The compact Fujitsu fi-8170 Document Scanner is designed for demanding workflows in small and large organizations. Featuring proprietary Clear Image Capture (CIC) technology, it delivers high-quality images to meet digital needs of companies. CIC technology combines the reliability and flexibility of Contact Imaging Sensor (CIS) hardware with an industry-leading, proprietary image processor. CIS provides precise, crisp images and OCR accuracy rates while also removing unwanted watermarks and artifacts. Another key feature is advanced paper feeding. A large 100-page automatic document feeder, improved feeding mechanisms, and error-free capture of 140 images per minute make the fi-8170 a simple-to-operate and highly efficient scanner. To ensure documents are safely captured, the feeding technology uses automatic separation control to sense paper weights and make necessary adjustments to consistently separate documents and ensure a problem-free feed. The fi-8170 is built to last. It's made with strong urethane rollers, heavy-duty motors, a sturdy frame, and durable consumables. It's designed to efficiently accommodate your needs regardless of job size, including during seasonal peaks and when there are heavy backlogs.

Just an update from the review I posted back in July 2014. I've just passed 90,000 scans (180,000 pages) and the scanner is still working perfectly. I clean it every 5,000 scans as the manual suggests - cleaning takes about 20 minutes, but I try to do a good job of it. One thing I've started doing for my old magazine pages is kind of crumpling the pages a bit before feeding them into the scanner. These old pages have sort of stuck together over the years (some are almost 40 years old) and the scanner can't pull them out as single pages. Not the scanners fault, it's hard sometimes to separate them with my fingers, so I started the crumple thing and no more double feeds. The next to best quality I don't max out the computer, and it looks fine. Great product.

By far the best scanner for a medical office. I have not done any scanning of images; but the speed alone is worth the cost. I had over 20 Epson 560’s and have replaced the high use scanners with the Fujitsu fi-7160.If you are doing smaller jobs where speed is not an issue you might be able to get away with a lower quality scanner. If your volume increases you will need to upgrade; I wish I bought 20 of these from day 1.Highly recommend and B&H shipped quickly and secure. I have bought 99.99% of my photography and film gear from them for years, so I have full trust in them.

This will be my 5th fi-7160 purchased (all are still working). I have a tax practice and I value the time we save and ability to return records immediately to my clients. Documents come to us double sided (ie broker statements) they come in various orientations landscape or portrait. The Fujistu rotates all the documents so I can review all the work online without manually rotating each image in my document management software. Jams and double feeds are very rare. Each staff has one and they love it. Over the years I have eliminated the need to send paper records off to storage. Every thing is scanned and the fi-7160 (and fi-6130z) is a major reason for that. Why pay for offsite storage when all I have to do is increase the size of my server hard drive (yes I backup ... MoreThis will be my 5th fi-7160 purchased (all are still working). I got rid of a Fujitsu fi-4160 and after looking around decided to stay with Fujitsu and get the fi-7160. I set it up in literally minutes - no problem - remembering this time not to connect the computer to the scanner UNTIL I was done loading the drivers/program. And - boom - I ran my first scan. Wow - remarkably fast, seemingly not any slower even in duplex mode. So fast I have called others into my office to see it work. It is the best scanner I have ever even SEEN!
I purchased this scanner after reading many reviews about it, seeing videos on youtube and two phone calls to fujitsu's pre-sales department to ask them about its daily duty cycle. I was especially concerned about the work load that the scanner could withstand because I had contracted a software development and implementation project that included the scanning of almost 30 years of legal documents. I must honestly say that everything I saw, heard and read about the fi-7160 is accurate. This scanner is really good, and I am so pleased that I chose it over others in its class. The speed of the scanner plus the software that came with it allowed me to scan thousands of documents to searchable pdfs in much less time than I had planned for. 2nd purchase same model. First has been in service over a year in and out of a wheeled box, set up in multiple locations scanning medical records. No issues, works with older software. Really appreciate the duplex scanning and blank page elimination. Slows down processing a bit, but well worth the wait. Good workhorse.
I decided to tackle a project that I've wanted to do for 30 years or more, but until the last few years the technology/price just wasn't good or cheap enough. Plus, the articles had to be searchable. I have about 120,000 newspaper and magazine articles that I've saved over the years. The newspapers are too large (largest is the New York Times size) for a scanner, so I'm photographing them and converting the JPG's to searchable PDF. The magazine size articles (about 90,000) I tried my flatbed scanner, way to slow. I figured it would take 7 years to finish them on the flatbed. I saw the double sided Futjitsu scanners, and decided to bite the bullet and get the higher priced one. Much to my amazement, it works better that I hoped for! It pulls pages through at just over 60 ppm, and to convert to searchable PDF takes 10.82 seconds per scan. Note that one scan is one double sided magazine page through the scanner. I have a fairly fast computer, nothing crazy, but I don't know if the conversion would be faster or slower on a different computer. I was scanning at 300 dpi, which gave me a decent resolution on the images for the pictures in the magazine. I haven't tried it at 600 dpi. The 7160 has performed very well - some of the pages I didn't have separated and it popped up as a double feed. It also popped as double feed any on the cover pages that had the address label still on, which is pretty impressive. I bought the Fujitsu cleaning supplies last week, I should have ordered them with the scanner. Just did my first clean (total of 5,500 scans) and it was pretty easy and there was quite a bit of paper dust and ink in the machine and on the rollers. The only thing I have to be careful about is when the scanner is spitting out the scans to the tray, I have to watch for ragged tear edges where I pulled the articles out of the magazine - if the page coming out after the ragged edge one catches on the edge, the machine stops. It's not big deal, I just pull the raggeds off as they come out. Overall, so far, excellent. Too bad it doesn't take NY Times size pages! The software that came with the scanner is OK - nothing great but nothing terrible, it gets the job done, but it did take a few hours of fiddling with it to see how it worked.
We purchased this scanner to digitize archived materials in our library. So far, it has been really easy and intuitive to use, and it is able to produce images of recommended archival quality. While designed for a PC, we are able to use it with a Mac after downloading VueScan software. It does a great job with books (after cutting the covers off, of course) as well as long and narrow panorama pictures. It has only been a couple weeks, but I am extremely pleased with it.
Included software only for PC, not for Mac. However can use many different software that allows for Twain connection to the scanner. I am using Exactscan Pro. This allows m to customize the scanning swell as the type of file, the dpi of the file, and the amount of compression for the PDF (my choice of file). The scanner works without a problem. We are in the middle of a very large scanning project, probably around 150,000 pages. We have done 32,000 pages over 4 days without any problems.
It works for the most part. Really sensitive to staples. Would take 20-30 seconds to start scanning at times. Made me and my coworker want to throw it out the window. Overall would buy. <3
