I couldn’t wait to pick this hydration vest at my REI store. It was everything I had hoped for and more. I didn’t want a bladder and therefore am able to use the space as a backpack. I have my two water pouches on either side of my chest and can carry my cell phone, a snack, my keys, Kleenex, and even a light shirt to change into. The best investment for my runs and hikes. I highly recommend this vest by Salomon.

Cannot Cut Straws as Advertised

As other reviewers mention, the straws that come with the flasks are annoyingly long. Salomon has an instructional video on how to cut them that makes it look way easier than it is. I couldn’t even get the plastic pieces off the ends - neither could my boyfriend, nor my local Salomon shop dealer. I asked Salomon if I could exchange the vest for a unisex version and they said no, because I had already unwrapped the straws. They did send me new straws, but I had the same issue with those ones. Salomon then told me “there is nothing more we can do, as this is not a problem and we have never had any problems with cutting the straws.” So I would strongly advise against buying this vest unless you want super long straws slapping you in the face while you run.

Great hydration vest but seems a bit small

I really appreciate that the vest comes with 2 flexible hydration flasks. There is also an insulated bladder pouch in the back (though it does not come with the bladder itself). I am always afraid of dropping my keys or phone while on a run and the zipper pockets really gives me a peace of mind. Overall highly functional and I'm looking forward to using it on longer run days!It is quite tight fitting but it probably isn't meant for the user to wear anything more than a long sleeve shirt underneath.

I wore this vest trail running 100+ miles in the alps over the summer. I really wanted to like it but these were the issues:- Terrible chaffing around the neck and torso, while I know this can happen with vests, this material was particularly rough and dug in- I put my phone on the front pocket and the mesh tore easily and there's a hole, mesh fell apart quickly- It absorbs smell, an issue I don't have on other packs, even after one wear.- I couldn't get the straw off the spout to adjust the length. I tried to the point of blistering my hand trying to get it off, trying to get help from others, they also could not get the straw off, very frustrating.- Traps sweat like crazy all around the torso, my shirt gets so soaked quickly from this vest, another issue ... MoreI wore this vest trail running 100+ miles in the alps over the summer. Bought this to start running ultras. Went out for a run to test this gear out, and the gear left my awareness / disappeared, and I felt so good myself, that I just kept running and completed my first first one!I didn't put a lot of thought into sizing. I wear a medium T shirt, so I ordered that size. Some reviews & reviewers say this creeps up on your neck. If you find that to be the case, loosen the upper elastic closure on the front. Heck with it.There are a lot of cheaper options out there, but given how long I intend to have this, buying cheaper wasn't a good idea. There's so little bounce to everything, even full. I brought layers in case I got stranded out, headlight, water, snacks, cell, rain gear, etc. It felt a lot heavier in my hand than it did wearing it.

Not as described
3 March 2023

Received this product and not as advertised. Vest came with regular flasks, not the triangular ones that are women’s specific. Also flasks do not have the straw attachment as described in the product description and shown in product photo. Other than being completely mislabeled the vest itself fits nice. Material is soft.

Not for me.

Unfortunately, I did not love this product as much as I’d hoped to, but I know most adore it, so take my review with a grain of salt. I also am generally not a trail runner (though I have), mostly walking and hiking, and my water needs are much greater than most.My reason for purchasing was that I needed more carrying capacity than my Osprey Dyna 6 could provide. As someone who goes through a lot of water, I need both the bottles and the hydration bladder. Removing and inserting the hydration reservoir is much too fiddly for my liking, but I should have realized that from the product video. You must use the Salomon 1.5 L as well, which wasn’t specified (Osprey’s 1.5 L will not work, despite both being made by Hydrapak). I also really missed the magnetic bite valve ... MoreUnfortunately, I did not love this product as much as I’d hoped to, but I know most adore it, so take my review with a grain of salt. You must use the Salomon 1.5 L as well, which wasn’t specified (Osprey’s 1.5 L will not work, despite both being made by Hydrapak). I also really missed the magnetic bite valve attachment from the Osprey. Also, while the pockets are large to increase carrying capacity, it can be a bit annoying depending on what you are trying to carry. In the Osprey Dyna 6, there is a zippered phone pocket that fits my phone well and keeps it in place (have not tried that vest with front bottles, though). In the Salomon Adv Skin 12, my phone is always trying to run down to my side. The same for other items in the other front pockets… I sometimes end up with a collection of items that have migrated to my lower back. Finally, the mesh is very abrasive feeling. Tank tops were a no-go.I do really like the pocket at the top on the main body. In my case, I stash my Therm-a-Rest self-inflating seating pad in there, and can easily remove and replace it without removing the pack. I’m sure it would be great for gloves and a toque.I could probably adapt to the pocket situation over time. I have seen reviews that mention it took others a fair amount of trial and error. For me, because of my hydration needs, I will stick with my Osprey Dyna 6, and I have finally found a sufficiently supportive daypack that will meet my needs when walking or hiking and needing that capacity. If I do return to trail running, my distance would generally be 10k, so the Osprey Dyna 6 would generally be enough for me… I just wish it had, or had the means to attach, shock cord webbing to hold a jacket, as fall is my preferred season. The Salomon wins there.

Women's water vest - a win!
16 July 2024

I have done a couple of long runs in this. It is very, very comfortable. I am able to carry my water and gels along with my phone.Don't have much else for it yet.My only issue was the work involved in getting the straws cut. I wasn't strong enough to take the tops off but eventually my husband was able to do so. Needed to cut almost 2 1/2 inches off the tubes. But the videos on You Tube were great from Solomon.

hope it isn't design flaw
3 July 2023

The bite valves on the flasks gush out water--why is there no stopper on them? absolutely useless if I can't run without liquid gushing everywhere. The vest fits well--and I love all the pockets. It was really difficult to put in my hydration pack the salomon instructional video was pretty useless--maybe if they use a vest that isn't black so you could actually see. Finally found another video that was more helpful.I hope the water bottles is a manufacturer problem and not a design flaw. Haven't even tried to cut the straws yet because of the valve issue. I googled til my brain hurt to try to find answers.

love this! regret not using it earlier
31 March 2024

I bought this a few months ago, but had a bunch of races coming up so didn’t want to switch out my current set up. I wore it today on an 8.5mile run. It was so comfortable. It didn’t slosh around or bounce around at all. I did wear it with a short sleeve shirt rather than my normal tank top, so will report back if any issues arise with chaffing. To cut the straws, I watched the video and tried to follow their advice. It didn’t quite work. What worked for me was putting the ends in hot water, cutting the right length, and then slicing carefully with a knife. I needed to heat the straw back up to put the end back on. But the second one was easy to do.
