Ruffwear Swamp Cooler Vest

The innovative Ruff Wear Swamp Cooler provides your dog with on-the-go 'air-conditioning' in hot humid conditions. Available in multiple sizes it allows dogs of all shapes and sizes to brave the summer heat. The vest utilizes evaporative cooling technology to keep dogs cool. Simply soak it with cold water wring out the excess and put it on your four-legged friend. The top layer consists of air-mesh that generates evaporation and releases heat. A middle layer absorbs and stores the cooling water so the bottom layer that rests against your dog's body continues to offer a cooling effect. Once enough time has elapsed under the hot sun to decrease the moisture just add more cold water and off you go. As an example of the vest’s effectiveness if your dog’s external temperature is 106 degrees Fahrenheit the Swamp Cooler can lower that temperature to 74.3! Side-release buckles make it easy to put the vest on and take it off. Built-in adjustability allows you to dial in the fit. A leash pass-through allows your dog to wear the vest with Front Range or Web Master harnesses (both sold separately). Reflective trim provides visibility and an integrated light loop is ideal for attaching The Beacon safety light (sold separately). The Ruff Wear Swamp Cooler is available in an array of sizes. Please reference the Size Chart for Ruff Wear’s measurement instructions and suggested fit.

It’s just a wonderful piece of kit to have if your dog suffers from the heat. I use one for my chihuahua who has a double coat and overheats quickly. This cool jacket means she can enjoy her walks without panting and overheating. I also have one for my chocolate lab which we also use in the car on hot days when travelling. I just can’t inagine being without one. They are so simple to use and mean that our dogs can enjoy walking with us during the summer without overheating. The fit is true to size.

My wife and I love hiking and camping with our Olde English Bulldogge. Because of his breed we always have to be conscious about keeping him cool. This a great product to help with that. We can definitely tell a difference when he?s wearing it. Less panting and more energetic. It does dry out on hot days quickly so having extra water is something that you?ll need to plan for. Overall it?s a great tool to help with keeping your dog cool.

Cool COOL Coat
23 July 2021

I love the cool coat nearly as much as my Senior service K9. For years we have used a different cool coat. This year we went with your cool coat. Don’t know why I didn’t get it sooner as I have been a customer for many years and tell people about your company and products.Your coat fits so much better than any I have used in the past. It tucks around the GSD body and is a better fit. My partner is 11 and although he does not work as much, he is still my best friend and deserves the best.

Cooled the Golden Retriever!

Helped out a ton when we went to Eastern Wash in record temps (115)! Obviously we were also super careful about hydrating Sunny, keeping him in the shade, going out early, etc. But we noticed a remarkable lack of panting with our golden when wearing his vest. We tried to skip it the day we left since were mostly in the car but our vehicle is older (AC can't keep up) so I soaked the vest in a gas station sink and voila! Problem solved! How long it stays wet really depends. If you rewet with a water bottle, flip the vest up from the back and do the underside. Way better was when I soaked it in the river or our cooler of water. Will admit he wasn't a huge fan of wearing it but I mean who normally puts clothes on their golden - think he just wasn't used to it. Minimal rolling so overall he tolerated it well.HIGHLY recommend for a big furry dog in hot weather.Sunny is 95 lbs and the vest is generously sized for him.

Cooling coat/vest

We purchased two of these RuffWear Swamp Cooler Vests, one for our large dog to help him beat the heat in south Florida and an additional vest for our son's Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) in CO. It does not fit our Giant Schnauzer very well - it seems to run large. We had to get it large enough for his deep chest, then it is too big on his back. We love RuffWear products and only buy this brand. Our son LIKES his Swamp Cooler as it fits his smaller dog very well. He also uses this vest without water during the colder winter months as a Jacket. So, it would work well if it fits your dog. I would not only measure the dog, but also call RuffWear and discuss sizing with them. Then, order it from Baxter Boo :)

Our dog (border collie) was between sizes. The correct size for length gave a girth size just on the borderline between small and medium; a lesser girth size, which would have fitted well, gave a back length about 4" shorter.. We chose the larger size; it does give the body coverage we wanted; the securing straps are pretty much fully tightened to get the girth secure - so not a lot of leeway in terms of sizing. In terms of the product itself, it seems very well designed and manufactured; materials used seem substantial. All buckles and straps are hidden so risk of catching them on anything (like agility equipment) is very low.We used the vest in terms of cooling off after agility; getting into a hot car at the start of a journey and dog walking in temperatures ... MoreOur dog (border collie) was between sizes. All buckles and straps are hidden so risk of catching them on anything (like agility equipment) is very low.We used the vest in terms of cooling off after agility; getting into a hot car at the start of a journey and dog walking in temperatures in the high 20's. All have a significant impact on keeping the dog cool or, if hot, cooling him down much faster than otherwise. The best test was yesterday when walking mid afternoon in high temperatures. When the walk and play was over, the dog was panting but only as much as if it had been a spring day. 15 minutes in the cool of the house and he was totally back to normal. In terms of use, we are finding the easy way is to keep an extra water bottle in the car and pore its content onto the vest at the start of the walk. 500ml is adequate; 750ml gives it a good soaking. There's not much squeezing to be done (it held the content well) and the vest seems to work to about an hour. It also seems to dry quite quickly once the walk is over.Yes, it is silver grey and it will pick up/show grit/dirt if the dog lies down on loose ground with the vest on but it either just knocks off or, as has happened once when there were grass stains, a quick wash brought it back to new.I've noticed that some other dog walkers give sideways looks at the dog wondering why he is wearing a coat in such hot weather - they're usually intrigued when they find out for the first time its purpose

Great comfort in hot weather

Used the swamp jacket for a shepherd lab cross. Highly recommend for dog comfort in hot days (even for dogs who do not like winter jackets). Am ordering another for a short haired dog

Great, But Not Perfect
29 May 2018

I got it for my senior dog who is in hospice. She has nasal cancer, kidney disease, and high blood pressure. She loves long trail walks, but the heat is dangerous for her, so we've been walking in early morning combined with trying things like the swamp cooler. It does work well--at the end of the walk the area under the jacket is cool to the touch--but the sizing is strange. It's only adjustable in one spot, so there's no real way to make sure the part that goes over her chest fits closely; it just kind of hangs there and irritates her. The next size down would have been too small. It's a great idea and a great quality jacket, I just wish it were more adjustable.
