I bought these Speedcross 3 shoes for myself and my son for Christmas and they are awesome. The fit is great and the traction on non-smooth, dry surfaces is fantastic. Oddly enough though, the traction on smooth surfaces when wet is horrible. They slip and slide everywhere.Since I'm mostly wearing these for gym workouts on non-smooth surfaces indoors, it makes little difference to me.

I have been a great fan of Salomon shoes for the past seven years, I own twelve pairs and have even done a 100K non-stop walk in a pair of XA Pro hiking shoes. I have always bought size 9½ standard width, but lately found that the last two pairs I bought came up somewhat narrow and needed stretching. For these Speedcross 3 Gradient shoes I decided to go up a half size to size 10 but they are incredibly narrow, even in the larger size. It felt like my feet were in a vice and just a short time wearing them indoors was enough! Don't know why Salamon shoes have become so narrow these days, the 'wider' sizes are very limited to one or two models of shoe and are only available in one dull colour (brown or black). These Speedcross shoes also feel more cheaply constructed ... MoreI have been a great fan of Salomon shoes for the past seven years, I own twelve pairs and have even done a 100K non-stop walk in a pair of XA Pro hiking shoes. Salomon - please consider 1. making the standard width more accomodating, and 2. if you are offering wider widths, make them available for multiple different shoes and in bright interesting colours rather than just one muted colour.

The shoes have arrived and they are beautiful. There’s only one problem. The left shoe has an uncomfortable hard lump inside it, on the instep. I wore the shoes around the house and went up and down stairs on them a few times but the lump presses on my foot. I took a photo where you can see the distortion in the shoe.I’m disappointed because I really like Salomons, and I bought a pair in the past which I wore to pieces. But these are unwearable. I will arrange to return them.

I finally had a chance to try these out, as I just ran out of my hoarded series of Salomon Speedcross Varios (from way back). These fit well, were comfortable and did great on sandy and wet trail conditions. The slip laces held position well, and the pocket to hold it was easily accessible. I haven’t had a chance to race downhill to make sure that they protect my feet like Salomons normally do, but I perfectly expect they will. I will stock up.
For me, these shoes boil down to this: all show and no go. They're pretty, but couldn't do the businessSalomon confirmed prior to purchase that these shoes are patterned after the Speedcross 3. I ran trails in the original Speedcross 3 and it was those shoes that have kept me coming back. Through the 4s and now the 5s, I've never been disappointed. These shoes had a thinner, softer, and more flexible midsole and this ruined the shoe for me. Rocks hurt. Didn't feel like I could trust them on downhills. Felt dead on my feet.Recently, Salomon has taken to creating shoes for "street" wear. And that's cool, expanding the market. For me however, these were not up to snuff for legit single track technical trail running at 70" and 185lbs.I cleaned them up with some ... MoreFor me, these shoes boil down to this: all show and no go. I liked the way these looked is why I purchased them. I wore them one day for about 3 hours and could not believe how bad my feet hurt. The shoe is a lot more narrow than I thought. I have wore them twice since and had the same outcome. I am not sure if these shoes would be good for people with much more narrow feet or not. Wish I could return them, but I have already wore them. I still love Salomaon shoes, just not these.
Replacement mountain shoe for my XA Pro 3D Goretex. No comparison. Loved the concept of the XA but mid sole needed more strengthening. The Speedcross ticks all boxes. Fits like a glove where the XA has a little to much float and the next size down is to tight.Shoes holds your foot secure and toe box is perfect with no cramping or movement.Mid sole is firm and takes on small boulders and rocks with ease and with no pressure on the sole of your foot.Grip. Tons of grip. Snow, shale, rocks and moorlands perfect for all.Purchased a pair previous to the XA. The speed cross will now be my go to shoe for all terrain.
I have worn Salomon’s clothes and shoes for about 15 years. Last year went through two pair speedcross 5 which I found poor quality. They fell apart about 300 Km. Found out the company switched hands …-ahhh.. that’s why..needed to have a shoe for this ultra and haven’t had any luck switching brands so I bought these. Felt great for 50 Km then I found them rubbing on my small toe and turning red. Not sure if it is me or the shoe. They do have great gripping on mud and any type of surfaceThey awere comfortable but obviously the new company has changed the speedcross and not to the better in my opinion. Wish it never changed hands.
Some people's lemons are another's lemonade, and the speedcross line (minus the 5) is just that - it's a narrow precision trail instrument perfect for narrow and low volume feet. This shoe holds everything in place perfectly and provides prompt response and solid trail feel. Unfortunately people complain about how narrow they are, BUT please don't and instead buy one of the other hundreds of shoes out there that are roomier! Most shoes are for normal/wider feet and it took me years and thousands of dollars to find a shoe that fit me this well. I've logged thousands of miles in the speedcross 1-4 and unfortunately, the 5 seems to have responded consumer complaints and it fits more like a normal shoe. For me, that's a very very very sad thing. For me, that's a very very very sad thing. Salomon, please keep the SpeedCross for us with narrow feet and especially for people that want a tight fitting shoe - there are not that many out there (Also, I've got an extra navicular bone that needs the tight fit for support and these shoes have helped me trail run and avoid surgery for over a decade - I love this shoe).
The Speedcross 3 Gradient have served me very well in this break-in period. Arch support and comfortable cushion response in the sole are the first thing I got excited about. The style is aggressive and more technologically advanced looking than other trail runners. One thing that was a little difficult was obtaining secure footing on wet concrete, as it was a little slippery with the knobby bottoms.
