I bought this lens in January of 2022, and it stayed on my A74 until December of 2022. It was a great lens! Coming from the Canon RP paired with the Samyang 85 1.4, this lens with the A74 auto focus was spectacular! A night and day difference!My favorite quality I loved about this lens is the lens flare. There is something magical about it. But, shooting into the sun can cause a green ghost flare. This lens will still be in my kit for black & white photography and for my 2nd camera body.

The size and weight of this lens couldn't be better. The lens is reasonably sharp in the center and mid zone, but does get soft in the corners at the wide open apertures. But that's okay for portraits. Stopped down, to F/5.6 or 8, the image is quite sharp, but all focal lengths do exhibit some color fringing. Samyang has good optical formulas, but less stellar quality control. This is my second copy, the first stopped working on the first day I was using it. So far, the second copy seems to be fairly well centered and functional. Bought this used, 10 Good as new, on B&H for a great price.Got it and sure enough like new, retail box included, etc. Tested it out immediately and quickly determined it to be a keeper. Surprisingy fast AF and Quiet! Very sharp wide open, particulary in the center, with the edges being a bit soft as expected. Stopped down to f4, 5.6, and gets noticeably better on the edges and very sharp in the middle still. Really nice and light too. Custom switch is nice to adjust aperture or switch to manual focus. Anyway, at about a third the cost of Sony's FE 35mm f1.8, I highly recommend this Samsung AF lens. Come on Sony, you can do better pricing on a standard F1.8 lens. Do it!

Super sharp, beautiful bokeh, nice punchy contrast, accurate color rendition, fast and accurate af, quiet motor, imperceptible distortion, and the included hood is great. The build quality feels just a little lightweight and could possibly be a little beefier but that might also add unnecessary weight, and I really like the form factor as-is. Image quality and character is comparable to the excellent Rokinon f1.4 which is a better fit if you only shoot manual focus and/or use of a full rig with follow focus and matte box etc, but is an absolute beast and requires support. This f1.8, by comparison, balances perfectly on my a6400, and pairs great with a dji ronin gimbal and compact cinema rig. Love it!

I was adapting a Canon 35mm F1.4L onto my Sony A7R IV, and this lens is sharper than that combination, plus way smaller and lighter. Love it. I've been shooting it mostly at F2 and found I needed to use a smaller focusing point for accurate focus. Eye Focus is accurate. I didn't bother buying a UV or Protective Filter for the front, I just figured I'd buy a whole new lens at this price point if something happens. I did however, buy a polarizing filter and ND filter. I also bought the Lens Station for updating firmware and doing fine adjustments, but this lens copy didn't need any.
In late December last year I received the new Sony a7IV with 28-70 kit lens, and headed off with the family on vacation. On returning home, I discovered my uploaded vacation photos lacked the sharpness in the corners and along the edges that I expected. I ordered this lens, and B&H got it to me in two days. The photos I captured with this lens were surprisingly sharp from corner to corner SOC. The a7IV works great with this lens, focusses fast and accurately, and supports camera features like Clear Image Zoom, and APS-c zoom. The f/1.8 aperture supplies pleasing bokeh even up to f/5.6 and perhaps higher. The lens is so sharp that even the zoomed images look sharp.
I wanted a compact lens that would be easier to handle than the Sigma Art series lenses I'm used to. I was skeptical that a lens at this price point could be a worthy addition to my collection, but it's definitely pulling its weight. It seems the reviews I watched on YouTube weren't lying. I love shooting with this little guy and I'm happy with the results. Excellent value!
I don't normally like small light lenses however when one factors in budget some things just have to be. Some strong cons. The hood is ridiculously loose. I wonder how long it will be before I lose it. I guess Samyang likes to sell replacements. Seriously, I can't figure out how they couldn't make it fit more snugly. I wanted to give it 3 stars for that alone. The lens is extremely sharp though and isn't that what it's really all about? I snapped a few shots at f/2.0 and everything looks great. If it's great at f/2 it will be fantastic at anything above that. Great lens and nice bang for the buck. A super sharp, fast lens that won't break the budget.
