A HUGE Letdown

I would expect atleast flat, but there is hardly any bass as compared to other pro Sony series, and it just feels very washed out and almost bland.Disclaimer: I am tone deaf and hearing loss to 65% which could play a major part in what I do and don't hear. But that still being said, the Sony Pro headphones, even though they aren't very comfortable, I still hear a lot better and more.

Awesome headphones, very comfortable!

I ordered these as soon as they were available after watching a couple reviews on YouTube because I have a couple Rode products and love their quality. These may be the first headphones that Rode has made (I think) but they are really well executed. I've been using a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pros for editing audio for videos and a podcast. While the audio from them is wonderful, they are just not super comfortable to wear for long periods and the build materials seem kind of cheap by comparison (they are mostly plastic with pleather ear cups). These new Rode headphones are WAY more comfortable vs. the Beyers. The ear cups are shaped more like your ear and the fabric around the pads is very soft. Overall I'd say they really look & feel like good value for the price. Now, as far as the sound goes, I struggle to hear a significant difference vs. the DT770. I think the DT770s may be slightly clearer sound, maybe a flatter response. But these do not blow out the bottom end or sound un-natural at all. They definitely provide the clear sound that you need for edits & mastering, maybe unless you are looking for absolutely the cleanest/clearest headphones on the market, which if you are, you're not looking at $150 headphones. I think they represent a great natural sound that works well for my purposes. Overall I have no regrets and plan to use these full-time for my editing. Another great product from Rode!

Comfortable, great design, outstanding sound.

Excellent purchase! I have no regrets and am using these daily. The design is superb - nice touches like L/R idents within the earphone cups, in braille on the sides, and also there is a red "cable entry" flash on the right-hand headphone. I like that you can plug the cable into either earpiece, and it stays locked. The cushion is physically comfortable on the earpieces, and the headband is OK although I might need to play with this. I'm getting used to that - I'm aware of it on my head. However, once you find a position they can be locked, which in practice is good and bad: very quick to "deploy" them as you don't need to adjust them each time, bad in that they don't fold any smaller unless you unlock the headband, and even then they they don't go that much ... MoreExcellent purchase! Bu they have a nice bag to keep them in.The cushioning is also great at keeping your ears cool which means you can wear them for an extended session and they never get hot / sweaty. Finally, and maybe the most important bit: they sound really nice. The isolation is very good (not perfect, but good enough for example to mic up a loudish acoustic instrument, hear what's coming back into the headphones without having to turn them up in volume to overcome the bleed from the acoustic instrument. They are excellent, and I do a lot of acoustic music recording.I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.

Excellent build quality and sound
21 April 2022

I had seen a couple of headphone reviews about this new model from Rode, each one raving over the build quality and sound. The reviews were spot on and the quality of this product is stellar. Nothing, and I mean nothing, about these headphones feels cheap. When a product is thoughtfully designed, you are immediately aware. The ear cup foam and outer coverings feel so high end, not to mention comfortable. I've never had a closed back headphone isolate so well before. The shape of the earcups seals so well and blocks out almost all ambient sounds. This will come in extremely handy during my live recording sessions.I love the locking feature of the headband, which assures every time I put the phones on my head, the cups are in just the right place. Mids and high frequencies are natural and detailed. These will be excellent recording/mixing headphones but I also enjoy them for just pure enjoyment sessions. When you receive a piece of gear and in the initial 5 minutes of using it your first thought is to buy another as a spare...well, I don't think you can get higher praise than that. These headphones feel and sound like they should be twice their price, at least. In fact, I would say at twice the price I would still buy them.Well done Rode!!!

Excellent! (With minor hiccups).

Love Rode gear! They've always given me excellent build quality and performance. These professional reference monitors have a sound signature that is supposed to be very flat and neutral for professionals. To my non-audiophile trained ears, they are pleasantly crisp, warm, and loud enough. The low impedance means they can be driven by any headphone jack, even iPhones, and the cables are also of a high quality here, each includes an adapter and extra accessories. I got them with the intention of HIGH QUALITY sound for gaming and watching media at home way more than actually recording audio; and that's a compliment!Where they hiccup though is the weight. Coming from Bose QC 45's, they're much heavier, despite using lots of nice plastic. Maybe that's what makes high end headphones sound so special. This might be a little annoying for use in the field, but your mileage may vary. The other issues are that mine came missing the gold dot logo on the sides. I'm very surprised because the build quality and QA is usually so top notch. I guess I'll do a quick exchange?Other than that, The extra ergonomic design isolates enough and is extremely comfortable despite the weight; all without too much clamping force. BUT, the height is impossible to adjust on your head for some reason, at least they lock! All in all, I'm super excited to have COMFORTABLE, AFFORDABLE, and truly PROFESSIONAL headphones FINALLY from Rode!

Fantastic Across the Board!

When I saw this new product from Rode on the YouTube channels I subscribed to, I found it pretty astounding that the company decided to take a venture into the world of headphones, given that there were so many options out there. Well, there's no question that Rode did its homework for YEARS on this one. It seems that they took many of the weaknesses/deficiencies of other recognized markets, made the proper fixes for their new headset, and now the rest is history. To be short, I am thrilled to own a pair the the NTH-100s! In using them so far, I was concerned after one long session that the comfort level wasn't as good as advertised, as I felt some ear fatigue and a headache coming on. In using them so far, I was concerned after one long session that the comfort level wasn't as good as advertised, as I felt some ear fatigue and a headache coming on. No problem there since, but I still keep an eye out for this. As far as the sound goes, yes, it's flat. But it's clearly designed that way to help the user pick up sound better. I use these for creating and editing podcasts, so I can't speak about the sound quality like a music audiophile in regard their use for music. But for podcasting purposes, the NTH-100 is outstanding. They are large, and do NOT try to fold them! The carrying case it a tad disappointing too since it's just a bag, not a case. Just be careful how you travel with them. They are very well-built, but electronics like these are still always fragile. I could lower the NTH-100 to four stars, but I think what's good about it definitely outweighs the other concerns noted here. Give them a try! In the end, your best and favorite set of headphones are going to the be one that you find works best for YOU! As for ME, at this time, and for the next few years, the Rode NTH-100 is the headset for me!

Our findings suggest that unless extreme lengths are taken to ensure cohesive & even delivery of the signal.Inverted polarity and/or incoherent phase will always, ALWAYS be an issue... Philips Fidelio X2HR are an example of this.Post mod findings cont'd: (3-4 of 5 star acoustic value)The phase cohesion now being put behind us, I shall speak as to my findings, that I have personally observed. They have a somewhat set aback stage presentation with decent enough detailing given the price point. Not the best tonality but honestly not the worst.I have found some iems that would likely serve a significantly better purpose for mixing, given their tonal accuracy. But should you not be someone that tolerates iems or you just outright prefer over ears? Well that's where these come in.These will get you started in the mixing world, their design, again post fix, should allow for a quite good sound all things being fair for the price range.Although the weird part is even though they have slots for dual entry they're intrinsically single ended headphones. Good jerb Rode... ya screwed the pooch and were just stupid, rather than malicious or lazy! But it gets a bit better, they at least realized the change of one being plugged in versus the other would cause a pressure differential. So they included an easy to lose and wholly mandatory tuning cap for the non used side.DON'T, LOSE, IT!..IT ISN'T FOR DUST PREVENTION IT'S PART OF THE TUNING!!!!!!The locking connection has a rubber housing on the inside that helps to partially seal the in use side.Right, back to topic...I digress, the apparent tuning is that of a perceived neutral-esque quality. Somewhat well reaching in both directions but ultimately limited by their driver selection and tuning selection. Well, driver tuning selection, there is absolutely zero internal tuning on the insides of the cups.Realistically you're paying less for the sound and far, far more for the build... Speaking of,The build all in all is quite gracious for the price.Honestly some of the most well build headphones I own, given I have STAX, Ether CX, ATH-R70X, HFMxDrop Edition XX, Audeze LCD2 Classic (open), and so on... these are some of the "better" sounding and SOMETIMES significantly more well built headphones out there. And for under 200usd? That's quite hard to argue...Farsil is currently attempting to contact Rode to ascertain a statement and/or issue corrective measures to their headphones. He has a discord server set up in order to allow contact with him. Which can be located through his YT channel.I was told to throw that mention out there, due to the issues with these heapdhones and how complicated it's been to get into Rode proper. (AUS company)

Great headphones - way better than my Sony's
21 April 2022

No regrets for buying these headphones, only praise. I didn't realize how much high-end my Sony MDR-7506's were adding until listening to the NTH-100's. With the Sony's, as the volume is turned way up, the high-end becomes the overbearing part of the spectrum forcing me to turn them down. But with the Rode's no part of the spectrum stands out as overbearing, it just all gets loud together. The build feels so solid, nothing flimsy or cheap. I love the locking mechanism where I never have to adjust them when I first put them on. You just put them on - great feature. The foam and material are comfortable even for long periods of time, just as they advertise.Yeah, very happy. My wife wasn't thrilled with the price, but I think you get more than you pay for. The quality of the audio I mix and the comfort are are worth it.

It's OK

I realize YouTube videos can be misleading. All of the reviews say that these headphones are the best since sliced bread. However, I do not necessarily agree. I make film and music. These headphones are very decent for film, but for music you miss a lot of important sounds that you need to focus on when editing or creating music. It annoys me that I have to keep switching headphones depending on the project I am working on at the moment. The profile is extremely flat, The gel pads on the headphones do not provide the arctic blast you may think they will, they do not fool so they're not so easily transportable, and the ambidextrous headphone port that they're talking about is not a big deal since I just leave the line plugged into one side and don't ever change ... MoreI realize YouTube videos can be misleading. I'm not so sure. I do not feel like I wasted money but there are more features that are to be desired in this particular product.I give 3 stars because it's well-built and you can tell it is a quality product but I cannot give a full 5 stars because it is not very versatile.

No question - best in class at 150 USD

It irks me when individuals refer to comments, measurements etc from so-called experts whose work cannot be traced nor verified, in an effort to bag a product for whatever reason. FYI, Farsil the Wizard has not posted on You tube for 2 years nor was I able to find the discord server. As far as my experience with this headphone is concerned, it delivers on all counts especially when one considers what the retail price is. It is by far the most comfortable headphone I own, and it has a build quality that put to shame many headphones costing up to 8 to 10 times as much. The Rode has innovative features - locking mechanism, L or R connectivity, memory foam ear pads with cooling gel to stop heat build up, and metal construction where it is most need - all the stress ... MoreIt irks me when individuals refer to comments, measurements etc from so-called experts whose work cannot be traced nor verified, in an effort to bag a product for whatever reason. There have been some reports of some irregularities with the sound in some units, but I did not have that experience.Sound wise, the Rode is not V shaped - it does not exhibit a boosted bass and treble like much of the competition. IMHO, it is superior to the ATH-M50X, DT770 Pro, AKG K271 Mk2, AKG K361, Sennheiser HD280 and 380, Shure SRH840, Sivga SV021 and the Neumann NDH20 - this is my observation, other s may differ. Is it perfect ? Of course not, but then nobody expects perfection for 150 bucks, or do they. Seems like there are those who do, but then they compare the Rode to things like Stax, Audeze LCD2 Classics, Ether CX etc, etc, etc. All of which cost many times more than the Rode, and BTW all of which also fall well short of the Rode's build quality.Overall, this is a great headphone and I am amazed that Rode has been able to pack so much tech, innovation, superb build quality and great sound into a headphone and still keep the price under 200 bucks.Well done Rode. Keep up the great work. Ignore the baggers, ther's always biund tio be a few of them.
