I own several ring devices. This is our first plug-in spotlight cam though. That being said lets get to the good. It’s easy to connect. Installation was fairly easy and I had just enough cable to plug it in. If the power cable were 2 inches shorter it would have been a real issue. The camera’s picture quality is okay but could definitely be better. Now for the BAD! The camera mount that attaches to your house is fine. What’s not fine is the mount/camera ball clamp that attaches to that. It’s so cheaply made and the one screw that locks it to the mount feels like it does absolutely nothing. If someone pulled on the camera it would break right off. It’s absolute garbage to sum it up. They could have made it more solid or even made it and the base mount out of metal. ... MoreI own several ring devices. This is our first plug-in spotlight cam though. They could have made it more solid or even made it and the base mount out of metal. Ring could have allowed for it to lock into both threaded inserts on the base as well instead of only the one. The ball-mount clamp is garbage and so are the screws that tighten the ball. No matter how much you tighten it, it just never seems tight enough. Then you get to a point where the tiny screw on the clamp starts to fall apart because they’re just junk. The USB-C cable that powers this unit is such a stupid design. I can only image it’s 100% the reason for the failures i read about. Water takes the path of least resistance and I can only think that the water gets into the usb-c slot and shorts out the board in some scenarios. Every time I adjusted the cable it pops right out. I’m going to silicone it in place today to try and combat that. I picked up a ring battery today to use as a backup power supply. It doesn’t look like there’s any way to enable that feature. I also absolutely hate that I can’t set a light zone like I can on my wired floodlight cam. I’m puzzled at why this feature was overlooked in this “new” plus version. I probably should have picked up another wired floodlight cam but thought it would look silly on the front of the house. All of that being said ring has clearly missed the mark once again and why is it my dashcams are 4k HDR but ring’s still not there yet. It makes me question their design/tech teams. Sounds like they should start listening to the customers.

This ring spotlight Cam pro is an excellent product and great to add to anyone's home safety. It is easy to install with a few steps with the ring app. It is simple to connect to your internet with a couple steps. Easy to understand tutorial when beginning. It is simple enough for not so savvy tech users. The ring itself it is easy to install on any wall outside or hanging area. It is great to place under a covering which is what i planned on doing so snow doesn't sit on it. Long outlet cording which I was unsure about because of being outdoors but it is heavy duty. The spotlight itself is great and clear as day picturing. It has a great feature where you can turn the spotlight on with a touch of a button. BUYER BE WARE!!! Don't buy the Ring Spotlight Cam if you expect two batteries and a Chime Pro to extend the life of the batteries before needing to recharge them. I bought 2 Ring Spotlight Cams on the same date. I was very excited about them because I have other Ring security cams that I love. BUT, when it comes to the Ring Spotlight Cam Wire free cam: with 2 batteries in each one and working WITH my Chime Pro, they only provided me 4 to 5 days of battery life before I had to recharge the batteries. I am so disappointed in my purchases of the Ring Spotlight Cam wire-free. I have to recharge each of my Spotlights every 4 to 5 days. I'm told that if I had the solar panel for them, I wouldn't have to recharge my batteries as much. That is an additional $100 with taxes. ... MoreBUYER BE WARE!!! Easier than having a wired system and they have options for different power sources, color and ease of setup. I had the ring doorbell so I was familiar with the app and the many different settings you can use, which made the setup for each camera easy as pie. Unlike most systems I have used this was so easy and affordable for monthly services. You definitely get what you pay for these as far as performance is concerned as long as you have a reliable internet source you should not have any issues with it unless there is a power outage than remote access is stalled until it gets restored. Other than that it doesn’t stop the camera from recording motion or detection of a person where they should or should not be and stores it in the cloud. Other than that it doesn’t stop the camera from recording motion or detection of a person where they should or should not be and stores it in the cloud. Only issue I think they should come up with is if a natural disaster happens where internet is out for extended period of time to have some way of using GMRS service much like a cell phone does to access important videos. If you plan on having multiple cameras definitely buy extra batteries. Video quality is decent but could be a little better along with the sound and mic pick up. I have had mine for now over two years and never had any real major issues with it. I now have 8 cameras in total and over the time since my first camera they continue to add more features and updates that have never affected the performance of these in a negative way. Also customer service is outstanding whenever there is an issue.
After listening to my friends experiences and the sales person at Best Buy we went with Ring. We could not be happier with the Ring camera For the following reasons: 1) It is easy to assemble and mount on the door frame. 2) Charging the outdoor battery is extremely easy and after a quick charge it will last 3 to 4 months before recharging. 3) The clarity of the camera is literally off the charts! We can’t believe how clear it is even with the night vision on with little to no assistance. Truly amazing. 4) when speaking on your cell phone the speaker on the camera is extremely clear both receiving and sending. 5) The two lights on both ends of the camera lens are very bright when activated by movement. No issues at all. 6) When we are away from home if somebody is at ... MoreAfter listening to my friends experiences and the sales person at Best Buy we went with Ring. No, I do not work for Ring. My wife and I are just too very satisfied customers if we could ready to six star we would.
I own a 5 Ring Stickup camera devices plus the hard wired doorbell which work great! However this wireless Spotlight Cam is not worth it for my use and I will be returning it. My biggest gripe is that the lights do not stay on for more than 30 seconds at a time via the motion sensor. It does not state in the description or on the box regarding the limited light time (see pics). I purchased this camera so I can take my dog out at night and clean up after her but the lights don’t stay on long enough for my intended purpose. I still have to use a flashlight or fumble with the ring app to turn on the light (and it only stays for 20-30 seconds). The Spotlight Cam does not allow you adjust the light setting longer than 30 seconds. We have both the ring door bell for our front door and now this spotlight cam for our backyard. We love being able to check in when we’re at work or away from home. Our backyard is open and we’ve had problems with people coming into our yard. Thankfully we had a place to put our camera already as our houses previous owner had a different camera up. Instillation and set up was a breeze. We love that is has a light that pops on when it detects motion and that we can talk through it and set off an alarm. It adds a level of safety that we really appreciate. The camera sees a very wide area so our entire yard can be seen (though at night we can’t see the back half since we have an acre, which is fine with us). This Ring spotlight cam is everything you would expect from a Ring product: great quality, reliability, excellent and easy system integration, and ease of installation. I really wanted this spotlight cam to be the perfect solution to my side yard. However, while I’m some home setups or configurations the plug-in design is perfect, I found it to be a bit short sighted. If an unwanted visitor entered my yard, wouldn’t they just unplug the camera and proceed with their intentions? I suppose I could hire an electrician to install an outlet 8 feet up the wall but seems a bit excessive. That being said, for some setups, this design may be the perfect solution especially because the cord that runs from the unit to the plug is ready for paint. I had wires run to the area of my house specifically for the video camera. The install wasn’t too bad, but found the basic ring instructions weren’t as easy for this as the doorbell. Would recommend a quick YouTube video if it’s your first time. Overall got it installed in about an hour. Pros: - Does a great job covering a lot of area. I actually had to lower the detection area because it could cover so much. Also love the spotlight that comes on at night when motion is detected. - Multiple ways to install the camera. I have it under the eave of my house which is at an angle, and was worried about mounting it to work properly. Ring gives you 3 different brackets and he no problem making it sit how I needed. Cons: - Has just OKAY quality. It’s usually pretty clear, ... MoreI had wires run to the area of my house specifically for the video camera. Cons: - Has just OKAY quality. It’s usually pretty clear, but can get grainy when zooming in. I have the Ring Doorbell Pro 2 and this is definitely lacking compared to it. - I struggled getting the security screw to actually hold it in place. Also ended up needing to grab some bigger screws to secure it into the house siding, as the screws Ring provided were too small. These could be issues specially to me though, so not dinging Ring on that as much as just making it aware. - Feel like it’s a little pricey, but if you’re wanting to hardware in without cables or deal with batteries, then I think this is the best route currently.
This seems like a great product and could have been worth the $200 I spent on it. But after installing and using it, I found out that at the end of trial period that I needed to pay a monthly fee to continue to see the videos. I was a wee bit shocked to see that they were hitting me up for a monthly subscription. I mean, seriously, if they want to make it subscription based then they should sell it at a reasonably lower price because now I feel like it’s just a scam. My Ring can take videos and I can’t even get them to save onto my phone (not even on the server); in fact they blocked the video portion of the device. Bad taste in the product and the company because of this.
