This product is great for our backyard. Our dog has cataracts and we were looking for a solution to provide light in the backyard when she is out. In addition, we sometimes don't hear here scratch to be let back in due to how far away the door is. With this product we set the motion detection to the door itself and are able to set the light to turn on when it detects motion and alert us through Alexa when she is at the door. My only complaint is that you can set multiple motion zones, but you can't set different alerts for them, i.e. turn on light if motion in location x is detected, and alert us if motion is location y is detected. If this was a feature it would be perfect for our needs.

Easier to install than removing the old fixture!
23 February 2021

Ring has thought this through very well. You need basic tools, but this product comes with all the special tools you need. I spent 15 minutes removing the old fixture (cutting/removing caulk while protecting fragile vinyl siding). Even 10 feet up, Ring provides an "S" hook to hand the fixture from their mounting plate while you wire it up...genius. I already had a Ring doorbell and the app, so when I powered it on, setup was a snap. It actually talked to me from above my garage and kept me informed of it's software update, finding the internet, and preparing for setup. Wish all tech installs were this well thought out.Fully adjustable triggering pattern by seeing what your camera sees. You can move 6? toggles to adjust the pattern on your smart phone. You can set up a routine, or timer, lots of options. I have not tried the panic siren yet - they even warn you that it is really loud and you should be considerate of your neighbors in the directions!Light are bright and easily aimed. Camera is easily aimed. It's all easy when you have a camera tied to the floods.Strongly recommend to anyone who desires a great way to watch their driveway or other areas remotely.I consider myself rather handy, but after reading the manual (great images), watching the install videos, and getting acquainted with the gear, even a novice could install in 30 minutes or less.

Great addition to my Ring Ecosystem
14 August 2020

I've had my eye on one of these for a while, and after I redid some painting on my home's exterior, I decided to replace the effectively useless patio light with the Ring Floodlight cam. Not only does it provide better lighting of the patio area, I was able to complete camera coverage around my home. The choice to purchase this was largely because I am already heavily invested in the Ring ecosystem. Between the Doorbell, and three spotlight cams I have, this was a no-brainer. For $10 a month I get cloud video storage, extended warranty on all devices, theft protection, and full service monitoring on my alarm. It's the absolute best deal in the industry and especially if you're paying for alarm monitoring on another system, you'll probably save the cost of switching ... MoreI've had my eye on one of these for a while, and after I redid some painting on my home's exterior, I decided to replace the effectively useless patio light with the Ring Floodlight cam. Between the Doorbell, and three spotlight cams I have, this was a no-brainer. For $10 a month I get cloud video storage, extended warranty on all devices, theft protection, and full service monitoring on my alarm. It's the absolute best deal in the industry and especially if you're paying for alarm monitoring on another system, you'll probably save the cost of switching alarm systems within a year. The good:This camera provides the same quality video that I get out of my other spotlight cams. Essentially, it's the same thing - only mounted in the floodlight housing.Mounting instructions are on point. They even give you this neat hook thing to support the camera while you do your wiring. Ring is top notch when it comes to making mounting as easy as possible.Flood Lights: Nice and bright and can illuminate a much larger area than I would have expected.Overall quality: The overall quality of the device seems good. Less plastic than I would have imagined. The not-so-good:The most annoying feature of this camera is the motion detection at night. We have this pointing at our patio, and if we are sitting out on the patio, the camera is constantly turning the floodlights on and off. There's no setting in the app that I can find that simply says "Ignore all motion and don't turn on the lights for the next two hours or so.". Fortunately, I have this hooked to the circuit that the old patio light was on, so I can simply flip the switch and it's off. I do have to remember to turn it on when I go back inside for the night. My solution for this is to replace the patio light switch with a Kasa switch that I can control remotely, and have turn back on at a certain time every night to ensure we have coverage.Camera quality. The video quality that comes out of the Ring is pretty lackluster. I mean, you'll see somebody doing something on your property, but unless they're up close and personal with the camera, it's highly likely you won't have enough detail to get an accurate facial description or capture a license plate though.Mounting - This has to be mounted on a j-box. My old patio light was simply mounted to the exterior wood. I had to go get a weather proof junction box, fasten that to the trim, and then get the camera mounted to that. Not a huge concern, but for those who are less handy it may be a deal breaker - or at least cost them a visit from their electrician.Overall though, I rate this fairly high because the product works as advertised and the Ring ecosystem is so strong as well as provides a great value.Time will tell how long this lasts, but I suspect within a year or so we're going to start seeing Ring 4K stuff which will solve some of the issues with resolution and getting better detail from faces / license plates.

Great addition to your Ring system and bright!

The Ring cams are the only devices I have experience with but so far I'm pleased with them. I've had the Ring Door Bell and Ring Floodlight Cam for over two years. I bought another Floodlight Cam for my back yard. I was torn between the regular Ring Outdoor Cam and this one, but based on some youtube video reviews, The night time video came out better with this cam because it has better lighting. My install required adding an electrical junction box to support the cam, it feels heavy but with the junction box secured, I felt confident it would stay in place. I made sure to angle the lights to cover my backyard wall, but not to overshoot to blind the neighbor (please consider your neighbors went installing). If you feel the Ring app is slow when connecting to the ... MoreThe Ring cams are the only devices I have experience with but so far I'm pleased with them. My internet used to be 20Mbps, but when I upgraded mine to over 200Mbps, it helped the connection. The video load time isn't instant but still much better than before. Please keep in mind you need an active internet connection to view the camera live (and for it to record video of course), even if it's on the same network, You can view the live and old videos through the Ring App or their website.I did notice that this new camera didn't have some features (like some privacy features like disabling the mic) that my older Floodlight cam had out of the box, but the new one eventually received the missing features. Ring tends to roll out device updates in stages even if it's for the same model. In comparison to my older Floodlight cam, I don't see any quality differences (maybe there are some). Video is the same, lighting is the same, loading is the same, etc.Keep in mind, if you have the camera set to People only mode, it'll still pick up cats and dogs. I believe it's not supposed to but I don't mind.

Highly Recommend Ring

Best security cam for our needs. Not only can we see who is coming and going, but we can hear everything they say. One word of caution - you never know which neighors also have Ring devices so when you're out for a neighborhood stroll, DON'T talk unkindly about your neighbors because they can hear you through their Ring devices! We like that we can see when packages are delivered, and if the delivery person attempts to leave the package on the open front steps (beside the sign that reads ALL DELIVERIES TO INSIDE SIDE DOOR) we can gently redirect them to the side door with the voice activation option. We can control the areas of our yard that we want to monitor. Bought two of these for our daughter. Along with a couple indoor cams. Hooked everything up and was able the connect all to the Ring app. The last flood light would not hook to internet. And first son in law and myself figured it was in a bad location for picking up the internet. So we moved it to the back porch where we had already installed the other flood,. Knowing that internet was good there and nothing that camera was defective. Luckily we found a store near us where they had one in stock and we purchased and it it worked fantastic. Bundled up the defunct flood and easily hot a refund. We have run ring systems for several years and I would have given a 5 star review if it had not been for the defunct unit and the wasted time moving, picking up a new one, and ... MoreBought two of these for our daughter. Ring Good | Stability Not So Bad

You won't go wrong with the purchase of this camera for outdoor security monitoring. I have had a few of my Ring products to go offline and fail to provide me with live and/or recorded footage, which defeats the purpose of having the product. If it fails even once out of 100,00 times, its the time you really needed it that counts the most. That said, I would not trust anyone who hasn't been in the business longer than Ring with similar solutions. Short story: In 2020, you may never have 100% reliability on video signaling and event recording. Things happen... And, where there are frequencies, there are ways... Be reasonable in your expectations and you will be pleased with the results, but don't be foolish in assuming that the camera alone will solve all your little problems. Get a really big beautiful friendly d-o-g with no bark and all protection. Also helps if your neighbors and friends are members of law enforcement who care about everyone (everyone) in the community. Plus, the motion activated light (if you configure it appropriately) is "spot on" for movement ready detection.

Very good. After all the app updates, it works great. First reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because you may see vehicles, people, animals, etc in the continuous image intervals, but it doesn't record a clip sometimes. The other reason is because, although Ring says it can't be mounted on a horizontal surface, it can, but they need to make it easily installable both ways....huge draw back and loss of profit margin for them.
