Rupert Neve Designs - RNDI Active Transformer Direct Interface Di Box

Frustrated with a lack of performance from available DIs, Mr. Rupert Neve set out to design a new direct interface that conveys the undiminished tone and vitality of the source instrument while balancing and isolating the original signal. The resulting RNDI delivers on that promise with a powerful and vibrant direct sound capable of reproducing the full harmonic depth of basses, guitars, acoustic instruments, and professional line level sources. With portable, powerful, larger-than-life tone for your instrument signals and amplifier signals, the RNDI is truly the first standalone DI worthy of the Rupert Neve name.

What can I say? It's a Neve through and through, it just adds that magic sound, and makes bass, guitar, whatever line level instrument you throw at it. I've had mine for about 2-3 months now and haven't looked back, it's just an all around improvement in signal and sound quality. I'm more than pleased with this Rupert Neve Designs original and highly recommend it to anyone who truly cares about their signal chain in their recording set up.

I've used it a lot on guitar and on bass. I have a real good preamp and so for recording direct I can't say that this adds as much as I've read via SOS. It definitely helps of you can crank Al little into it. I used a Cali 76 pedal. I tried once to run my power amp out of it and it sounded like crap. It's still a great DI box but it's a little much to use as just a DI. I would go jdi or warm audio.

A+! Shockingly cleaner than Radial or Avalon

Acoustic guitars and bass guitars sound appreciably better through this vs any other DI we've used. It conveys more definition, better transients, and reveals more "true" tone from to the actual instrument.

Best DI Ever!
13 April 2023

My sound engineer suggested I get the RDNI. We used the -dB button on my Tech 21 V2 Bass DI and ran it as a preamp to tailor the sound. As he describes it it makes my Spector Euro Classic 4 strung BEAD sound like "a grenade dipped in rich creamy butter!" The lows are breathtaking and sustain goes on for days. The low B crushes the house and really gets in to the low 30 Hz zone. What a weapon.

Head and shoulders above the others...

The Rupert Neve DI shows, again, why Mr Neve deserves his reputation. This DI manages to combine astonishing clarity with a rich, lush musicality that allows breath and life into the signals it passes, making other high end DIs - including several equipped with Jensen transformers - seem somewhat pedestrian by comparison. Apart from the superior sonics, the RNDI offers flexibility, being switchable for instrument or speaker levels, allowing it to capture either the input or output signals of an instrument amplifier. Not only does it sound better than other DIs, it also offers more options than most. Last but not least, it is build very solidly. It's not as light or compact as some DIs' but it appears to be extremely robust. And it looks good as well.

It seems expensive until you hear it

I've been using this to record guitar and bass direct in parallel with a mic'd amp, and it's changed my whole game. Putting your signal through Neve transformers is exactly what your studio needs. For the amount this has just boosted my guitar and bass game, I'd have paid double what I paid. It seems silly to spend $270 on a DI, but when you hear it, you'll think it was silly that RND is charging so little.

It's a Neve!

I bought a second RNDI to interface stereo stomp boxes to a Yamaha MG10XU. The pairing delivered a sonic punch. Active and passive pickup guitars equally sound phenomenal. My passive DI was binned.

Neve RNDI = AWESOME!!!
11 August 2019

Overall:I purchased this Direct Box and played my first gig with it. Outdoor concert venue with attendance of near 1000. My signal chain is Fender Roadworn Jazz Bass w/ passive Bartolini pickups, into 2 Zoom B3 units chained together, into the Neve RNDI.I run straight into P.A. without an amp, using my KZ in ear monitors as my listening source. Never before have I heard my bass sound so good! It was clear and punchy with full spectrum frequencies. When I asked the soundman what he thought he smiled and said it sounded incredible with flat response! This box is definitely a keeper and I urge any bass player to buy one and enjoy pristine signals!

Phenomenal DI
21 March 2016

I have other DIs with Jensen Transformers, and large red DIs with tubes. All are great and serve a purpose in the sonic arsenal of guitars and synths. I bought a pair of the Rupert Neve DIs for both stereo synths as well as sending recorded guitar to two amp heads for reamping. The tone of these is beautiful, full and very, very musical. The instrument/speaker switch is a real game changer for handling high output guitar heads. Electronic pianos sound warmer and fuller and less digital. You will not regret getting one (or two!) of these. I am very satisfied with my purchase and the service as always from B&H is second to none.

Overall:This may be the best all around DI box on the planet. It's not much more money than the industry standard Radial JDI and J48, and it blows both of them away. The reach on the low end is insane. It's like adding another octave on the bottom of a bass guitar compared to a passive DI like the JDI. Not in an inflated or bloated way, it just goes a lot deeper. It keeps the speed and clarity on the top end you get from an active DI like the J48, but without being harsh. It's has that warm, smooth transformer sound you get from a good passive DI but with the high end fidelity and punch you get from an active DI. It really is the best of both worlds.I typically use them for bass DI live, but they also excel at synths and keyboards. I've yet to find an application ... MoreOverall:This may be the best all around DI box on the planet. My only problem is that I need more of them.Build quality is very good. Mine get used in a live environment almost every day and are no worse for wear. These things are tanks.
