Fabulous Mic with a Special Benefit!

Ordinarily, I don't write reviews because I am too lazy. I must add my comments here because this mic has an advantage which is overlooked by others. I owe this to Samson for making a great product. Great sound and reliability Just get it!

Just get the Meteor Mic, and I will explain why this is important. I have so many mics, expensive setups, yet this unit stands on its own as the best because it is most dependable and reliable. Typically we rely on the headphone/mic jack to speak through our computer. I'm a broadcaster; my system has to work when I go live. At times, for whatever reason, the record settings and audio management gets screwed up for some reason that no one can explain. Aside from having great sound, this mic completely bypasses that whole-sometimes-annoying default system. This mic has its own pathway through your audio system that does not use your computer's audio jacks. This baby bypasses all of that and always--I mean always works flawlessly. Period.

Outstanding value in a USB mic, superior build quality

I use this USB mic for business and family during web conferencing sessions and also for amatuer audio recording with Garageband IOS. The price was right for my use case and the build quality with mostly metal parts is actually quite remarkable for the price. I was happy you had the version in black as the chrome version is a little bit too retro looking for my tastes. Sound quality is way above average for web purpose and is good enough for my sound recording purposes. Beats the heck out of any built in mic on my ipad or my smart phone. It comes with a nice long standard USB cable but you will need to buy adaptors, at a minimum, to use with IOS and Android products

Possible paperweight - next computer build will determine

Torn between 2 and 3 stars right now because this doesn't work. It initially shows up with a faint yellow LED when plugged in. Went thru the instructions on the Samson site about removing the hidden USB Composite device from the computer's Device Manager and trying again, and got it working...for a day. Then next reboot, same thing but no recovery.I do know my present computer has taken some USB controller damage and is pretty old (X99 motherboard based), so I'll withhold final judgement until I can complete my new build and try the microphone on that.It looks ok. Does that count?

Precisely What I Wanted At The Right Price Ahead Of Schedule!
29 August 2017

My assistant had searched on many sites for the all BLACK version of this very under-priced SAMSON USB Microphone with no success. I decided to explore myself, not only finding exactly what I wanted through ADORAMA -- but at lower cost and delivered in the blink of an eye -- very impressive indeed! I use this microphone in producing commercials, training videos, live-event teasers and my membership content at www.JoelBauer.com when I'm touring internationally. The microphone looks great on camera without up-staging the shot -- and sounds remarkable for the incredibly low investment required through ADORAMA. Many of my high-end consulting clients have raved about my sound and asked what I'm using -- expecting the solution would have a large price tag. Kudos to SAMSON and ADORAMA...https://vimeo.com/231624251In Gratitude,Joel Bauer, The Mentor's Mentorwww.JoelBauer.com

Really great mic for what it is
25 May 2020

Okay, this is obviously not the voiceover mic of your dreams. Nor should it be...it's not intended for that purpose. It's a USB mic, and a reasonably priced one as well. And for what it is, it's fabulous. If you want something really fantastic, you need to get out of the USB game and go for the really expensive mics. But this, for what it is, is a reliable, good sounding tank of a mic. And bonus...it's cute looking. :) *side note: it sounds better if you put it on a boom arm with a shock mount. Not NECESSARY, but it improves the quality of the sound quite a bit.

Still a great mic for its price
8 February 2022

Bought this mic about 3 years ago and still like it. Gives a crisp and balanced sound with just the right level of bass for my fairly deep voice. Can suffer from a bit of background hiss which can mostly be addressed by adjusting the gain and doing a touch of post-processing. You generally can't expect a USB mic to sound as good as a similarly-priced XLR model, but if you want the convenience of plug-and-play, the Meteor is still the boss of USB microphones at its price point (that's my opinion anyway from having watched dozens upon dozens of reviews). It also comes with a mute button and 3.5mm headphone monitoring jack, both of which some other 'budget' USB mics skimp on. Given that this is a condenser mic, keep in mind that it is *very* sensitive to background noise, so if you're going to use it for conference calls make sure you're in a quiet room. It's also worth noting that the legs can be removed (using small screwdrivers) for convenient mounting on a boom arm or stand, which I would recommended for quality tuning and eliminating echo.

The perfect all-rounder
3 May 2020

This is an amazing condenser mic for the price - there's a reason it's so popular. The stats speak for themselves (a very smooth 20hz-20khz frequency response, low impedance, large diaphragm, quality metal construction), and the result is one of the best microphones I've ever used. For recording voice it has a brilliant high frequency boost, but not so much that it makes recording other things problematic. I've even recorded brass with it and it sounds nice if you configure things properly. It's super-easy to set-up on PC (no drivers required) and the direct headphone output is also very handy! All in all you can't really get a better all-rounder mic for the price - would highly recommend.

Very well built (except for the talk/volume button)
2 January 2023

When I received this microphone, I was impressed with it's solid construction. That was until I turned it over, and the cheap plastic button for the talk/volume control actually fell out. I managed to find most of the pieces and reassemble the thing, but the tiny spring that made the button an actual toggle was lost. This means I have to apply quite a lot of pressure on the center button to get it to switch between transmitting and not. Kind of defeats the purpose of the mike in my opinion, considering I purchased it for easy use. The on/off/volume button doesn't stand up to the quality of the rest of the microphone, and that's a shame, because otherwise, it's an excellent product, but since the button falls out so easily, and doesn't actually behave as it should ... MoreWhen I received this microphone, I was impressed with it's solid construction. The on/off/volume button doesn't stand up to the quality of the rest of the microphone, and that's a shame, because otherwise, it's an excellent product, but since the button falls out so easily, and doesn't actually behave as it should after reassembly (again, because the tiny spring used to make the button click) got lost. This happened immediately after removing it from the box. I simply turned it over, and the button fell out. This shouldn't happen. The mike is a bit heavy, but I suspect that's because it's supposed to go onto a stand or sit by itself on the desk, it really isn't intended for handheld use, but that's how I use it, so it may be uncomfortably heavy for some.I would recommend this microphone to others, but I'd warn them about the shoddy construction of the button, just to ensure they don't suffer the same fate I did. Otherwise, it's a solid mike, and I like it for the most part.
