We'd had our old Samsonite suitcases for about ten years and they were starting to show their age, their fabric sides looking scuffed and frayed, and a couple of holes had started to appear, so it was time to get new ones. We liked the look, size, and weight of these, so bought two in our local John Lewis.Initial impressions were good. They look nice, with ribbed outer surfaces, and are extremely light, and the four wheels make them very manouverable. The cases unzip and open into two halves, the "top" side having fabric cover which zips up to make it self contained, and the "bottom" side has a Y-shaped strap which can be used to secure items. The case can expand a little, and the long zip toggles click into a TSA combination lock on the side.Problems started to arise after our first trip away with the cases. We both thought that the Y-shaped strap inside is a bit of a weird design decision as it only secures items down the middle of the case. Our previous cases had tw V-shaped straps, attached to the corners of the case, which clipped together in the middle forming an X which held things in more securely. This strap means that things down the sides move around a bit.Worse though was that after one flight they came back to us looking badly scufffed, revealing that the outer plastic surface isn't actually very sturdy at all. After the return flight the scuffing was worse, and when we collected the cases after our next trip the toggles on my wife's case were bent (maybe the case caught on something inside the airport baggage area, who knows) and had to be reshaped with pliers. After our next trip the toggles on mine came back bent with one of them snapped, meaning that it can no longer be locked. Yes, we could maybe return the cases to John Lewis, but this is wear and tear, and if the toggles were replaced they'd only get bent again. We thought that the long zip toggles were great at first as they're much easier to grab hold of to fasten and unfasten the cases, but they're actually a really bad design decision by Samsonite. We've now bought two small TSA combination padlocks and will be using those to lock the cases via the loops at the bottom of the zips when we go on our next trip, but needless to say after less than a year we're looking to buy new suitcases again. In short, they look nice, are very light and manoeverable, but they're not very sturdy and the zips are rubbish.

I'm sorry to say that we bought 3 of these this year and one medium sized case. After one use one of the cases came off the airport carrousel with the thread of the zips untangled and the cases open. We suspected foul play and gave it no thought. However the same happened on the return flight with a different case and again on another trip. John Lewis are usually great at sorting these things out but they were quite unhelpful and couldn't offer any support other than to contact Samsonite directly despite the cases being less than 6 months old. Samsonite didn't want to know either. I'm now stuck with 4 cases that I can't use having spent over £1000 on them.

This new cabin bag has replaced an old heavy cabin bag & has all the features that I wanted.4 wheels makes it easy to manoeuvre and it's light weight gives me more scope with packing and of course, easier lifting. The internal layout is convenient & well laid out. It allows me to keep heavier items like shoes and a toilet bag separate from clothing, to reduce creasing. The built in WIFI charging facility is very on trend and having a easy locking system gives added protection when travelling.I'm really pleased with my purchase and recommend it strongly.

This is a follow up review from my original. Having gone back to John Lewis and got absolutely nowhere - broken wheels, hole in stitching in two of our samsonite suitcases - I was told I was using the case incorrectly. However having since tried to use it "correctly" I have found it almost impossible to use. The advised correct use is to have it on 4-wheels at all times. Which is fine on flat/smooth surfaces such as airports but impossible on a lot of pavements or uneven surfaces. I was told I would then need to carry it over uneven surfaces by the sales manager at John Lewis. As an example of my journey today, I would have had to carry it more than half of my journey, which was on pavements and in a train station. I was told I would then need to carry it over uneven surfaces by the sales manager at John Lewis. As an example of my journey today, I would have had to carry it more than half of my journey, which was on pavements and in a train station. It is a suitcase on wheels, it's not meant to be carried in my opinion. It's also big and heavy and not practical to carry for long distances. The case also naturally tilts to two wheels on uneven surfaces - it's almost impossible to avoid that happening. It's fine if all you need to do is use it inside an airport but getting it to and from an airport is not practical. It's poorly designed in that way. I found it frustrating that John Lewis and Samsonite did not acknowledge this feedback. My husband and I just feel really disappointed in the whole experience. It was a lot of money to spend on something that has such poor functionality.
We needed to replace our old cabin case and we decided to go for Samsonite to get the quality we wanted. This one fitted the bill perfectly. It's well made but light to manoeuvre either on all four wheels when pushed or two when pulled along and the handle is comfortable. Good quality zips and fasteners with security lock. An added bonus is the ability to charge your phone but we haven't quite worked that out yet. Inside there are several compartments and pockets. Like most cases you can expand the capacity by undoing a zipper. We went for the blue colour which makes it a bit more stylish.
This is probably the worst suitcase I have ever purchased. The plastic is flimsy and thin, and flexes to the extent that items within the suitcase get damaged easily in transit. I've used it once on an international flight, and don't think I'll be using it again. I expected better from Samsonite. The positives are that it's large and light. However, since it can't even withstand a push against the plastic without giving way, the size or having an allegedly hard suitcase becomes completely pointless.
Bought 2 of these luggages and we love them for being super lightweight when we travelled to US.But we were really disappointed to find that the zipper had given way at the beginning of our trip and some of our belongings spilled out onto the luggage carousel at LAX! But it also made us feel uneasy and wondering if we will be able to lock our luggage should we need to open it to add or retrieve an item at the airport! This experience left us really unimpressed with Samsonite’s quality. We’ve been a long time customer of Samsonite as it was a brand namr that we had trusted. And perhaps it’s time we look to other brands.
I purchased 2x Samsonite Upscape 81cm Spinner EXP in Blue Nights for upcoming travels. The suitcases are perfect - everything you'd want. They are lightweight, reliable, sturdy, built well, the two-way zippers are smooth and easy to use, and the luggage size is perfect for long, overseas trips. FOr peace of mind, the luggage has a TSA lock which is great. The internal space of the luggage is spacious and well designed and bonus - the interior lining is washable which is great for maintaining the suitcases. This suitcase ticks all the boxes - highly recommend.
I bought full set 55cm, 75cm and 81cm to replace previous 10 year old luggage. Bought at sale price. Best features are the stylish look, the deep green colour, light weight (full kg less than my last Samsonites and I can feel it) and ease of wheel movement even when my bag was 28kg full for travel to family for Christmas. A feature I hope will prove in time is previous plastic hinges which broke on old model has been replaced with generous band of elastic. Two detractors, which still wouldn’t stop me from buying are inside pockets are large, there is no small pocket to separate and secure small item and the unique ripple effect on exterior does scuff in airport luggage handling although this is minimised somewhat by the darker colour. Overall loving my luggage upgrade.
Very nice carry-on suitcase. I chose it for its low weight and I was glad I did. Lifting it above my head to put it in the overhead locker was a breeze. It’s capacious. For my first trip, I packed spare clothes, a down jacket to wear on arrival, toiletries, medication, charging cables and other sundries in the pockets. It was still half empty (and not extended). Very manoeuvrable thanks to the four wheels. Also has a combination lock and some charging cables. I got it on special. Their other suitcases are also good so if you find one on special, get that.
