As other reviewers mention, the straws that come with the flasks are annoyingly long. Salomon has an instructional video on how to cut them that makes it look way easier than it is. I couldn’t even get the plastic pieces off the ends - neither could my boyfriend, nor my local Salomon shop dealer. I asked Salomon if I could exchange the vest for a unisex version and they said no, because I had already unwrapped the straws. They did send me new straws, but I had the same issue with those ones. Salomon then told me ā€œthere is nothing more we can do, as this is not a problem and we have never had any problems with cutting the straws.ā€ So I would strongly advise against buying this vest unless you want super long straws slapping you in the face while you run.

I really love this pack. I am a short female and have had issues with finding a fitting hydration pack for long runs and races that does not chafe my hip. The adv skin 12 W's edition solved the problem for me as it is shorter in length. I also like the straw bottles, they are placed in a comfortable position and the straws make drinking easier as I have neck pain. Cutting them to adjust the length was easy. I sometimes use the 250 ml soft flasks, which fit nicely into the bottle pockets of this vest, this is when I expect I won't need to carry a lot of water on my run. The elastic closing in the front is nice, it secures the pack at a wide range of tension, while still letting me breathe. The pack does get warm, but I don't really mind it that much. Chafing is an issue if I don't wear something other than a sports bra underneath, the material is quite rough on the skin. I tie my poles to the bottom back, but sometimes have issues with them falling off as the back attachments are a little bit too far away from each other. A pity, since I really like that attachment point. Maybe Salomon did not consider that short runners have short poles? Probably going to try a quiver in the future to solve this problem. Other than that, great fit and lots of options for storage. I take it on almost all of my runs because I like it so much. The issues I have with it I feel are really minor in comparison to all the good things this pack does for me. Would have gotten five stars if the pole attachment worked for me.

Decent vest, but I don't understand the hype
17 August 2022

I bought a Salomon vest because they are visible with the pros at almost every major event. I don't understand the hype. The vest is comfortable, but gets extremely hot on long runs compared to my other brand pack. Another reviewer mentioned the neck chaffing issue -- I agree. I also strain my neck anytime I try to drink from the two bottles on the front of the vest, or risk running into something while I tilt my head down. I like the capacity for carrying water, which is one of the benefits of this pack compared to others. The pocket storage is adequate, although I've struggled to find a good place for my phone that doesn't move around when I run. I don't have experience with this yet, but I'm worries about the lasting quality of the bungee straps. Gamechanger for my trail runs!
10 October 2022

I bought this to replace my Ultimate Direction vest that is now too big from the weight I have lost cycling and trail running. I just took this out on a 2x loops 15 mile Dog Mountain / Auspurger trail run yesterday. It took me a few minutes to dial in the fit but once I had the vest locked in it performed great. Yes, it does get hot with padded back but it was also a hot day in the 80's and steep trail as that run was nearly 6,000 feet in gain. I appreciated that extra padding at times as well. I could drink from water bottles without removing them. I like the slip pockets for Larabars, snacks, you could even stuff a lightweight windbreaker, gloves or beanie in them for easy access. The zippered pocket was super handy for my ID, extra set of wired headphones, cell phone, key fob for car. This vest has a ton of storage space and this was just the 5. I wish I had this two weeks ago when I ran the Timberline Trail around Mt Hood. I will test more extensively on Loowit Trail here soon around Mt St Helens. I did not have any neck chaffing as some other have mentioned.

Good, not great

After reading all the glowing reviews of the Adv Skin 5, I may have gotten my hopes up a little too high. I like that I can carry water, food, and have a place to stash extra gear for when I find myself overheating during a long run in the winter. I’m 5’ 11ā€, 170 lbs, and perfectly between sizes. I find the medium a little too small and the large a little too big. The medium chafes my neck on the left side, and I don’t like the feeling of the lowest segment of the draw cord against my upper abdomen. with the large, there’s too much bounce in the water bottles, and the fit is too sloppy overall. As for pockets, there is definitely plenty of space, but i really wish there was a dedicated phone pocket. Overall, while it does the job, I’m not nearly as satisfied with the vest as I expected to be.

Great fit for a lady
17 October 2022

I have only used this one time so I can’t comment on the durability. I’d like to comment on the fit because I struggled with selecting this over the woman’s version. I’m a female and my bra size is 34 C. After reading reviews I was not sure if I should get the woman or the unisex. I opted for the unisex and here’s why. I read a review of the woman’s fit saying that there was only one space in the back for bladder and any other storage. With the unisex the bladder can be separate from the rest of your gear because there is a separate pocket for the bladder. This is very important. Now on to the fit with my ladies. With the unisex the bladder can be separate from the rest of your gear because there is a separate pocket for the bladder. This is very important. Now on to the fit with my ladies. I was worried that the water flasks in the front would be uncomfortable but I’m actually finding that because they are soft flasks, they are super comfortable when running and easy to drink from. They barely add any extra bounce (the flasks) when I run and really don’t add much noticeable weight. I believe that unless I’m doing my really long runs, I will just use the front flasks instead of the bladder because I find it more comfortable to run with the flasks in the front than the bladder in the back. It’s not that the bladder in the back is uncomfortable. It’s just that the way the weight is distributed, on the front seems to work really well for me. So, if you’re a female with some extra bounce in the front, don’t be afraid of this unisex version. It is comfortable and will conform to your body. And as for measurements and fitting, I measured around my chest at the largest spot and I was 37 inches exactly and the size small is perfect in terms of fit. I can even fit the water flasks in the front and the water bladder in the back and pack a light jacket and this is still comfortable to wear. I hope this helps someone make their decision.

I wore this vest trail running 100+ miles in the alps over the summer. I really wanted to like it but these were the issues:- Terrible chaffing around the neck and torso, while I know this can happen with vests, this material was particularly rough and dug in- I put my phone on the front pocket and the mesh tore easily and there's a hole, mesh fell apart quickly- It absorbs smell, an issue I don't have on other packs, even after one wear.- I couldn't get the straw off the spout to adjust the length. I tried to the point of blistering my hand trying to get it off, trying to get help from others, they also could not get the straw off, very frustrating.- Traps sweat like crazy all around the torso, my shirt gets so soaked quickly from this vest, another issue ...Ā MoreI wore this vest trail running 100+ miles in the alps over the summer. Unfortunately, I did not love this product as much as I’d hoped to, but I know most adore it, so take my review with a grain of salt. I also am generally not a trail runner (though I have), mostly walking and hiking, and my water needs are much greater than most.My reason for purchasing was that I needed more carrying capacity than my Osprey Dyna 6 could provide. As someone who goes through a lot of water, I need both the bottles and the hydration bladder. Removing and inserting the hydration reservoir is much too fiddly for my liking, but I should have realized that from the product video. You must use the Salomon 1.5 L as well, which wasn’t specified (Osprey’s 1.5 L will not work, despite both being made by Hydrapak). You must use the Salomon 1.5 L as well, which wasn’t specified (Osprey’s 1.5 L will not work, despite both being made by Hydrapak). I also really missed the magnetic bite valve attachment from the Osprey. Also, while the pockets are large to increase carrying capacity, it can be a bit annoying depending on what you are trying to carry. In the Osprey Dyna 6, there is a zippered phone pocket that fits my phone well and keeps it in place (have not tried that vest with front bottles, though). In the Salomon Adv Skin 12, my phone is always trying to run down to my side. The same for other items in the other front pockets… I sometimes end up with a collection of items that have migrated to my lower back. Finally, the mesh is very abrasive feeling. Tank tops were a no-go.I do really like the pocket at the top on the main body. In my case, I stash my Therm-a-Rest self-inflating seating pad in there, and can easily remove and replace it without removing the pack. I’m sure it would be great for gloves and a toque.I could probably adapt to the pocket situation over time. I have seen reviews that mention it took others a fair amount of trial and error. For me, because of my hydration needs, I will stick with my Osprey Dyna 6, and I have finally found a sufficiently supportive daypack that will meet my needs when walking or hiking and needing that capacity. If I do return to trail running, my distance would generally be 10k, so the Osprey Dyna 6 would generally be enough for me… I just wish it had, or had the means to attach, shock cord webbing to hold a jacket, as fall is my preferred season. The Salomon wins there.
