Very first use the cable kinked on a simple drain job. So much for kink resistant! Looked into replacement cable. It cost more than the whole unit. Another ridgid tool for the oh well shelf. be putting it right next to the 2 orbital sanders that only lasted a few times. Done with Ridgid tools.Even though lifetime warranty is given it doesn't cover what they consider improper use. The 2 sanders stopped orbiting/ Took them in and the service guy said I wasn't using them properly so no warranty coverage. And he knows this HOW? I've been using power tools longer than he's been alive. I can just imagine what he'd say about the snake. As the saying goes. A warranty is about as good as the paper it's written on.

Don't expect this to last if you don't know EXACTLY how to use these professionally. That's what I found out. I'm on my 2nd one, but no fault of the tool. These are thin cables and will twist easily ruining them if forced through too fast!!!!!!!!! I can't stress that enough! TAKE IT SLOW AND EASY!!!!!!!!! I ruined my first, I tried going too hard too fast on my 2nd application. The first was fantastic, I got a bit over rambunctious. Remember the size of cable you're dealing with here! It's a very small diameter, and once they bend out of shape, the tool is done. SLow, slow, slow. If you hit your clog and it stops, pull it back immediately and feed again. My drill is what got me in trouble; it's hard to feel. I think I'm hand cranking from now on....

I am a professional plumbing service technician and have had this tool on my truck for over a year! As long as you don't abuse it the tool will treat you great!-Pro tip if you've run your snake down the drain sever times and the drain is still slow take a pice of cloth like an old shirt exc, and cut a strip approximately 1" wide and 8" long and tie it on the end of the cable with several knots creating a ball, be careful using this as it puts extra stress on the cable but it works excellent for unplugging kitchen drain lines that are plugged with grease.

I'm in the trades and know tools. The Ridgid Drain Cleaning tool is high quality. It functioned perfectly on my shower drain. It is quite heavy, so use a cordless drill if you have one. I wouldn't recommend trying to run it though an accessible P-trap under a sink. For that, simply disassemble the P-trap and clean it manually. While the P-trap is removed, run this tool into the actual house plumbing. Tip: Pull out the amount of cable you think you'll need and mark it with a shot of white spray paint. That way you won't go deeper than necessary, which you don't want to do.
The Power Spin saved me a plumbers call and expense. I had an inch & half waste pipe blocked from kithen sink which ran down to basement then below cement floor to main. I connected the Power Spin to a cordless drill and within 20 minutes I had pipe cleaned out and water running without any slow down or back up. This tool paid for itself with just this 1 time use. Read the directions before you start and you will have no problems.
Power Spin worked as it should, despite that I was really disappointed about material quality and design shortcoming.1. At the price tag that it has, the plastic housing was a big failure. After only one use, the housing shows signs of stress. The area where the metallic shaft attaches to the main body is already slightly deformed, although it was not subjected to any direct pressures.2. The second failure is its design where you have to constantly press the grip in order to feed out the snake or retrieve it. There are similar products in the market where there is a spring loaded mechanism that you can easily engage and dis-engage saving fatigue on your hands or fingers.I plan to return the tool and test Ridgid Lfetime Warrenty claim as well. I have a drain pipe under my cement floor that gets clogged up every now and then. Sometimes I use a plunger on my sink drain to help free it up but it never clears it completely. I've also used pure lye drain opener but got the same results as using a plunger.I started doing research online for drain augers and came across the Ridgid PowerSpin +. I also came across other dealer brand drain augers but I have a few tools made by Ridgid and not only do they perform well, they hold up well too.I was especially interested in being able to attach it to my Ridgid battery operated drill if I chose to rather than use the hand crank.Boy was I surprised at just how well this cleared my drain pipe out!My first day I used it with the hand crank, not knowing how it ... I also came across other dealer brand drain augers but I have a few tools made by Ridgid and not only do they perform well, they hold up well too.I was especially interested in being able to attach it to my Ridgid battery operated drill if I chose to rather than use the hand crank.Boy was I surprised at just how well this cleared my drain pipe out!My first day I used it with the hand crank, not knowing how it worked or performed and I was nervous about kinking the cable if I did use the drill. I put the cable 4' into the floor pipe and pulled it back out to find black gunk on the end of the cable. I worked the cable back and forth with my hand several times to make sure it was clear and then retracted the cable back until I saw the black gunk on the last 2' of the cable. I pulled the rest of the cable out and cleaned it off with Dawn dish soap after filling the sink with water for the first drain test. The cable cleaned up nicely. Then, with a sink fill of water, I pulled the plug and noticed it did drain a bit faster.I decided to add paint marks on the cable at 5' and a different color at 10'. The next day, I inserted the cable and this time I connected the PowerSin auger to my drill and "turned it on". I put at least 12 feet of cable into my pipe, noticed a bit of slowdown at around 8 feet and released the trigger so the cable would just spin at that location for a couple of minutes. I then continued on for another 4' or so and pulled it out. This time while I was spinning the cable into the pipe, I added some hot water a couple of times to help flush out any gunk that might have come loose.I filled my sink up again and pulled the plug to see if it was better. Wow....it was much better. The sink drains like it should....FAST!This Ridgid drain auger was a great investment and I'm glad I purchased it.You'll be glad you bought it to when and if you do purchase one.
When attaching a drill the shaft could be longer to make it easier to tighten the drills chuck. There are times that you might want to have the snake turning in the pipe without feeding it, but that means letting go of the trigger This is a little picky and may not apply to everyone reading the directions but somehow I got into my mind that the feed trigger would work like a caulk gun - every time you pull the trigger it advances the snake (or caulk). The trigger actually is a clutch which engages a gear against the snakes spiral coils. Just a little stumbling on my part to understanding how the thing works. I'm just saying they should have called the trigger a clutch instead of an automatic feed.
Used it twice to great satisfaction. Did it manually once, did it with a cordless drill the second time. When I tried to use it a third time, it didn't work - the cable sheared off and it looked as if it was due to rust. Frustrating since I needed it so had to put it down and call a professional.
I purchased this drain snake to do light drain cleaning around the house. It worked well for a while but the cable kinked recently and the tool does not function anymore. I called to inquire about the warranty and was told the warranty does not cover "normal wear and tear". The associate told me the cables wear out after a while but it is not covered under the lifetime warranty. No big deal for $50 bucks but it does not instill confidence regarding longevity of Ridgid hand tools nor in the support of their so-called lifetime warranty. I'd still recommend this product just with some reservation about the warranty. I am off to look at some different options at the local home improvement store now.
