Ideal for small to medium areas - works very well and the line lasts a long time and unlike others is easy to maintain the line length. The Trimmer is very easy to use and also quickly adjusts to suit your arm length. A four amp hour battery allowed me plenty of time to do the average sized area that I have and with some power left to spare. Note that this is not a brushcutter - it's a line trimmer or whipper-snipper if you prefer. If you just have garden grass and weeds to trim then this will do the job. If you have thicker brush and blackberries to deal with then buy something from the more powerful Ryobi range. It also does edges with a clever head swivel attachment. I bought this because the bump head on my 2-stroke whipper snipper broke. It still cuts.Upon buying this I was informed by the assistant that it cuts his lawns really well to the extent that he recommends it for medium to large lawns. That is my lawn.My BROKEN 2-stroke petrol whipper snipper does a better job than this pathetic 18V pair of scissors. Seriously took me an 1.5 hours to mow the lawn due to this piece of rubbish. Not enough power. One cutting cord (compared to two on my broken petrol).Seriously if a BROKEN 2-stroke can cut better than this brand-new whipper, I do wonder why this has such good reviews.Don't recommend for anything other than a tiny lawn in a small town house.Don't recommend if you have buffalo grass, (especially a course grass ... MoreI bought this because the bump head on my 2-stroke whipper snipper broke. Not a bad item. Does as describes. Won't knock down really thick grass or big, thick thistles (although it does state this clearly on the box). Battery lasts for a reasonable amount of time, however that would be the one area for improvement. Even when using flat chat with a 4amp battery you only get about 10 or maybe 12 minutes max. Great item for suburban homes or a small backyard. Anything bigger, get a 2 stroke.

I've been using brushcutters/line trimmers, big and small, for over 40 years. Now that I only have a small grass patch, and both I and my petrol trimmer are getting old, after looking at reviews I decider to buy this one last year. Entirely happy with it! It is light and easy to handle and doesn't use too much battery. I was a little sceptical about the 1.6mm blue line but it has exceeded expectations, cuts kikuyu runners and thistles easily, no need for thicker line. Auto line feed works every time. Overall, a great purchase.
Compared to my previous 2 stroke dual-line trimmer I would say this line trimmer “is ok”. For me the trade off is it’s lighter (a shoulder strap would be useful), I don’t have to pull-start it and I don’t have to check the fuel or oil. The down side is it’s not that powerful and a single line is easily slowed down in the grass and drags. Cuts pretty easily through kikuyu leaves but not so much the stems. Took 15 minutes and a full 2.0Ah battery to cut about 10m2 of 15-20cm high kikuyu. If you can afford the dual line trimmer I would say get it. I’m pretty sure I will upgrade in the future.
I’m impressed with this little weed trimmer. It only has one line coming out, not two. Great for smaller and shorter grass. I have what I would call a medium sized lawn area using a 5ah battery. Last time I used it it lasted the whole hog, but after the rain came down and the grass grew massively it took 1 1/2 5ah battery to finish and it was a slog! It was under-powered and I had to run through the edges twice at some spots and slow down. What I did notice was how heavy the unit got after 10-15 minutes of continuous use. The motor was at the bottom so it meant the weight was all pretty much down the bottom and it got heavy. I bought a Ryobi weed trimmer harness for it. This helped but there just wasn’t a balanced place to attach the harness to the pole so it was ... MoreI’m impressed with this little weed trimmer. It only has one line coming out, not two. So all up a great little weed trimmer for small areas for short periods of time but not good for bigger, longer use.
I purchased this unit a little over 2 years ago. Honestly it is the worst ryobi product I have ever purchased. Here is why. 1) There is only one line exiting the head so only cuts half as good 2) the line constantly breaks inside the head and the line constantly unspools - a woefully thin line does not help either 3) there is not bump feed so you have to push a grey button on the head to make the line feed out 4) the motor is in the head of the unit making it bottom heady awkward to use (especially for edging) and it is woefully under powered 4) only suited to manicured lawns. If you need to cut tall grass or even weeds - forget it the weeds fall over in laughter at your efforts. The long grass gets wrapped around the snipper head and the unit starts smoking and overheats. 5) the plastic slicer blade attachments - yeh right in under 10 minutes (I kid you not) they are chewed down to nubs and that is only from cutting grass. This is a severely under powered snipper, very frustrating to use - due to the constant stopping and starting to either pull line out or rethread the spool. This makes gardening cringe worthy. I liked my petrol Ryobi heaps better - at least it did the job. Now what use to take me 30 minutes (petrol snipper) takes me 2 hours of frustration. I am so glad I will be upgrading to the HP Expandit trimmer this Christmas.
Bought about a month ago. Its worse than my old $50 corded no name brand because- the old one has a small plastic wheel that guides you against walls and edges so you dont chew through the cord. The current battery ozito has a wire that does this. A new ryobi does not even though its a 10 cent piece of plastic or wire.- it auto deploys more cord even when you dont need it. They claim this is a positive feature but Surprise surprise ryobi also sells a replacement cord cartridge.- the button is quite stiff but maybe that will loosen with time
I bought this to replace an old petrol. Unfortunately this is horribly underpowered and struggles to cut anything but fine grass. While it can trim tougher grasses it will take a lot longer. If you need it to clear out tall tough weeds, then good luck. The cutting head is single sided. It isnt a bump feed, instead you need to stop/start the motor to make it extend which takes some getting used to.Being an electric and a One+ does make this very convenient. No having to worry about fuel or oil, or pull starting. Pop a battery in and go.So in the end I had to keep the old petrol. I use this to maintain the edges but when the going gets tough the Ryobi gets put away.I don't recommend this if you have an actual yard to maintain.
Purchased one of these to replace a Husquvarna petrol weed eater which I've had for years. I knew when I bought this that it wouldn't compete against the Husky for the bigger jobs, but for light trimming it seems to do a good job. I only have two gripes (so far):1. The line extends every time I start it, which seems wasteful and unnecessary; and2. No matter how much I tighten the wing-nut that is supposed to clamp the grip-handle on the shaft inplace, it still slides up and down the shaft while in use, resulting in an uncomfortable and unnaturalhand position.Overall I'm pretty happy with it though, and it's great not having to shag around with petrol/pull cords etc on the smaller jobs anymore. Just click in the battery & go!
