The wheels are to die for. They are so smooth everywhere at the airport; sometimes a bit too smooth and the bag rolls away.Good space and holder using velcro. So far, no major issues. The shell scratches insanely easy, which is fine, but it feels cheap. Since it's polycarbonate plastic, it will continue to scratch further and lacks the aluminum quality feel. As long as you're okay with that, it's an excellent travel bag. So far, 30 trips and no major issues except a few issues with the zipper.

The quality is great as others products manufactured by Rimowa. The material is light but very sturdy. I purchased it specifically to fit my ski helmet and ski boots so that I don't need to pack them separately when I fly abroad for a ski trip. However, one side of luggage is shallower than the other so it will take some time to get used to it since you will need to consciously arrange specific items on the shallow side.

It's the perfect carry on size for all domestic flights especially the smaller planes (i.e. A320). I never have to worry if it will fit in the overhead bin or not as it does every single time. I've had the Away Bigger Carry-On for many years and while it's a great size, it doesn't always fit in the smaller domestic plans. There were times that I had to gate check it because there wasn't enough room or the depth was too wide. The compression on the Rimowa is great and I've had no issue packing a week's worth of clothes to Cancun. It glides like a dream and is light enough to light without really any effort even with it filled. I opted for this one over the aluminum because this was lighter and less prone to scratches (which can be cleaned off with a Magic Eraser). ... MoreIt's the perfect carry on size for all domestic flights especially the smaller planes (i.e. A320). After twenty years as flight crew and owning a plethora of quality luggage, this particular bag has THE best wheels. However, the flex dividersâ cheap plastic frame cracked right away and I had to superglue and duct tape them together to keep the shape. Why RIMOWA not invest in making them out of a light metal is beyond me, especially for the price you pay. The leather that kept the clam shape tore, an edge was dented/scratched when the AA gate agents in JAX forced me to check it planeside and the zippers broke off (even after it was replaced per warranty), it still did not stay attached and I still lost one. When I would close the bi-fold, since the broken separators did not keep stuff secure, sporadic items would fall out. The top of the handle began to detach as well and the âtelescopicâ bars would get stuck at times. Also, it was also hard to control on angled surfaces and ramps. I only had this item for a little over a year and it was a complete wreck.
For quite some time, Iâve been eyeing the Rimowa Essential Cabin (Matte Blue) to replace my Tumi carry-on and finally pulled the trigger. It has style, flexibility, performance, and adequate protection. I was also considering the Hybrid Cabin ($175 premium over Essential); however, since I never plan on checking it, I donât really need added protection. The hybrid also has less flex when it comes to stuffing your bag, and sports a more rugged look. The two locking mechanisms (Hybrid) are faster than using a zipper (Essential) but you lose out on added flex. Lastly, I prefer the cleaner, sexy lines on the Essential Cabin.
I always wanted a Rimowa but Iâm always hesitant to get it because I am used to my Northface luggage. However, a month ago I finally bought the essential cabin in green color. Itâs gorgeous! The luggage is very light, the wheels are easy to glide on carpet or hardwood/tile floor. Plus, it comes with 5yr. Warranty. The only hesitation I have is the zipper. Since it is the only thing that keeps the luggage close, I am afraid it is not enough to hold everything inside together. Yes, this luggage comes with divider but I am not used to it. Seems like the zipper is not strong enoughâŚI will have to test and use this luggage domestically in case it break. I will have to bring a luggage belt just to keep myself ready..other than the zipper, I can say this is a good luggage
I have always purchased quality (and fairly pricey) luggage- Delsey, Samsonite, etc. The suitcases have all taken a beating through international and domestic travel and I decided to take a chance and replace one of our suitcases (with wheels that worn out from wear and tear) with this Rimowa. On our first trip using this suitcase, my entire family fought over who got to roll the Rimowa because it was just SO MUCH LIGHTER and maneuverable than our other suitcases. Itâs sleek, sturdy, light and has great details and added features. I guess in this instance, you get what you pay for. Iâm hoping it will hold up over time unlike the other luggage brands we have tried.
I had been eyeing this bag for a while because itâs a new technology Rimowa came out with, promised to be lightweightâŚBUT itâs lightweight because the casing is not really hard the material has a lot of mobility, I filled it up pretty good and it had a bulge in the middleâŚSo I took things out also because the zipper looked like it wanted to burst. I am just now using it for the first time and I am not sure it would have survived if it was thrown in checked baggage- i am very disappointed the quality was definitely compromised for this one! It also easily scratches⌠so sad! I think I just have to stick with the original. $875 is an awful price for what you get, even the ones at target are better quality for less than $200- for the quality this bag should be $150 - ... MoreI had been eyeing this bag for a while because itâs a new technology Rimowa came out with, promised to be lightweightâŚBUT itâs lightweight because the casing is not really hard the material has a lot of mobility, I filled it up pretty good and it had a bulge in the middleâŚSo I took things out also because the zipper looked like it wanted to burst. I bought the matte Blue Essential cabin. Have wanted a Rimowa for a long time so was excited to get it. However, when I received the product, there were DEEP scratches on it that are colored White so they are very noticeable. I have read the reviews and I know that the polycarbonate material is prone to scratches, and I kinda expected there would be minor scratches but not deep ones that you actually feel the recess when you run your fingers on them. I was so disappointed I drove to Bloomingdales within an hour of receiving the shipment to do a return. I cannot believe that Bloomingdales would ship such a damaged item without proper QA.
