I returned the Ozito detail sander to get this Ryobi to sand the timber which will hold three pendant lights, and i couldn't be happier. It sands effortlessly, you don't even have to put any down pressure on it either. Because it slowly rotates the sanding disc as it goes, the sandpaper lasts 3 times as long, you're not just wearing out one area. It's amazingly comfortable to hold, and there is little vibration where you grip it.To the people complaining that it doesn't effectively draw up the dust particles, I'm guessing that you are not aligning the 8 holes in the sandpaper with the 8 holes in the base correctly, or you are not cleaning the HEPA filter properly. If you're expecting it to not produce any dust at all, you're expectations are unrealistic. Dust gets inside motor

I used it for a while sanding outside walls to prepare for re paint but noticed that there was almost no dust collecting in the dust compartment despite attached correctly. Did not use it for a couple of years and when I turned it on, it only spun until I actually touched a surface. Took back to Bunnings and was first told because I used it on an area where I had filled in nail holes, the warranty was not valid. Was told it was only for paint and wood! Spoke to manager who asked RYOBI rep who said owner did not use correctly so dust got inside the motor, so not covered under warranty. Second time I had problems with RYOBI product. Won’t be buying this brand again.

Good value, but weak motor.

I used this at home, for sanding a deck, some shelves and a few other bits and bobs, and the motor burnt out after 11months. The hook and loop pad also had to be replaced within that time period. It's good value for $75 (which I think is what I paid for it in 2020), but the motor I found weak for a 300w. I took it back to Bunnings recently, and upgraded to another brand. I find Ryobi products have too much internal plastic, and will eventually die. I also found the dust container awkward to remove and refit. I'd only recommend for home use, if you intend on using it a lot, I'd think twice.

Great little sander for the money...
16 May 2020

I got this a couple weeks ago after my in warranty One+ 18v sander just stopped working and I needed to finish my job. Went to Bunnings, but because I could not find the receipt, could not claim warranty... so I get this little dude. I generally prefer corded tools due to performance, but like the portability of battery. The job was sanding about 100 square meters of B ply in prep for varnish then smoothing between coats. So 3 passes required (300sqm). After the first 20 square meters, the one+ gave of the ghost (using good dust extraction as well) and would run but not sand. So, got this and it finished the job with barely a yawn. The built in dust catcher was ok, but the port was too small for my dust system’s hose.So all in all very happy with this sander. I thought about the “Japanese Turqoise” model but at $75 compared to $209... quess where I went. Here’s the only suggestion. Make the dust port fit a Ryobi vacuum. Then it Would be just about perfect.

Great sander for domestic jobs
22 December 2022

I bought this sander for some furniture sanding at home and to remove anti-foul paint on a 35’ boat. It’s was great for the furniture work. The random motion left a good finish when you got to fine discs. It struggled with the boat work. Sanding discs seemed to clog up quickly and fall off, compared to a Makita unit I used.

Great value. No worries.
17 July 2022

I bought it for a specific job, which I didn't want to do by hand due to health limitations. It did the job even better than I expected, with no fuss whatsoever. I have a few more jobs in the pipeline which I think it will handle with aplomb. I'm not a tradie, nor a diyer with endless tasks on the go, so I can't justify buying more upmarket tools, beside the budgetary limitations of a government pension. I'm very happy with my Ryobi tools, this one included.

Massive improvement to my last sander
6 October 2022

This little sander has made a huge difference to the speed of doing jobs around the house. It's so much lighter than my previous sander and the snap on/off hook & loop sandpaper option speeds up the change over of paper. No more clips and cutting paper to size. The whole process has become faster. The unit enables better access to tight spaces along window/door frames which means less hand sanding.

Really awful and don’t recommend
12 November 2022

I bought one two weeks ago and was really excited because it seemed to work well. However after about an hour of use the sanding sheets just started flying off. I thought that the sandpaper may have been a bit worn(?) and put a new sheet on but nope thing flew off as soon as I started it. I tried again and then gave up. I have a little battery sander from Ryobi with the point and have never had this happen in the 6 years I’ve had it. I took it back thinking it was just a faulty piece and got a new one last weekend. Just used it for the first time today and forty minutes in the sandpaper sheets are flying of again. I’m about to take the dreadful thing back again and see if I can find a different brand. Really awful and don’t recommend.

Superb, well-designed, a pleasure to use
30 March 2023

I bought this about a month ago, and have used it a lot since. I don't know how Ryobi does such excellence for the price. Well-designed, a pleasure to use, does the job well. Sometimes there are some regrets after purchase. With this machine there are none. I am very glad I bought it, and the special price was icing on the cake. I own other Ryobi machines, some for many years, so it is a brand I know and have good cause to like.

Weatherboard use
3 December 2022

Got this about a month ago, to sand our weatherboard home. It is very affordable and easy to use. Comes with a range of sanding pads that grip on easily and replacements are available in the same store. The dust extraction filter I couldn't find to replace but you can give it a good bang and shake off most of the dust.We also brought a Ryobi sheet sander and that is a much better size and shape for weatherboards. This orbital one does take the bottom of the weather boards back a bit far. Overall we still made use of it and will soon use it indoors too.
