I bought the V9 because I wanted a waterproof trail shoe for my true 2E feet. Because I had tried many shoes without satisfaction (Icebug and all of REI's offerings), I was willing to risk the V9 in spite of it having a quick-lacing system. After five months, this is what I have learned:++ The Quicklace is superb! I just pull (on the handle) and tuck (into the tongue pouch). I have also not experienced the dreaded big toe pressure (where the lace crosses above the big toe) that others have reported with other quick-lacing designs.+ Good balance between protection and feedback from the outer sole- Contagrip is so-so on wet wood/roots- Heel fit is modest. The sensation is of my heels pulling out a mm or two before every step. I'm used to a near-perfect fit ... MoreI bought the V9 because I wanted a waterproof trail shoe for my true 2E feet. The V9's heel fit reminds me of the fit with hiking boots, but slightly better. I suspect that the close fit in the forefoot (see the next section) exacerbates the sensation that my heels are pulling out.-- This is not a 2E out of the box. I'd rate it a does-not-exist 1E. Even though I expect any new shoe's upper to stretch to fit, my other 2Es (Nike and New Balance) conformed more closely to my feet out of the box.I don't regret buying the V9. It certainly is the best of all the waterproof 2E shoes I tried. I just hope that it's built to be durable in terms of continuing to be waterproof and that the glued parts stay glued.

I'm 68 and hike Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, AZ every day for well over twelve years straight. I hike it twice, my FitBit showing a total of 2400' gained and 6.5 miles. The rock trail has destroyed or delaminated every lesser brand. The XA Pro doesn't just hold up better than any other boot, it also sticks better to the 70+ degree angles and sharp exposed edges. The Sense Ride 5 sticks just as well, and I wear those on lighter trails, but Camelback has many points where squeezing your toes into crevices is required and the XA Pro has thicker sides and toes.A group of regulars convenes for sunrise every morning. This is my third or fourth pair of these shoes. I always get the green color, but they keep changing the color options that are available. At first I bought the white/silver ones and I did not like them when they arrived. So I returned them and ordered the ones appeared to be greenish. They arrived and they are the color of cat puke. I really want to return them but Im just sick of shoe shopping. I used to wear my previous green pairs everyday. I will only wear these cat puke shoes when I’m running, I will not wear them in public. Solomon: the green ones were a hit. I saw tons of people wearing them all the time. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Nobody wants to wear this cat puke color.

I was apprehensive at first about purchasing these hiking shoes because I've only worn Oboz in the past. Oboz was the only manufacturer making wide hiking shoes but I was happy to see other brands are now doing the same. Solomon is a quality name brand, so I pulled the trigger when they were on sale. They are true to size and the materials are top notch. I've only wore them a few times and haven't put any serious miles on them yet. But I'm happy with the fit with very little break in needed. The only complaint is the online pictures made the tan color version look more olive green. But other than that, they should be able give me many years/miles of use.
I bought these approximately 7 years ago and they are my goto summer hiking shoe for the moderate to light terrain mountain trails. I also have spent many-a-day around the town wearing these and have been comfortable the entire time no matter the condition; the dry grip is 100%, wet grip or stream crossing wet rocks I'd say ~85%. The outside of the shoe is amazing and in great condition. The area that broke down on me from wear was not the outside but the heel box inside primarily the left and right side of the heel. (it is worn down to the hard plastic shell of the heel box so I am looking at replacement of them.) Overall well worth the cost to be able to get over 7 good strong years out of them using them as both a goto summer hiker as well as a goto city shoe ... MoreI bought these approximately 7 years ago and they are my goto summer hiking shoe for the moderate to light terrain mountain trails. I took advantage of the $129 sale price and bought a 10 and a 10.5 as my size can vary from shoe to shoe. One of my favorites is a 9.5 wide. Anyway, the 10.5 I felt that my ankle was always slipping—not good. I tried on with fresh Smartwool socks (sry) of differing types (hike/run); full crew vs ankle height; as well as padding (targeted, full, Light). The 10 was perfect for size but had a minor, yet concerning ‘defect’ on the outer sole where glued to the toe. There was a small indentation filled with glue—barely noticeable—but I thought would lead to or add additional stress when being stretched. I would have kept the 10s but instead tried a different pair—the Forsake trail shoe. I won’t elaborate but not my style—I should have kept the Salomon’s!
This shoe does just about everything right. Comfortable, easy to use, fast, clean, perfect fit after breaking. I use this shoe for everyday use to include workouts, running (rain, snow, trails), Navy O-course, sand. I’m an extremely athletic even at my age. Still in the Navy. Only slight issue I have is on solid surfaces damp or wet shoes are slippery and have to be careful. Wish this shoes came with option of smoother tight lines souls for traction.Bit expensive. Other than that this is my Go to shoe!
I bought these to replace my beloved, very comfortable Ultra 3. Unfortunately, these shoes have a narrower tip, meaning my big toe was squeezed despite the wide fitting. The shoe seemed to push my feet forward, creating a tight uncomfortable feel at the front while the back was flopping. These are very sturdy, perhaps a tad too much - absolutely no flexibility or shock absorption on the soles which felt like they were made of wood. Luckily, Salomon provided excellent, exemplary customer service and agreed to refund. The shoes are high quality, well made with excellent materials but really did not fit at all with my unique shape of feet and did not compare well in terms of comfort with the Ultra 3 which had a roomier toe box even in the standard fitting.
After having hiked only 40 miles on the Timberline trail in Oregon, holes started appearing in the creases of the outer fabric. After a total of 150 miles after doing the TMB, the proprietary shoe lace started to fall apart and cut into the shoe lace loops. I won’t be wearing these anymore and having spent $160 for a hiking/trail running shoe, I’m extremely disappointed. I have owned a lot of Salomon shoes, , including several X Ultra 3s that are still usable after 3 years/450 miles. When I first received the shoes, I had my reservations about the outer material as it’s stiff and not flexible in the areas that bend a lot and form creases. Never had a shoe fail like this on me.
