This will also produce an alarm sound if entrance is detected while your sensors are set to an armed status. The alarm is very loud and can be heard by close neighbors.The keypad can be used to arm and disarm your alarm system without using the mobile app. This is very useful if you live with other people. It comes with a bracket so you can mount it on the wall for easy access.The contact sensor comes in two pieces and is great for placing on doors or windows. The two pieces need to be placed within 1 inch of each other to work. They come with strong double sided tape for installation. When a door is opened and the two pieces are separated, a pleasant ring will sound out from the base station. It is a clear sound that is hard to miss and pretty instantaneous. I have not experienced any noticeable delay time between when the door is open and when the base station rings. One thing to note is that the sensor is battery powered. You will need to make sure that you have enough space to slide the sensor off the wall without obstructions to access the battery.The motion detector is a palm-sized component that can detect motion within its range. I’m not sure exactly what the range is, but it works well in my normal sized living room. Unlike the contact sensor, it will not ring whenever it detects motion. Detected motion is instead listed in a time log on the app. You can, however, set it up so that if motion is detected, it will set off the loud alarm, making it useful for times when you don’t expect anyone to be inside your home.The range extender can plug into an outlet. It should boost the signal of your base station, allowing it to connect with other components that are further away. I have not needed to use this because the natural range has been sufficient for my two story home. This would be useful for larger homes.All in all, this kit comes with enough sensors to create a simple security system and provides me with peace of mind. Set up was easy and does not require you to be particularly tech savvy.
I've always wanted an alarm system and this was a free installation with the tech support program. It's awesome! You can pay extra to have it monitored or pay a small amount to preserve video. I highly recommend the video (at a minimum) as you won't be able to see who was around unless you see the video live.The 24/7 monitoring is optional. If you don't get it you still have all the features of the system without someone automatically calling the police/fire if it goes off. The alarm will still go off and the intruder will have no idea if it's monitored or not. It's an added security feature that isn't very expensive.This is a great system. I live in a very safe neighborhood, but nonetheless, I sleep much better at night with this installed.

The kit includes a pile of stuff, including a Z-Wave extender (that's ultra not clear in the product description, this is not a general WiFi extender, it is used to extend the network Ring uses to work).I was able to add my Schlage smart locks fairly easily (except Ring thinks it knows better than you, it erases all the codes in your lock - a really bad thing for it to do). One lock is a Connect - can control everything through the app, locking / un locking and lock status. The other is an older key pad that sends the activate code to the lock and allows manual turning of the lock. I get more stupid announcements about coyotes and fox on the loose - Protect Your Children!!!!! There's no way to get rid of those announcements, or screen them.

The simplisafe system does provide the ability to create a more custom set of sensors in the initial purchase and get better pricing with the initial purchase, whereas Ring pretty much as set bundles, and then you have to pay normal pricing for any other items a la carte. However, the Ring system has a very nice retrofit kit that allows tying in existing wired sensors; that was a big part of why I decided to give Ring a try. It's overpriced for what it is, but I did get the discount for having a paid Ring subscription set up before buying it, which helped a bit. It was very easy to install and get working, and was a much better solution than adding a bunch of wireless sensors to doors and windows that already had wired sensors integrated in the frames. The reason I still say Simplisafe wins is due to the missing specialized security sensors that almost any other security system includes.4. Interoperability: Ring wins this one, hands-down. Their app is better and they have better compatibility with 3rd party vendors. Simplisafe is too closed.5. Usability: Tie. Simplisafe has a better keypad. It's antiquated in some ways with its throwback style display, but at least it has a display. The ring 2nd gen keypad has no indicators on it whatsoever. Additionally, the functionality, requiring the input of a PIN to change from any mode to any mode, is a bit silly. The Simplisafe system only requires a PIN to switch from an armed mode to a disarmed mode. I shouldn't need a PIN to switch from disarmed to an armed state. I also should be able to glance at the keypad, or at worst, press a button on it, to get feedback as to what mode the system is on. The base station is the only thing with an indicator, and I don't keep the base station in a visible location; I don't consider it a fashion statement in my home. Additionally, the base station is the only place where there is a speaker for letting me know the system is counting down. This is also frustrating, as I have had a couple of false alarms due to not realizing the system was counting down because I simply couldn't hear it. All that said, Simplisafe's app is not as feature-rich as the Ring app, so Ring maintains a tie in this category for that reason alone. I really wish Ring would make the keypad a little more usable, though.So, while Ring won in a head-to-head with Simplisafe from my perspective, it still has room to improve. It needs a more complete set of sensors akin to that offered by Simplisafe, and they still have a good bit of work to do on the camera software motion detection, as well as giving me the ability to set more specific customizations for recording behavior.

There is a guy out there, claiming "installing in 15 minutes" - nonsense. Most people will need a couple of hours (I needed over three) for the first time installation. Our house is almost 150 years old with many original features. As a result, all doors/windows are different. I was afraid that contact sensors might not work at all (and was really bummed out), but they DO work. The biggest help was Ring's official site, where they have a lot of photos of customers' installations. It really helped to figure out possible positioning.The rest was very straightforward. At one point had to call their customer service (my fault) and they were wonderful, friendly and helpful. So, if you feel stuck, do not hesitate to ask for their help.The app is well designed and very helpful, really liked it. We are still testing various things, but it all seems great. Like that even when the system is not armed, there is a chime every time a door/window is opened. It is not loud, but clearly audible and is great help if there pets or family members who might open a door without need. Good additional safety feature.The light on the base unit is quite bright, so I suggest you put it where it will not interfere with sleep. Or, even better, where you might want a nightlight (it has to be plugged in at all times).Really think trough where you want your sensors. After the protective film is removed, you may be able to move them once, while adhesive is not set, but I think not more. So figure it out beforehand.The only thing I do not like is the color, stark white. They look fine and are not awfully obtrusive, but I do wish they were offered in dark and light beige, to blend in better.I will attach several photos, maybe they will help someone with unusual doorways. ALL positions on the pictures attached do work (we tested).Great technology, like it a lot. Now we are thinking about adding more items (additional contact sensors, cameras for outdoors and so on). Really wonderful product!
