A journey on a witch's broomstick is fun, but life is also full of dangers for witches. Especially when the witch finds herself in front of a greedy dragon. It's good to have friends who can help you out of a tight spot! The witch and her cat are flying through the air on their broom. Suddenly, the wind snatches the witch's magic hat. Luckily, a polite dog appears, holding the hat in his mouth, and asks for a spot on the witch's broom. The bird, who returns the witch's hair ribbon, also wants to join the flight. And the frog, who brings back the magic wand, joins in too. But, as fate would have it, the broomstick breaks in two, and they crash down into a swamp, where a dragon is already looking forward to a delicious witch's feast. However, thanks to the brilliant rescue operation of the two, three, four animals, that won't happen. Soon, the five of them can continue flying on a new broom.

In this lightweight, witty story, helpful animals find "room on the broom" of a generous witch. At first, a striped cat accompanies the cheerful sorceress: "How the cat purred/ and how the witch grinned,/ As they sat on their broomstick/ and flew through the wind." Next, a spotted dog retrieves the witch's flyaway black hat and asks to come aboard. The three riders soon welcome a green parrot (who finds the witch's lost hair ribbon) and a frog (who rescues her wand from the bottom of a pond). When threatened by a dragon, the loyal animals form a "Brementown Musicians" chimera whose "terrible voice,/ when it started to speak,/ was a yowl and a growl/ and a croak and a shriek." The witch repays them by conjuring a cushier vehicle. Donaldson and Scheffler, previously ... MoreIn this lightweight, witty story, helpful animals find "room on the broom" of a generous witch. Donaldson and Scheffler, previously paired for The Gruffalo, emphasize the airborne animals' contentment and evoke sympathy for the broom's driver. In Scheffler's comical panels and insets, the witch has a warty nose and lace-up boots, but wears a pleasant smile; Donaldson puts a spooky/silly spin on the folktale format. The metrical rhyme and goofy suspense aren't groundbreaking, but readers will likely find it refreshing to see a witch playing against type. Ages 4-8. (Sept.) Julia Donaldson is a gem of a writer. My kids and I adore her books. This story is all about sharing. The characters are lovable, the message is precious whilst being funny and the illustrations are wonderfully engaging. A real page turner that sings with rhyme and that every kid would love. I would highly recommend this book as I would any of Julia Donaldson books.

I love this book. It's so fun. HOWEVER, I found the product description very confusing and misleading. The item is called "Room on the Broom (Paperback)" however, the format is listed as hardcover. This is a paperback book and should only be marked as such. Additionally, I was charged for hardcover.
Great spooky season read! It isn’t spooky at all, it’s adorably fun! I purchased this along with some other cute books to celebrate spooky season & we have read it over and over and over.. hehe!
This book was much bigger than expected, about the size of legal paper. Artwork is cute. Great message. I purchased for my granddaughter and I’m pretty sure she’ll love it, she’s 3 years old.
Great book with rhyming words, good story and I have found that children love it. It quickly becomes a favourite.
Recommended for ages 3 to 99; I'm closer to 99. In my teaching days, I taught young children and came across MANY great books, but nothing to compare with those produced by Donaldson & Scheffler. The witch's broom breaks and she lands near a dragon! ... who thinks he will have witch and chips for his tea. An idea that the witch doesn't like! Soon after, the dragon is startled when a voice says "That's my witch!" All through the book are suspense and funny situations. A MUST HAVE book for the young at heart!
Everyone in the family loves this book. Very well written and lots of fun. Highly recommend.
I was so glad to get this book in time before Halloween. Since Im not able to go to the library, buying this book was so worth it cause its funny and engaging at the same time. And my little one wants me to read every night. Deeply satisfied
