And as usual I couldn't be happier with B&H's great customer service.

I was a little unsure what this unit would be like but after reading the specs and watching a couple of video reviews I took the plunge and ordered a Roland FP-90 online and a couple of days later and despite UPS's best efforts I received a perfectly intact and functioning FP-90 which is a testament to the way Roland packaged the thing up, (the box arrived with a huge hole on one side). Lets start with the build quality. This thing is built like a tank and weighs almost as much. After owning a couple of Yamaha's I can definitely see that the FP-90 has been built to a higher standard. The front and back are metal with a plastic top and sides. It really does look good and to be honest has a nicer look and feel than most of the sub $2000 pianos on the market. The keyboard feels nice and solid and the overall function is smooth with a medium weight. The action is way better than a Yamaha P-255 and in my opinion on par with the CP4. This piano has built in speakers and they sound great. With the volume turned up you can easily fill a small venue without having to use an external amp or speakers. The piano sounds built into the FP-90 all sound really good, they sound full and rich, plus with the help of the Piano Designer app can be adjusted to the users preference. In my comparison the built in grand piano sounds better than my old Yamaha P-255, CP40 and against a direct comparison with Pianoteq. I LOVE THE BUILT IN BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY. Without any cables or complications this piano paired directly to my iPad and Mac book Pro. The available Roland apps include the afore mentioned Piano Designer and Piano Partner 2. Both of these apps are well designed and work perfectly. I also got a chance to test it with Playground Sessions and the program worked flawlessly with the midi connection coming from the Bluetooth adaptor built into my Mac book.

Amazing piano sound, action, refined look and FEEL
16 April 2024

The action on this keyboard is so nice that I doubt I’ll ever want for more. The default concert grand piano sound model is amazing, again, I don’t think I’ll ever want for more. The look and feel is more like a nice piece of furniture rather than a keyboard in the corner of the room. It can be a centerpiece. I love the sliders, the tactile switches, the clean overall appearance. The wood is MDF/particle board so treating it with care is probably important. The speaker output volume can go louder than I’m willing to listen to it. It maintains good sound across the volume range where I’ve used it.The headphones are OK. The sound is quite good to me but I prefer softer ear pads. I’m not sure I’d want to wear them all day.The bench feels a touch high to me. ... MoreThe action on this keyboard is so nice that I doubt I’ll ever want for more. The default concert grand piano sound model is amazing, again, I don’t think I’ll ever want for more. The look and feel is more like a nice piece of furniture rather than a keyboard in the corner of the room. I’m a 6’ tall guy with average proportions. For the price I think a glass music stand would be a nicer touch than the acrylic, and less likely to scratch, though I’m happy with what they shipped. The app is just OK. There is a lot of untapped potential and I don’t want to have to create an account in order to use it with the keyboard I paid for. The accompaniments for jazz are lackluster, though I’ve found this to be the case on every keyboard I have experienced.A bigger headphone hook seems prudent to me as well, I’ll buy something after market.Overall I’m ecstatic with my purchase.

Didn't realise how much I

Have been playing a DGX-650 for 8 years now and decided I wanted to get more serious with my piano playing. The action on this piano is amazing, and extremely quiet especially in comparison to my old digital. Having ocd, the ivory texture on the keys is much appreciated and infinitely more pleasing to look at than glossy white. The texture also helps with playing if your hands get a tad sweaty like mine do.The speakers on this piano are fantastic and are kind of overkill for the room I have it in. I've only ever had them at full volume once to test it and surpisingly the speakers didnt peak at all (that I could notice). I very much like having the extra headroom for volume so I don't have to worry about pushing the speakers too hard or blowing them.I mainly play the piano tones and personally love the modeling engine on this piano. To be fair I haven't tried many digital pianos so this might be common but the simulating of resonance is one of my favorite parts about the piano tones. This is pretty much the most expensive portable digital you can buy so I shouldn't be too surprised but I personally love the tone lf this piano. Nothing compares to the real thing but the sound comes close enough for me. I also quite like the e-piano tones.Overall I love this piano (so far) and don't have any problems with it. The build quality is amazing, and the minimalist design is utilitarian but also pleasing to look at, which is partly what drew me to the fp series of pianos. I've found that, because of the action and sound, I actually have been wanting to play more as of getting this piano. If you can afford this piano and are looking to upgrade I couldn't recommend this piano more.

Fantastic keyboard
10 December 2023

Bought this keyboard because I wanted something with a playability and sound that's close to a real piano, but with a little more mobility. I used to play an older roland model (RD-700GX) that I thought was fantastic. The FP-90X is the successor and it sounds fantastic. I also appreciate that it doesn't have so many buttons compared to other digital keyboards on the market-you can focus on playing the keys. My kids will be learning piano on this as well for a while, so I'm happy with the purchase!

Premium quality keyboard
23 July 2024

Premium quality. VERY loud for at home piano!! That's really good! Everything seems high quality (of course, because it's made in Japan). Everything is thought through. From stand screw positions (not in the way of anything), to buttons (minimalistic and quality). There's nothing I can complain about except for the finger prints created after touching the piano dashboard. For future pianos, please make a finger print less dashboard. (Either wrap it with some material that does not leave finger prints).

Review of Roland FP-90X Digital Piano in Black
6 July 2024

The FP90X has a good quality feel to the key-bed. The general construction feels solid. The piano contains a wide range of sounds, although the small screen and up down controls makes selection some voices and features a bit tedious. A control wheel and larger screen would be a better option, however the quality of the key action more than makes up for this. The sounds from the FP90X are excellent when connected to a good pair of monitor speakers. Whilst the internal speakers are capable of providing loud volume at reasonably good quality, they are, like most digital pianos, not ideal for hearing the instrument at it's best. The addition of the matching Roland stand make this a very good looking instrument and well worth the additional cost, it looks so much ... MoreThe FP90X has a good quality feel to the key-bed. The 90x makes me want to play and play.
24 April 2024

I bought this almost three weeks ago and spend about two hours playing and learning how to use this keyboard for my home studio.1st, it has an acoustic feel that is the best I HAVE ever played. Close your eye's and its pure joy to feel. And, the 90x allows for several tweaks to improve your personal taste.2nd, Cable to your DAW and record directly from your keyboard.3rd, Be prepared to test adjustments and choose the fit that is right for you. Learning the options is taking me sometime. I am super picky about the high notes and I still don't have it dialed in completely. That remonds me I have to go play & work on it right now. Bye and good luck on yuor musical journey.Larry

the cheapest way to get a pro-action piano
9 February 2023

The PHA-50 action is awesome, and this keyboard is the least expensive one I could find that has that action. It's a very solid build, with everything you could ask for from a keyboard/controller. You could use it for gigging, but it's pretty heavy for that: I have it set up as a controller at home, and only use the internal sounds casually. I find that the speakers sound better if the keyboard is against a wall, but if you're using it as a controller, that's not really an issue. I'm super happy with my purchase, this keyboard will serve me well for many years to come!
