on this model compared to the previous model, but it's a small difference. The plastic tabs on the bottom are a nice improvement over the previous model. Overall I'd rate them the same. The gate with the latch mechanism I prefer is still available in the search results here on walmart, and a few other places online.I prefer this gate over all of the taller versions: It holds up against the wall by pressure from the four screw things you see in the pictures, and the tall ones require you to turn the top scews a lot more, making it feel less stable. The tall ones also have to flex more, so the welds sometimes crack.Overall, I'd get the short ones unless you REALLY need the tall ones. If you do need a tall one, you might want to try another model. The design just isn't as well suited to tall gates. However, I should mention that my tall gate is used, and is still holding up adequately. I just don't have as much confidence that it will stay that way.

Small opening and you need to drill into walls
15 March 2022

The opening for this is a bit narrow. We are using it to keep our children from going down the stairs alone, but because of the small opening and the bar at the bottom, it is a bit stressful getting them down the stairs with us (they are 1 & 3) . Also, the tension part of this made me think that you don't need to drill into the walls but the instructions say that you need to use the "wall cups" that need to be drilled into the wall - kind of defeats the purpose of the tension aspect of it. The person who installed ours did not use the wall cups and so far, it has stayed in place fine. It's been sturdy so far with two little ones and they are unable to use the lock at this point, so we are still somewhat satisfied with the product.

So far so good
25 September 2022

I JUST bought this and set it up within the last couple hours. It took a little trial and error, but was mainly easy to set up. We just got a new puppy who keeps having accidents everywhere, on top of terrorizing my old man kitty who just wants to be left alone, so I’m trying to keep her contained to the main areas of the apartment. The puppy decided to try and jump this, but was not successful YET. So far it’s good and looks like it will suit my needs. I did not screw the wall protector plates into the wall, but am still using them and they seem ok. Also, I have baseboards and this seems to work well with uneven walls. I hope my initial happiness with this product holds up over time. I was VERY hesitant to purchase, but I’m glad I did!

Works perfectly
20 December 2021

We’ve got 3 of these in our house now. We had just one in our previous home to keep littles out of the kitchen. We bought 2 more for in our new home because we need to keep toddlers (and the dog) out of the kitchen and remodel areas. I love these gates. I like that they’re walkthrough. I don’t have to take down the gate completely every time I pass through (which is so often). My 2 year old hasn’t figured them out. They set a good boundary to prevent the dog from coming into areas she’s not allowed. It did damage the paint where it was mounted in our previous home so we’ve put a small piece of fabric between the wall and rubber piece this time around. I really don’t mind the damage at all. I need to ensure kids aren’t in the kitchen unsupervised. 10/10 for me.
