RME Digiface USB Audio Interface

The Digiface USB is an extremely compact & portable digital audio interface with 4 optical ADAT / SPDIF I/Os, and an analog high-quality line/phones output via 6.3 mm TRS jack. Continuing the legacy of RME‘s famous HDSP Digiface, a triple ADAT I/O interface with phones and PCI interface, Digiface USB simplifies connection with USB 2, does not need an external power supply, and even adds another optical I/O, resulting in 32 channels input and output each when using ADAT optical. The analog output hosts channels 33/34, and can be used freely thanks to TotalMix FX, RME‘s routing and monitoring solution that knows nearly no limits in routing and mixing (the Digiface USB does not include FX). Each single optical port can use either ADAT (up to 8 channels) or SPDIF (stereo). While the inputs adapt automatically to the received signal format, the outputs can be individually switched between ADAT and SPDIF operation. Supported are SMUX and SMUX4. Therefore at 192 kHz either 8 channels via 4 x SPDIF or ADAT are possible on both inputs and outputs. Its small size, weight and bus-powered operation make the Digiface USB extremely versatile and useful. It could even serve as simple headphone amp for mobile use.

The RME Digiface boasts an easy setup. That is simply untrue! I guess RME has been hanging with good ol' 45 and making their facts up as they go. The website is just as clunky with a Windows 95 vibe. The software it comes with called TotalMix wouldn't launch. I sent RME an email and I hope they can get it up and running because in concept its totally neat.

The converters on both units are pristine.I have a very high powered workstation with 64gb memory, and input latency at 96khz/128 sample buffer is 1.51ms, with output latency at 2.11ms. I am happy as a clam!

It just works perfectly. Using it to transfer Alesis HD24 tracks back and forth between computer and unit. Also works well with preamps that utilize the ADAT 8 channel standard. 32 inputs and 34 outputs (counting the two outputs for the headphone). I can even use one of the ADAT optical channels for SP/DIF with my CD burner. It's a perfect solution for my needs and so small that it just can sit anywhere. Driver was easy to install and worked immediately.

The perfect addition to a home studio which uses an ADAT recorder or mixing desk with ADAT connections.

Best price for a great product

RME gear - there’s no beating it in my experience, it comes with total mix which is an ace bit of software for routing, totally flexible. DV had the best price and this little box gives me future proofing, gives so much flexibility as I can always change my AD/DA’s later on.

Digiface USB

Compact, robust and extremely useful in extending the lifetime of an older mixer that uses ADAT interfaces as it enables me to enhance a laptop bought for video editing to handle digital audio supported by stable and good quality ASIO capability and the availability of TotalMix FX which I have on my main audio system means I can retain standardised configuration / interfaces.

Excellent Compact Optical to USB interface
4 March 2017

I am delighted with this new ADAT to USB interface from RME. This unit is very new and many vendors were not even carrying it yet. Thanks to B&H for ordering it for me! I received delivery of this special order in less than 2 weeks. Prior to this piece of hardware becoming available it was difficult to find a device or interface with 4 ADAT inputs. Now I can bring 16 channels of audio at 24bit / 96khz into my Audio workstation or laptop. Note, while I like recording at 96 kHz, using a sample rate of 48khz will allow throughput of 32 channels of audio and increasing sample rate to 192khz will limit throughput to 8 channels. To control input from the Digiface USB simultaneously while using the Babyface Pro requires separate TotalFX software control windows for each device (the manual explains this in more detail). I am currently bringing in 8 channels from an Audient ASP880 preamp and will add another 8 channel preamp soon. One thing that definitely stands out, is how small and compact this device is...maybe less than a quarter of the size of the Babyface Pro. So it will not take up a lot of space on your desk or in your kit. Same excellent quality and function that I have enjoyed from RME in the past.

Rock solid RME quality
16 March 2022

I've been using RME interfaces for both studio production and live performance for roughly 15 years. They are not the cheapest, but they are completely rock solid and reliable. Highly recommended.

Solid Drivers, Top Quality Unit. Cute.

Very stable, clocking etc. Love being able to use ADAT or SPDIF outs. Multiclient for apps, great problem solver, couldn't ask for more especially at this price. Being able to chain this unit with other digifaces makes this a solid heart of any system, any size.

happy met digiface usb
4 July 2020

After modifying some ajustments and reading manuals, the digiface does more then I ever expected. I am very happy with the thing and find back my pleasure of working in my home studio. Because it gives me a lot more possibilities then I ever had.
