For years I’ve been reluctant to install an alarm system. So, I relied upon perimeter protections like premium deadbolts and other precautions. However, when I saw the wireless router I wanted that incorporated the RING Alarm system, I decided to take the leap. Further, wireless technology has improved so much that I confidence in this system. This particular system has all the elements I need to adequately protect my home. The installation of all the devices was quite easy and it’s working flawlessly so far. I have enrolled in the offered monitoring service. There is a bit of a learning curve but it’s really more a matter of understanding, habit and adjustments. I highly recommend this RING Alarm system.

Now I did not have any current Ring devices so I cannot say how adding existing doorbells or cameras for example will go but for me the setup was easy. Starting with downloading the app, creating an account and setting up the base station via the App while connected via CAT-5 to my router. Be prepared for a firmware update which you will want to let complete before moving forward. Once that is complete the app will walk you through adding devices using the codes on the contacts. Note I did not pull the battery tabs to activate the devices I was not intending to use so if you do it looks like you can just remove them after setup. Once everything is complete you add the keypad last and start setting codes for each user. All in all the Ring Alarm Pro, 8 Piece Security Kit was super easy to setup, the alarm is quite loud! A big win for Ring whether you want a fully scalable alarm system for your whole home or, as in my case one for specific items in addition to the main alarm system. This is a full 10/10 in my book!

I also like that it works in conjunction with Alexa and other smart devices. It was easy to install the included sensors, but only came with 4 door/window sensors and 1 motion detector. I have a split level with 4 doors I need to cover, as well as 4 windows so I need to spend more to get everything covered. At $20 each for the sensors this will get a little more expensive. The system was straight forward to setup, but I found the Eero lacking when compared to my current mesh internet system. The mesh internet is the only reason this system did not get 5 stars from me, other than that its great.

It is great because the Alarm Pro router (the big device) has excellent WiFi, pairs incredibly easily with the WiFi extender (one of the other devices in the box) which will solve most issues if your house doesn't have good WiFi coverage, AND it has backup cell service built in which could cover all your devices. Meaning, if your normal internet from Xfinity, AT&T, etc, goes out then it automatically switches to use the built in cellular backup and you won't even notice other than it'll be slower speed. You do have to pay if you go over 3gb which you likely will if the outage is long, but it's nice to have it available. I already have a great router and tons of devices connected that I don't want to change to a new router so this system is plugged into my other router and just being used for the Ring security devices. The only downside is if my internet has an outage I won't be backed up but I'm ok with that and it made the setup really simple so I don't need to do anything to my existing devices. As far as the security system goes, I love it! the sensors respond immediately, setup took just a couple minutes per sensor, and I've had no false alarms. You can also customize everything so for example during the day I have the system disarmed so there will be no alarms but I still get beeps when a door/window is open (you can customize the tone or if there is a sound for each sensor which is great). I set the schedule to arm the alarm at night automatically and I can control which sensors will sound the alarm and how long before the alarm sounds so if I forget and open a door late then I hear a quiet notification for awhile before the loud alarm wakes up my kid. The only thing I don't love about this is that it is kind of odd requiring two apps, one for the alarm portion and one for the router/WiFi. It makes sense because this is combining two independent (Amazon owned) company devices into one, and they make it clear when to switch between the two apps so it's not terrible and at least means they are two apps that function very well instead of messy broken stuff in one app. But for example the Ring app will let you change how bright the blue circle LED is (which is pretty bright by default) but then to turn off the white LED which is an inch away on the same device you need to go to the eero app. A lot of devices won't let you customize these things so I'm not going to complain, just an example of how some small areas can be a little strange using two apps for the same device. Overall this is certainly a 5 star system. I love that I can add monitoring if I want (costs $ but is cheap compared to others) or leave it as just a system for me to monitor (free). I think it's also wise to go with Ring because they keep adding more devices and innovating so you don't have to worry about the system becoming obsolete in a couple years, it is worth getting!

I had trouble getting reliable connectivity to a contact sensor located in my garage, but placing the range extender halfway between the base station on the sensor eliminated all reliability issues. The Ring app is very simple to use. It's very intuitive to switch between Home and Away, or disarm the whole system with a single button. The Ring app itself is a little annoying. I don't like that it it's trying to upsell me a subscription or advertise other Ring products. It gets the job done, but it's a bit bloated for my needs. I also don't like that I need to use the separate eero app to change my Wi-Fi network settings. It'd be nice if I could control everything from a single, dedicated app. The Ring Protect Pro subscription is a great deal, compared to other monitored security solutions on the market. I found that you can qualify for a home insurance discount from some providers. My insurer offers a 10% discount on my premium for having a monitored alarm system in my home. These savings nearly offset the entire cost of the subscription! I love having access to a backup LTE Internet connection through the Ring Protect Pro subscription. It's very reassuring to know that my home will continue to be protected and that I'll be able to continue to get on the Internet even if my primary connection is down The included eero Secure web filtering, ad blocking and usage stats are very compelling features! The sensors themselves are powered by two CR2032 coin batteries similar to ones that I have replaced in my car remote fob. Not sure how long these batteries will last but I assume two of these coin batteries will last quite some time. Of course, to activate everything you need to use the app which I already had on my phone for the other devices that I have already installed at my house. Each sensor has a specific QR code to get it set up properly in the app and was pretty self-explanatory in the app. After all the setups there is some learning curve navigating the app and LOTS of settings/options but noting overly complex. Overall easy system to set up and use with the added touch of a wi-fi network upgrade for my old router that was on the downswing. The materials do not seem cheap, but of high quality so no concerns for corner cutting on craftsmanship there.
The Ring pro security kit is easy to set up, integrates easily and it really adds a complete blanket of security around our house. I must admit, I was a little intimidated at first when I opened the box but, in about 90 minutes, it was up and working. The kit comes with everything you need for a standard size house. The Ring app walked me through the whole set up process, the only exception is that I needed the eero app also to set up the router. Although this was a little confusing at first, it was not a big deal. The rest of the process was like magic, the Ring app recognized the keyboard, 4 contact sensors, motion detector, and range extender automatically. The sensor and keyboard just took two screws for the brackets. I did need the range extended since my house is about 2500 sqft and the router and my farthest door are on opposite sides of the house. Once all up, it just worked. I did spend time trying to “break” into my own house and fool the system, including unplugging the router (found out it has a battery backup), but the Ring pro caught me every time. A couple of other impressive features I found about after installing, the system does have a cellular backup when the internet goes down, the keyboard has programable one touch emergency buttons (fire, police, and ambulance) and the ring app seamlessly integrated my ring doorbell, camera and security kit altogether in the app. Not being the most technical person in the world, the Ring pro security kit was simple to set up/install, and it just works. Bottom line, I’m 110% happy with the Ring security system.

Which depending on the size of your house- that might not be adequate. Unfortunately that has been the case with our house. But they do offer eero extenders which are also sold separately. Also, it will send notifications right to your phone. I really like that there are no commitments and it can be month to month. A lot more affordable than other security options! The base and the keypad both give off a siren noise when the alarm is set off. The base sound is a lot louder than the keypad so it can easily be heard. Just by testing the system it seems accurate and I have more peace of mind when it is installed. Additionally, the sensor pieces are easy to set up and easy to change locations without much effort which is a really nice feature. The key pad can be plugged in or used wirelessly which is a great feature! It’s also cool that you can adjust the keypad settings in the ring app easily. I personally did not like that our internet had to be set up through the router that came with it. For me, this was a disadvantage as it didn’t provide enough coverage that we needed for the size of our home. Due to that reason I had disconnected it until we are able to purchase the additional extenders.
