The harness is well made, it looks comfortable and the reflective trim is a very nice useful featureHowever, because the dog has to slide their head in the harness, it does not work well for dogs who have big heads (eg. bully type dogs). My dog has a giant head and for him to be able to wear the harness, I have to leave the "collar" portion of it loose enough for his head to slid through it. The result is that the harness is very loos on his neck. When he pulls, the entire front portion of the harness (collar and chest "band") rotates sideways. It does not seem to be unsafe (because the back portion of the harness is well fit to his chest and passes behind his arms). This harness sits far away from the armpit, so we are keeping it, despite it not being perfect for our dog.

After using one for years with my family dog (a single harness!) I gladly purchased my own when I adopted my first personal dog. These harnesses are great for everyday walks and water/trail adventures. They clean well and are so incredibly durable! Never has my dog struggled with movement or irritated skin. The front clip, even though it is woven, has not shown a single sign of coming off either. Me and my family still use it to this day. Thank you for a wonderous option!Note: It is possible for a dog to back out of this harness and slip their 'arms' through it. It has only happened when we tried to use it as a bath time helper, never during a walk or in public. It's quite possible we had ours too lose, so I still thoroughly recommend this product and the rest. ... MoreAfter using one for years with my family dog (a single harness!) This is the second round of these harness I've purchased, so obviously I'm pleased. I will make this note, however, my weird shaped rescue (try to picture a fifty pound Chihuahua 😂), has a barrel chest, and a tiny head. When he was younger, he would easily back out of this harness, so I got him the webmaster (?) with two straps and a handle. That did the trick! However, for long road trips it's hot, and not easy to get on and off in a rushed situation, so I ordered the front range again, for him, and his more normally shaped "brother". Now that he's older and a little calmer, I'm confident he won't try to back out, and will be able to wear the harness the entire trip. That being said, if you have a longer bodied, barrel chest dog, you might find this harness does ... MoreThis is the second round of these harness I've purchased, so obviously I'm pleased. We bought this for our 14 month old Borzoi (a Russian sighthound breed). She was bred to hunt game miles away from her people, so they tend to be independently minded and obsessed with pursuing rabbits, squirrels and anything that moves in the distance. It makes walking her difficult. This harness makes it easy. I love how adjustable it is so I can make it snug around her deep chest and properly fit around her slender neck. I was initially concerned the straps might run the skin under her armpits, but they don’t irritate her skin at all. There is a lot of surface area to the harness chest piece and back so when I pull her back from a distraction, I can safely gain control of my girl without pinching her with a skinny strap. There is a lot of surface area to the harness chest piece and back so when I pull her back from a distraction, I can safely gain control of my girl without pinching her with a skinny strap. To stop her pulling, I just clip her leash to the front ring of the harness and pull up. There is no fighting her. She went from being miserable to walk, pulling in every direction to walking in sync with me.My puppy did chew through the chest strap of her first harness less than a month after getting it. I was disappointed Ruffwear couldn’t offer a replacement, repair service or even a discount on a one time replacement, as the rest of the harness was intact and the strap was just a piece of nylon strapping. This is a pricey harness and it’s common for dog accessories to be subjected to dog life. Not the level of service I expected from Ruffwear. I still recommend the product though.
I purchased this harness because I was looking for an "Easy On" option. I didn't want the dog to have to step through a leg opening, or for me to have several sets of buckles to snap. The Front Range harness fits the bill. It goes on over the dog's head; the breast flap with the male portion of the buckles goes between the forelegs, and these snap into the female portion of the buckle at the back of the harness. It seems well=padded. I like the front leash attachment point for pullers (I hope that this attachment construction is as durable as the metal attachment point at the back of the harness). I've found that using the metal attachment point at the back of the harness makes the leash less likely to get between the dog's forelegs as we walk and they drop their ... MoreI purchased this harness because I was looking for an "Easy On" option. They are drawn up under the padding just enough that it can be difficult to snap or release the male portion into them.
This is the first harness I have ever purchased for my dog, and I wish I would have bought one years ago. He was good on a leash with a collar when he was a smaller pup, but now that he’s full grown and he has gotten stronger, my arm and shoulder would be sore after a long walk with all of the tugging. The only way to keep him from tugging was to run for a longer distance just to wear him down enough to keep him from the continuous pulling. With the Front Range Dog Harness, it only took 3 outings to correct his constant pulling! With the leash hooked to the front loop, the redirecting got his attention very quickly and I was able to move the leash to the back loop before the end of our first walk. The way that he can feel his weight distributed across his chest when ... MoreThis is the first harness I have ever purchased for my dog, and I wish I would have bought one years ago. The way that he can feel his weight distributed across his chest when he pulls, he actually slows down and allows the leash to have slack. He turns and looks at me for queues instead of acting like a bulldozer! The size guide was accurate, and it was very easy to adjust the straps to get the perfect fit. He wasn’t bothered by it at all, and now he gets excited when he sees the harness come out! Our adventures are going to be endless with the harness and leash combo!
I hate to say it, but my dog and I aren't fans of this harness. We have a Flagline harness that's been serving us well for >2 years, but I needed a harness without belly straps while my 4-legged sidekick recovers from surgery to remove a tumor from his side. I expected the Front Range harness to be very similar to the Flagline, but it is not. The Flagline harness is sleek and smooth, while the Front Range harness is stiff and padded. The bulk and thickness of the padding rubs uncomfortably against my dogs axillae no matter how carefully I adjust the fit. In Ruffwear's defense, the item description does clearly say "padded." Nonetheless, the padding makes the harness less comfortable for my dog.I still give the product 4 stars; it is well-made and I do find ... MoreI hate to say it, but my dog and I aren't fans of this harness. We are on our 3rd Front Range harness for our dog, and I can't possibly imagine ever getting a different kind. Why are we on 3 harnesses? Well, I'll tell you. The first one we bought unfortunately got skunked (along with our dog who was wearing it...) at point blank range and folks there are just some things that cannot be washed out. The second harness fell victim to our dog's violent need to roll around in the excrement of other animals he found while at the dog park one day. We definitely could have taken the harness home and washed it and it would have been good as new, but this happened while we were travelling and didn't want the smell to be in our car for the next 7+ hours, so we decided to get rid of it and get another one. That being said, when the front ... MoreWe are on our 3rd Front Range harness for our dog, and I can't possibly imagine ever getting a different kind. Why are we on 3 harnesses? We have a Husky/GSD mix and the Large size is perfect for him. It's so easy to take off and put on as well, we love it!!Can't wait to see what creative way our dog finds to ruin this next one!
We love our new harnesses! They are lightweight, especially compared to our previous ones, and our parents like the metal hook for our leashes. Our parents say we're walking better and a little more well-behaved with these new ones. This is what started it; needing a harness for puppy class and this was the brand recommended. Checked out the options and the colors, and went with the Moonlight Mountain which went well with my tricolor pup, not drawing attention to the gear, but allowing the dog to be noticed. Took some adjusting as his neck is small and his girth is not, but I just discovered he's gained 12 pounds in the month since I've gotten him! Hope I won't have to adjust it before the classes are over, however, I think I've gotten the hang of it now. He anticipates going for walkies or for a ride whenever he sees me pick it up and it works well with the car seat belt restraint in lieu of the other harness. I wish there were an easy way to adjust it each time, but that probably would make the harness less effective. He doesn't seem to mind as long as we are both patient in the process. I do really like this harness. It was a bit stiff at first, but it is well made and looks good on my puppy without being overly flashy.
