I bought this shoe for more than its intended purpose which is supposed to be trail running. I did want a shoe I could trail run in but I also wanted something more and I've definitely abused these shoes, wearing them daily while travelling for over a month and putting lots of kms on city sidewalks as well as on trails. They've generally been great and as promised for a trail shoe. No point in repeating Salomon's descriptors, they're pretty accurate and reasonable. The few things I might add are:- I like a shoe with no seams in the heel cup. Check. And the inner material in the heel cup has proven durable, and not worn through.- The synthetic material in the uppers (NON-Goretex model) is non-absorbent but fast drying. In rain and through puddles, the uppers did not absorb any moisture, Instead my socks got wet, but on the other hand both socks and uppers all dried very quickly!- I was a bit hesitant about the thin wiry laces and tightening system, and whether lace pressure would be distributed evenly over the top of the foot and stay tight. I was pleasantly surprised. It works. The shoes have also been pretty good as a general use shoe. The downside has been that the soft grippy soles, indeed good on trails, are quite soft for pavement and have worn down very rapidly in spots, in turn affecting the comfort. But that's mainly my abuse, not misrepresentation of the shoe. The soles are definitely ok for regular dirt, but not really suited for pavement or sidewalks. It's a bit less clear how they wear when used regularly on rocky surfaces.

Owned a few similar from Salomon. Now this pair, again with quicklace. The shoe is comfortable, sole is solid with good grip. However, the shoe has a bad choice of lacing system. The thin string which consists the lacing simply cuts through the fabric on top of the foot during normal waking. Both the lacing and the shoe fabrics are in constant friction and of course the thin lace simply slices a trench hole across the shoe like a saw. This is my maybe 4th Samolon with the same lacing system and same defect occurs each time. I deliberately don’t tie them tight and same thing happens. The thin lacing across the front also collects all the dust and like a barrier lines it across the shoe, while also digging the hole. The only solution to make them last when you buy these shoes is to cut and replace the lacing with normal shoe lace immediately. Salomon, please redo the lacing on this otherwise good show or this will be my last one now :(

Every single pair encountered the following pre-mature failure in both shoes well before the soles wore out. Without this loop in the lacing system, your foot slides more in the toe box causing increased likelihood of blisters…. an aggravation I am not looking forward to on my upcoming through hike. If any of the pairs of new shoes develop this failure on my hike, can I return them for warranty and get a new pair sent to me? I like the shoes but hate having to deal with this failure mode. I can’t fix the loop and I can’t risk changing shoes at this point before my hike. Why can’t they be made with a plastic insert in this lace loop? I certainly hope this wasn’t planned to be manufactured obsolescence. Frustrated customer!

I have stupid feet that can't decide if they want to be flat or high arched. These shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have found and I work in an outdoor companies warehouse so I have tried on a lot. I have owned this model previously and I got close to two years. I then upgraded to the gortex version which was not as breathable and wore out after about a year. My hope is that these can hit the two year mark again.I can offer only a single negative: I love the quicklace system it is capable of being tight enough all day without constant adjustment and loosens immediately. After wearing my current pair for less than a month they have started creaking when I walk. If my last couple pairs are anything to go by the creaking will only get louder. I bought these because Solomon discontinued my previous favorite shoe the X Ultra 3 Low GTX hiker. I'm on my second pair of the older model but headed to Europe soon and wanted a new fresh pair for that trip. Solomon's fit my D width foot extremely well and they are comfortable and can be worn all day for knocking about or hiking in the Rocky Mountains or some other favorite Colorado location. So after a lot of research I found these that looked very similar, share the same lacing setup and similar tread. Not carried in my local store so I ordered online during the XXV sale. I was nervous because Solomon has added a wide size so I was thinking if they change the shoe that the regular might now be too narrow.Well it wasn't too narrow in fact they fit just like the ... MoreI bought these because Solomon discontinued my previous favorite shoe the X Ultra 3 Low GTX hiker. I haven't worn them that much because I'm saving them for my trip but I have enough experience with the brand that I know they are my new go to shoe for hiking. So happy I didn't have to look for another brand! The shoes are light, cool, durable, comfortable and good looking! The lacing system is a snap and hold the foot securely!
Every since I bought my first pair of Salomon Missions, I have been the brand's biggest cheerleader! I told everyone I knew that Salomon was the absolute best trail shoe, and I pointed many friends, as well as students, to the brand. I ran through many versions of the Mission, followed by years of the Speedcross and eventually the Supercross. I have been searching for a new Salomon shoe that looks, feels, and performs as amazing as all of my (too many to count) previous ones, and I can not find one. I am sooo bummed!! I have spent hours online searching for previous models of my favorite shoes, hoping to find some still out there, but I have come up empty. Strangely enough, I kinda feel like I've lost an old friend, ha! Unless, of course, you BRING BACK the classics.
I've worn numerous Salomon trail shoes, road shoes, hiking boots, ski boots for 23 years. Quality has always been good and fit has been reliable until the last year or so. Unfortunately the new XA Pro 3D V9 runs about a 1/2 size small. This is no problem for most-just order up a size. But for me and other bigfoots it's a problem. I wear a 13 medium. There is no 13.5 so I'd have to go up a full size. The 14 is too large so I'm out of luck. It's already a challenge to place these battleships on ledges, steps, rocks ,etc. Imagine adding 1/2" of space in front of your toes. Otherwise the V9 is more flexible than the V8 so needs no break-in. The lace garage is generous and easy to get the lace in vs previous versions and other models of Salomons. Can't say that it will stay in as I only walked around the living room for 90 seconds. Tread is standard Contagrip. Cushion feels moderate. Support is good w/ minor lateral twisting. But they are too short! I'm stocking up on earlier shoes and hoping that Salomon goes back to previous sizing or introduces a 13.5.
Man, was I stoked after i received the redesigned version of this shoe last year. I've been wearing previous models for years and years each with heavy use on rough terrain, walking, running, working, daily shoes, even working on construction area's was a pleasure with these previous models. This newer model, on the contrary to other's experiences, still fit great for me. However, the quality of the sole, waterproofing material and the shoe in overall went down like a comet hitting earth. I would easily use the previous models for 3 years before they start falling apart with the wide array of use described above. This newer model, without having it used the way as I did with previous models (as I decided to buy other shoes for those purposes), didn't last over 5 months, before the waterproofing failed, the sole started ripping and the profile started to degrade hugely already to a point I was used to see on the previous models, but then after using them for 2 years.Huge dissapointment and big "no" for shoes of this price category. Also a big let down, as these shoes used to be my favourite of all time and now I'll have to find new ones to replace them. Not buying these again unfortunately and I would definitely recommend others not to buy these either. Sorry Salomon, but you've lost a dedicated Xa 3d Pro Goretex Customer :(.
A performance shoe that takes a beating and looks good too. I use these in the gym, running on the trail, traveling, and casually. Though, mostly for workouts. The all black colorway goes with everything and the styling is sort of aggressive technical which I like. Gore Tex is a must because I like to wash these shoes regularly to keep them looking fresh and I don't want to wait for them to dry.I love the lace system. Now tying shoes seems like an outdated idea. On/off quickly. Annoying airport shoe removals are so fast. I wouldn't want to live without it.The fit of the previous version was better because it was a little wider. Since I wore a size 10 US in the old model, I also ordered my first pair of v8's in size 10 US. So, I ordered my second pair of v8's one half size up at 10.5 US and they feel great now. This was a big relief because I don't want to wear another shoe!I suppose the improvement that could be made is to return to the wider, more natural fit of the previous version.
Bought this for my xcountry trip with my teenager daughter 06/2023. Putting about 50 miles combination of red rock hiking and daily walk so far.1. The fit is solid.2. The quick lace system is convenience and glove fitting (the medial anchor is a bit weird but seem to be very functional)3. I specifically like the grip. Doing a lot of sand stone bouldering and this shoe grip is fantastic. stick like glue.4. the inner sole is comfortable even after 10 miles hard hike.5. I have the blue/yellow color. it seem flashy when new, but after a coat of dust, it looks rather cool ;-)Mine is not Gore-Tex version and have not get it it wet yet. so no review on that.Overall, it is a well made and comfortable shoe for light to moderate hiking.
