I was looking for a solid channel strip that would give me stellar quality during the recording process. I wish it had a built in DI for Hi-Z but it's really not a big deal. If you're buying a Neve Channel strip I'm guessing you also already own a high quality DI. At half the price of the Shelford and very close to the audio quality of it, I'm willing to sacrifice a few features. The 3 Band EQ is quite versatile and works great in fine tuning a track before we push the record button. This makes the mix process on the back end much easier since less cleanup work is needed. The compression and the silk work wonders although I do wish there was a variable attack.
