Purchased at Home Depot. This Ryobi 18V hand vacuum might be small but it can handle big jobs. Great to clean out my car and messes that I don’t need to hook up my full size vacuum for, it’s very convenient. My husband takes it on his side jobs and if makes cleaning up easy. Very good suction, works on wet and dry messes. Lightweight and doesn’t take much space

GREAT hand vacuum

This is one of my favorite Ryobi tools. All those tools in the 10 piece kit I purchased, nail guns, stapler, etc. rarely get used (I only have so many home projects) but this one gets used multiple times every day. The fact that it's so light, clearly portable and just does it's job so well makes this one of the best products in this line - for me.PROS:-Incredibly strong suction. I have a Dysons V8 and it's on par or equivalent to the suction power of the V8. There is NOTHING this hand vac hasn't been able to pick up. I leave one door open - w/no screen - so my neighbor's cat (whom has clearly adopted me) can go in and out of the home throughout the day. This causes said flying bugs to come into the home. It is very easy to capture the bugs and release them outside. What I like is that I can tell I am not hurting them because they get vacuumed up right into the chamber and none of their body limbs go through any motor parts. When I used to vacuum them up with my Dysons and release them outside, they always seemed dazed or could hardly move (but you could tell they were still alive) and were staggering around at best. When I release them outside w/this vacuum, they are already buzzing about and fly away immediately. In fact I have to hold the dust chamber away when taking out the filter so they don't fly into my face. I don't want to touch them, kill or squash them in my home so this is a perfect compromise.CONS:-It is not as stable when setting down on a surface as many other devices. I've included some photos but the base is essentially 1.5 in width MAX - and narrows along the way. It has lots of ridges and causes the Ryobi to rock back and forth when setting down. It's fine if you've set it down on a firm, very wide surface but I once placed on a fairly wide ledge/not wide enough though, walked away, it fell and cracked a glass table top directly underneath. UGH! This $40 device will end up costing me over $1K to replace the glass. Of course this is my fault but it's a design flaw you want to be aware of when you're setting downCONSIDERATIONS-could someone on the Ryobi team please make/include a little plastic adapter so I can use some other standard vacuum attachments - the ones w/the round holes - that I have all over the house from other vacuums. Right now, the only attachment I can use is the crevice tool and the shape is entirely proprietary to Ryobi. It would make this little vacuum so much more useful and would likely only cost pennies to manufacture.-The one thing I like better about my Dysons is that it is so much easier to empty the contents. You press a button and boom, the contents are in your trash bin. With the Ryobi, you have to take out the paper/plastic filter every time and then dispense the contents. You'll always get some dust on your fingertips - but perhaps this is common to these kind of vacuums.TIP:-I don't know why it took me so long to figure out but the larger batteries increase the suction power of this vacuum. It makes the vacuum a little bit heavier, a little less well balanced but may be worth it.

This vacuum is strong and easy to use. The fact that it does not come with a battery make the price much lower than other vacuum in the market, like the Sharks. It is strong enough for most of my projects. It is especially good for fine dust from drilling and sawing.There is only 1 complain. I wish the filter is attached to the motor side instead of the dust compartment. It is a pain to remove the prefilter each time you want to empty the dust collector.I was going to use a Dyson V8 for small wood dust, but in that regard, the Ryobi vacuum is superior. You need to painfully pour water inside through the tiny opening like 100 times to clean it.With Ryobi, you just take out the filter and water it both sides.I think the filter is not washable as they want you to buy a new one, but it wash under water just fine.

Great for those who have other Ryobi tools, wanting fast, easy, always immediate access to a handheld portable vacuum for small cleanups. Plenty of suction for my needs when used at the “designed” angle (when using without attachment). Attachment is very small but always immediately handy for “appropriate” uses, in smaller spaces, not very deep, which also require less suction. (Not appropriate for general dusting that I like to do.) Easy to empty, wipe screen, and brush off or change filter. Gotta love that Lithium-Ion Battery (not included in my version - on purpose since I have two). BTW, that battery can also directly replace the older non-Lithium-Ion batteries on all One+ tools I believe. Great value and convenience!

Very happy with this hand vacuum, and would happily recommend it. Does the job well of cleaning up, and weight/ergonomics is excellent. Using one of my 2Ah LiIon batteries, it is pretty much the same size/shape/weight as my old Shark 15.6V Cordless hand vac, which this is replacing, so using this was an easy transition, and I find it much more comfortable than the Dyson which I find hard on the wrist. Over the years, I've gone through a couple Shark Cordless hand vacs, which I quite liked, aside from the fact those are throw-away tools (so wasteful and environmentally unfriendly) due to the non-replaceable NiCad batteries that degrade over time, and which are never charged/ready when I need to use them. Like most tools on Lithium batteries, the vacuum may stop running abruptly when the battery needs a swap/charge, instead of just slowing down and diminishing in power like NiCad powered tools. Emptying the canister is quick and easy, as is cleaning out finer particles from the filter (which does a superior job over my Shark). I'm not sure how often I'll need to replace the filter (PN A32VC04) yet -- It's a bit pricey at HD (and never in stock), and I might consider an after-market source at a fraction of the price.

I never get them going again because the batteries cost almost as much as the whole unit. Having interchangeable batteries resolves that issue. The Ryobi seems to have reasonable power but lacks the versatility of a hose attachment that can get into tight spots. But being able to keep the vac running & having decent power are it’s strong features and the price of vac (w/o battery) is affordable. I happen to have an assortment of batteries from the tools I own. If you don’t already have Ryobi tools & batteries, then that changes the affordability I mentioned. What to do with all the throwaway carcasses of my other portable vacs. I would recommend this hand-held vacuum with qualifications. The parts are difficult to detach for a woman, especially an old woman like myself with arthritic hands. I actually had to use pliers to remove the filter and to access the dust compartment the first time. These parts appear to have loosened up a bit with use, but they are still difficult. (I previously had a similar vacuum of a different brand that was heads-and-tails easier to use than Ryobi's version, but unfortunately they no longer make batteries for it.) Ryobi's ONE+ batteries are convenient when it comes to charging and attaching to various tools, but they are a royal pain to remove from all Ryobi tools (including this one) for a woman, because our smaller hands do not provide the needed leverage. ... MoreI would recommend this hand-held vacuum with qualifications. The whole point of having a hand-held vac is the convenience of being able to clean up small messes around the house without having to dig out my big vacuum cleaner, and this serves that purpose, but without the ease it should have, and could have, with a few design modifications. For a man using this vacuum to clean up workshop debris, this tool would be ideal. It has good suction, so I give it four stars for that.

Improvement over earlier versions but still average

This is my third One+ handheld vacuum. Previously I had two of the old blue models - the first and second ones. The first was useless and the second was just okay. This one definitely has more suction than the model I had before (the P712) so I'm glad I upgraded. However, it's still unimpressive as handheld vacuums go. The crevice tool falls off quite easily - surely they could have improved that over all this time. And the mouth of the vacuum is angled in such a way that you need to hold the thing against a surface at a very steep angle to get a decent seal. If you hold it at a more natural angle - let's say 30 - 40 degrees - the performance is pretty poor. At first I thought the suction was bad but then I realized it was the angle of the opening. The switch works well which I think I read was a complaint with the older model (that, and not being able to read the battery bars with the old battery location). It is a bit bulky for tight spaces but you should use a normal hose vac if that is what your needs require. The separate "tight spaces" attachment nozzle is cleverly stored underneath the front canister when not in use. Noise level is about the same as other hand vacs I've used and quieter than hose vacs. The vac is convenient and quick to use for sprucing up, not deep crevice cleaning. My wife likes using the smaller 1.5 or 2.0 Ah batteries to keep the unit extra light and, seriously, we only use it for brief periods of time so it takes a long time to drain those smaller batteries. The bristles on the attachment nozzle can scratch glossy plastic (i.e.- TV items like sound bar) so use that nozzle only for fabrics couches, tile, etc. I could not knock anything off the rating since the item does what I expected it to do and does it well. Kudos to the design team who took advice from owners of the first-generation vac to improve upon the next gen vac. I also like how the flat battery bottom acts as a weighted stand for the vac so it sits upright and stable when not in use. The design team really thought this version through. Good job!

It provides enough suction to pick up dirt, pet hair and plenty of debris. And I love the fact that, unlike conventional cordless vacs, it never runs out of juice. That's because it's powered by the same Ryobi One batteries used by most Ryobi One 18V devices, and I've always got a charged battery waiting... and even my 2ah battery powers this vac for quite a while.This vacuum, however, does have a few drawbacks:1.
