Revell 1/32 Vought F4U-1D Corsair

The Vought Corsair was one of the most unusual but also most successful Navy aircraft of WW2. Feared by the Japanese enemy, who nicknamed it the Whispering Death, it fought its way through the Pacific skies from 1943 to 1945, achieving record-breaking successes: 2140 enemy aircraft destroyed with 189 friendly losses. The Corsair's concentrated firepower consisted of six 12.7mm Browning MGs. Its distinctive folded wings made it highly recognizable to ground troops who called it the Sweetheart of Okinawa. The F4U-1A formed the first batch with major modifications, top speed 671km/h. Textured surfaces. Optional retractable wings. detailed R 2800 twin radial engine. detailed cockpit with instrument panel. Pilot figure. movable propeller. detailed landing gear. Decals for 2 US Navy versions: Vought F4U-1A Corsair, VF-17 Squadron, US Navy, Ondonga, Solomon Islands, November 1943. Vought F4U-1A Corsair, VF-17 Squadron, US Navy, Bougainville, Solomon Islands, February 1944.

1/32 Corsair. Great Intro to large scale model
24 March 2023

originally posted on Hobbycraft

It’s a very basic kit in that it only has 60+ pieces which is the same number as it’s 1/72 half size stablemate. But it’s therefore a great introduction to larger scale models with a very simple build profile.

A bit basic but very good value for money.

This is a reissue of an old kit. However, it's a good choice for someone new to the hobby. It's very cheap for a kit in this scale, easy to build and makes an impressive model. Plenty of opportunity for the more experienced to add more detail. There are alternative kits of this aircraft available in the same scale that are more detailed and complex, but also way more expensive and difficult to build. Get one while you can - I bought two!

Classic Revell Corsair kit released as a tie-in to the real fighter on display at the Smithsonian. This kit was and still is first of its kind in big 1/32 scale and has provided many hours of building enjoyment for me over the years. If youre lucky to win or purchase one of these kits, in its various releases, you will not be disappointed.

Old model but well worth the half price. Large plane with gull wings. Should look good when completed.

Great fun build

This build was a little complicated around the engine and wheel housing, but overall a very satisfying experience. When painted and with decals added, this is an excellent quality model. Also, cheaper than available at other online sellers.

High quality scale plastic kit/model

An excellent quality plastic mode kit at a good price. I needed a scale model of this aircraft to help me with scale detailing on my RC model. This kit gave me all the detail I needed. Also added to my own collection.

Well bought this in the sale so definitely a bargain. Not started it yet, but hopefully will soon. Here's hoping it will be an enjoyable build. Only downside is it would have been nice to have some British (Fleet Air Arm) decals included.

Worth the inexpensive price
18 November 2016

Generally speaking, the kit is only the starting point. The rest is up to the person building the kit. A great model builder can make even a lousy kit look good. This particular kit is up to Revell's standards and I've been building Revell kits for the past 50 years. There are pieces with flash (extra plastic that oozes out from ill-fitting molds during the molding process), some warped pieces, notably in the wings and fuselage. Surface detail is so-so, painting info is okay. A certain amount of putty work is needed, especially along the fuselage seams, wing joints, rear aileron to fuselage joints. Despite its minor faults, the kit is worth its not-too-expensive price.

great value

Goes together very nicely, some detail is missing but this is obviously an older tooling kit. My 1st attempt at scratch building on wheel wells! Kit has the option to build wings folded but both "hinges" broke quite early in the build.wings can be glued in down position though....bit tricky but worked. For the price this is a great kit, I added a couple of aftermarket detail bits and its coming together really nicely!

the price is right

Revell is my go to manufacturer, they are priced right and the models are very accurate when built. the instructions couldn't be simpler and the decals are of a good quality. i have built some of the more expensive models and find that Revell is at least on the same level and most important Revell is priced right for us retired modelers. keep up the good work.
