Pros: Quieter than you'd expect. Easy to use. Easy to clean blockages (you have a clear line of sight straight through it to see how to clear it). A reverse button.Cons: Hates green/un-dry wood. Says it eats palm leaves in the ad but struggles with giant bird of paradise leaves which are a similar make-up.Overall: If you have a branch you can snap cleanly in your hands with that *snap* noise (as opposed to a wet, twisty result), this machine is brilliant. The slivers of stretchy bark will then wrap around the cutting mechanism. Easy to clear. A bit frustrating because you think, 'come on - you were SO close to cutting ALL the way through!'Despite these cons, I'd still absolutely recommend this. You get good at knowing what it loves and doesn't. And, like I say, so easy to clear blockages, it's not a drama. Leave the green wood to dry for a few weeks and you can poke that through too.

Our yard is overwhelmed with golden cane and Alexander palms to the point it is impossible to manage the dropped fronds far too many for the green bin service. I looked around for a suitable shredder and this one hit the mark. After adjusting the cutters it made short work of what would have been 2 dump runs with a trailer. It obviously won’t take the palm frond heels they went straight in the green bin this time or mabye saved for the fire pit. Works best when not overloaded just let the unit do the work. Other positives are a 4 yr warranty and the fact that the cutters are user serviceable

Just bought and used this on the weekend, on fresh cuttings of guava & feijoa trees (that we had trimmed down from 3.5m to approx 2.5m).It did a fantastic job, at mulching branches. The feeding chute can get a bit clogged with the soft twigs & leaves (that the plastic pusher, seems to make worse) - but this can be remedied by putting through a stiffer branch to help feed it through. Now, as the branches & leaves were rather fresh - I wouldn't say the end product was fully "chipped".. Some of the more flexible long/thin branches we're held together by strings/strips of fibres - so I removed these from the catcher, to mow over instead.Nonetheless I'm very happy with the unit.. It is self feeding, easy to use, and easy to get a feel for making feeding/throughput more efficient. It handled the thicker approx 40-45mm diameter branches well (after preparing them, into suitably sized & relatively straight pieces). I love how the motor adjusts the grinding power, based on the material being consumed - so there's power savings to be had, and also less noise.

This is a big ticket item that some people can’t really justify once they’ve cleared away the huge pile of mess they had in their yards with this fantastic perfectly capable machine, and this is probably why you see some bad reviews (they buy it, use it flawlessly until they’re done and then return it because they no longer need it, claiming it didn’t do its job?). Ignore the negative reviews this product is probably one of my best purchases from Bunnings ever. Use it as stated on the instructions, making adjustments for the different thicknesses with the adjustment knob and not trying to put branches in over 40mm and you’ll have no problems. I first ran mine for 5 days in a row and only had issues with things I did wrong, not the machine. I brought this doing some research and a bit worried about spending this kind of money where I have had seen a lot of these cheaper units are a waste of money. I have used it over the last 3 weekends and would say have run it a good 15+ hours. Once got the right setting for the blade have not looked back as it chomps anything i can feed down the shoot. have not had 1 Jam. I does like the more solid stuff better but I find if there id a leafy bit sitting on the blade feeding a solid bit in pulls it all through nicely. Gardens are starting to look really good with all the mulch too. Well worth the money.
This mulcher seems to have a lot of good reviews, so I think it's probably good for certain foliage but definitely not ALL foliage. I had nothing but trouble with it. It does not mulch so much as strip the branches into long pieces which quickly clog the machine (it is possible that they could have been left to dry out longer, however they were dry enough to start smoking/smoldering due to friction when wrapped around the blades). The end result was about 50/50 quantity of stripped branches to mulch. There is also a FIRE HAZARD: The machine will not stop until the blades are COMPLETELY clogged, so, due to the friction of the blades, a small amount of 'trapped' foliage can begin to smolder if left unchecked, THEREFORE IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE MACHINE IS OPENED AND ... MoreThis mulcher seems to have a lot of good reviews, so I think it's probably good for certain foliage but definitely not ALL foliage. I got about 10-15 minutes of use before I had to either stop and unclog the blades or, I could smell burning wood. I've included photos showing the stripped branches, the size of branch I was trying to mulch (between 10mm-30mm), and the clogged blades. This machine would probably be acceptable for the right foliage, but it is NOT as robust or versatile as the packaging implies (the instruction booklet inside the box is more specific including: Max branch size, and (oddly enough) a Min branch size, Dry foliage only, etc, etc, ... ). My advice: Bunnings tend to have a good 'Returns Policy', KEEP YOUR RECEIPT . It will only take one or two uses to find out if it is the right machine for you.
I bought one 3 weeks ago, and it was perfect... until the third time I went to use it it was as dead as a dodo. Bunnings excellent, said they would exchange it (although the staff member I spoke with didn't rate the machine highly). Replacement worked well on Friday and Saturday, and we treated it with great care, not overloading it, not too thick, ended with dry material etc, etc, but once again today it will not start. ARGH! Back to Bunnings to get my money back. SO disappointed. Bunnings have been excellent, but the product I do not think is reliable.
Bought this in 2020, when I had a major cutback of shrubs and trees in my yard. My ex and a couple of friends have also used it. It dealt with the mass of woody prunings with ease, but i did find it was not real keen on very fresh material. Not a problem - I was happy to let it dry a while and I don’t have palm trees so no issue with that. The amount of stuff I shredded over a day would have set me back a fair few payments at the tip, not to mention the fuel used to get there. Instead, I was able to shred the majority of the material and dispense it around my fruit trees and edges and the remaining amount was less than a load in my station wagon and I kept it in a corner until we had free green waste dumping (4 times a year here in Cairns). I am now 70 and the unit is easy to move to my chosen working position, easy to use (post a 15 foot piece of branch in and walk away to get the next one), the bin is a good size without being heavy when full and I can lift the unit and load it into the car or ute if needs be. It has dealt with all my prunings since and only now is needing a new blade.
I've had this shredder/mulcher for just over a year and couldn't be happier. It handled clearing a badly overgrown house block full of woody shrubs and small trees without missing a beat. Any branch that fit in the mouth was chopped up with ease whether green or dry timber. If the wood it a bit hard, the motor increases power automatically to handle the extra grunt required to shred it. My most recent job was mulching a huge 150mm diameter branch that was snapped off a 10 metre high tree during a storm. After cutting it up into manageable sizes with a chain saw, the entire branch that would fit through the mouth was fed in and totally filled up 5 wheely bins as fast as I could feed it in. I'm impressed every time I use this fabulous shredder/mulcher and having just completed demolishing the huge branch I just had to go on the Bunnings website and write this review. If you decide to purchase one of these machines you won't be dissapointed.
I bought this a month ago and and it is far superior to one I had years ago. It just pulls branches into the machine all the way. It only ever jams the chute when there are too many leaves to fit through at once. eg a large bush with many branches and leaves. It doesn't even jam on cabbage tree leaves or flax, but doesn't chop them, they just pass through into the bin.The only minor problem is having to regularly check the bin as bin as it stacks at one end, under the chute.Great efficient quiet machine.
