The build quality and controls for headphone volume are also a huge plus...but there is one other aspect of this mic that outshines EVERYTHING in its class, and that is the ease of use. This mic is the most adjustable volume wise in it's class, as it has plenty of headroom to get as loud or as soft as you want...and this is a big deal, as other usb mics sometimes are too quiet even when maxed out on your computers volume slider....this mic hits the mark of a great recording volume within seconds of plugging it in. To sum things up...there are no major drawbacks to this microphone. It is built well, simple to use, and can provide some great quality sound and noise rejection, and THAT..is what we all look for in a multi-purpose easy to transport handheld mic.

The audio monitoring is very clean, the sound quality is crisp and full, and I appreciate all the accessories that come with the mic which help make setting up very easy. It has a decent build quality although the headphones volume control buttons aren't very flush and just recessed in a bit (they work just fine though). If you're planning on using this on a Mac or via an audio interface, this is a solid mic. However, if you're planning on using it via USB on Windows, keep in mind the low volume input as that might be a deal breaker.

The first time I ever plugged this mic in on my computer, I was already expecting some calibrations to be done, as I am no stranger to microphones. The mic was too hot, causing distortion, even when speaking at 1 foot away. But, no issues here. Simply configure the mic type on your settings, speak ON AXIS and your computer will calibrate it properly and voila! No distortion, clipping. Speak as close as possible to the mic, on axis, and at a 45 degree angle (NOT 90!) directly pointing at the mouth, without letting your lips touch the mic. 1 is the ideal distance. The farther you place the mic from your mouth, the tinier the voice, and you also already lost 75% of the sound. And speaking far from it, the more noise pollution such as street noise, background noise etc. A mere 4 away is already a NO NO. With the mic close to you, the sound pressure is so great that the mic can't hear anything BUT your voice. All concerts you see, the singers speak close, resulting in a clean track, to mix clean. The ON-OFF switch is very quiet when you turn the mic on or off. No thud noise on your speakers or headphones. That alone is another plus. Now, as for the built-in headphone jack to monitor your recording, I have to agree with the other reviewer. It has delays / latency and it's impossible to speak on the mic while listening to your return in Real Time. That's the only reason I rated it 4 starts. I suggest using the original mic clip, as it fits better than the one that comes with the crane arm. A shock mount would be great, but I didn't expect it (though it's mentioned on the crane arm box, which can be misleading). The headphones are comfortable and do their job just fine. And I really appreciate the thought behind adding a USB extension cord and cord straps. It's my first mic setup, and I wouldn't think about these minor but important things. The pouch is really useful to store the equipment on the go and it is a quick insert of a USB to get it going and it is easily recognized by a Windows machine the sound quality is pretty good and I have the filter on top of it that is another piece that comes which is a foamy ball like object that you put on top of the metal I have left a little bit of room for it to have a little cushion on top. This helps with wind noise a little bit better rather than having it touching all the way down really tight against the metal. Overall it is a good microphone if you need something in a jam, and it has capabilities of expanding into a interface with XLR if necessary and other equipment. The power button does make a little bit of noise so whenever using that to mute might appear that that sound might come through. Go overall it is a really sturdy mic with volume controls at the bottom a power button and the ports along with a headphone jack where you could use to listen to your own recording voice or what have you. Overall not at all a bad purchase for the price.

Don't get TOO close, though: you don't want to overwhelm the mic, and while it does a surprisingly great job of handling plosives (which are like the "puh" sounds in the "Peter Piper" tongue twister) most of the time, you can still hear some popping if you get your mouth too close to it or speak really loudly, and the foam wind screen that it comes with doesn't seem to help much. So, if you're looking to use it for more professional-quality recording, you may want to buy a pop filter for it (they're not that expensive, you can even just look up a tutorial and make one yourself). Honestly, the only real issue I've had with it so far is that the mic holder on the tripod is a little too loose out of the box, so it keeps wanting to tilt back, and it's challenging to tighten (both sides need to be tightened with large screwdrivers at the same time, which is hard for one person to do). All in all, the Samson Q2U is an absolutely incredible mic for the money. I give it a 9.5/10.
I asked for an exchange because the first mic had a hardware issue where the sound captured was insanely quiet. And the second mic that arrived was better and I was able to work with it (it just needed a boost), but it starts to develop quite a lot of noise after a couple hours of use that not even filters can quiet down because it's so loud. I am not sure how long the noise lasts but I basically have to unplug the mic for a whole day so it gets bearable to work with it again. If I lower the volume of the mic to reduce the noise, nobody can hear me, if I boost it with another program you can very much hear the white noise (and sometimes clicking noise if I leave the mic plugged in for several hours that comes from the mic, changing cables doesn't work). Being a dynamic mic, it does a great job of reducing background noise. After adding noise reduction in OBS it went from great to excellent. The clarity of your voice really shines through.
