This synth is jam packed with some great sounds. It has all the features you need for both the studio and the stage. The newest version of the Fantom proves that a workstation is still relevant and useful, even today. Sampling is a big bonus.

I own a MODX, and needed a second keyboard for my covers band. Until now ive been using a controller and synths and Hammond from my iPad. It was just getting a bit fiddly. Ive always loved Roland stuff, but haven't owned any of their products for a couple of decades. I was toying with the idea of one of the Boutiques, but prefer a full sized hardware Synth and happened to see the Fantom O6. As i already use a Juno synth on my iPad the Fantom seemed perfect.its……Ok. I love the overall design and layout, and the look is great. I accept the difference between this and the full fat version, and this suits me perfectly, as well as price point. I must admit it was a spur of the moment decision, and i didnt bother looking at anything else.Or rather, it probably will. Ive ... MoreI own a MODX, and needed a second keyboard for my covers band. I came close when i installed the JP8 and Juno expansions, but they each have only one or two sounds i think id use with the band. I had a JP8 about 30 years ago and have a soft spot for it, but it seems to be very limited for my needs. Not once have i thought ‘this sounds amazing’ Now, i still do that with my MODX, 2 years after getting it.I think the real difference to my ears is the MODX fills a lot more sonic space. The solo brass on the Fantom sounds like a Kazoo in comparison. Very flat and thin. Pianos are flat and, any well any real life instruments sound flat and lifeless in the Fantom.I do prefer its overall work flow, and find it has a few things i really wish the MODX had, so it’s not all bad.Its a keeper for sure, but its taking me a long time to start raving about it. Even the on-line videos ive watched give me the same impression. What it does do really well is sound like an 80/90’s Roland synth. Its got all the classic sounds in there, they just don’t jump out at you.As it’s a second synth, and i really have no need for it to sound like the MODX, im sure it will earn its keep. Certainly the Organs are much better sounding, and the Sub out option is very cool, so it has advantages on the hardware side.Bottom line, its great but not the best if you need realistic sounds, or to create large sound scapes.

When I first saw this keyboard I got excited and new I wanted one. I had no idea how complicated this keyboard was to use. The advertisements said hoe easy it is it use and program. The documentation is useless except for diagramingthe different aspects of the keyboard. The YouTube experts and instructions are a nightmare. They go through their demonstrations like a fast flying jet. I tried to create step by step list if procedures for each part os this keyboard and after I completed three. I watched Ed D YouTube on recording a song. It was crazy complicated with at least 25 steps to accomplish. I decided to send it back.I think Roland could have done a much better job with there engineering instructions and documentation. I?m Sure not everyone who wants to ... MoreWhen I first saw this keyboard I got excited and new I wanted one. I had no idea how complicated this keyboard was to use. The Roland Fantom 06 is a fantastic keyboard workstation, it's features are numerous and have depth. I can see me spending many hours learning and using it.
This is my 1st Roland keyboard, ever. I've been in(and still am with a new Nautilus) the Korg ecosystem since the M1 launch 35 yrs ago. So getting used to the top panel has been interesting, but it's all laid out pretty well and much easier than I'd expected. I got this for the quick sampling and the sampling pads, and I definitely made the right decision. This Fantom mates great with the Nautilus. The only 2 areas it's not top notch in, are it's key bed, and the available internal storage. But at this price, those shouldn't be expectations. You can't stream/read directly from a flash drive, so you're stuck with roughly 500mb. You get to download thousands of Free tones etc, from Roland Cloud, so you'll fill it up in 1 sitting. But, I'm more than pleased with the ... MoreThis is my 1st Roland keyboard, ever. I've been in(and still am with a new Nautilus) the Korg ecosystem since the M1 launch 35 yrs ago. But, I'm more than pleased with the quality of the free packs available, Free is good! The key bed is more than adequate, unless you're trying to play piano with nuance & subtlety. This is definitely geared towards synth play, and at that, it excels. The sheer amount of sounds(tones) is incredible. There must be 3 to 4k at my fingertips, maybe more. Now on to Sweetwater... I had no idea that they were finally offering easy pay options. I'll never bother with those other websites again after knowing this. I also got their credit card, so there are a lot of musical toys in my future. Communication is always top notch, and they get your order into the hands of Fedex immediately(very pleased they use Fedex). I'm only a state away, so I can order early afternoon, and I still receive the gear less than 24 hrs later. Incredible. If you can get your hands on the Fantom 06, don't hesitate. Getting it fast from Sweetwater just makes the purchase all the better!
I love this keyboard. I've had it for about a week. The sounds that come out of it and amazing! It's nice when a company puts a product that outstanding, this is one of those times. If you're into making beats, I highly recommend pairing this with a MPC. I prefer using that for sequencing, but the Fantom does a nice job too.
It's a good all around machine for sketching out songs and ideas, sort of a jack of all trades. The sound library has just about any instrument/sound texture you could want, the synth parameters are pretty adjustable if you're into sculpting sounds (2 VCOs, a filter, ADSR envelope, various routing options and effects, etc), the sequencer is easy to use. The user manuals are pretty helpful and Roland has some good online tutorialsThere are 16 'zones', which are essentially tracks. And since the unit is meant for live performances each setup lives in a 'scene'. The one downside where it's not a DAW/MPC killer is the 'sample" pads. Out of the box they sort of exist separate from the tracks, so they don't have all the functionality you would expect if you're used to an MPC, namely time stretching samples to your song, but they did make some improvements over the last fantom so there are some work arounds though. It's light and feels quality built. Overall I would recommend it.
The sequencing workflow is now super fast with touchscreen, screens , tr-rec. Live play is improved due to pad mode flexibility. This workstation could be a game changer for Roland. Zen core makes the sounds a bit better even in mono. Only thing missing is custom arps as far as I know.
