This SSD shipped with a firmware bug that results in significant performance and lifetime degradation from normal usage - the firmware update 1B2QJXD7 (or newer) needs to be installed manually from Samsung's website, which prevents further deterioration but does not restore SSD performance.I've had this SSD for several months and with <2TB written, SMART data already shows 6% lifetime usage. For reference, a several-year-old 970 drive with 25TB written shows only 2% usage. Boot times and subjective performance were excellent for the first few weeks but now seem no better than the OEM 980 Pro this replaced.

You just can't go wrong with this SSD. I added this as my second drive in my laptop and once installed you wouldn't even know it's there, I can load or save large files without any waiting (or so it seems). It may be a little more expensive than other SSD's of the same size, but I guess that's the quality aspect of the product. The online purchase was delivered super quick, with great communication and well packaged. Thanks PBTech.

**1TB Version** This generation, Samsung used 3-bit TLC flash instead of the 2-bit MLC used on the 970 Pro. This still results in superior IOPS, Read/Writes. I did three runs back to back for a quick torture test and the results are pretty close to what was advertised other than the IOPS. Those were underwhelming compared to Samsung's claims of 1000k versus the 700k achieved. Premium price aside, I would suggest this to anyone moving lots of data around frequently and/or want the latest and greatest Samsung has to offer in the Gen. 4 NVME space. Alternatively, the 970 Evo Plus is excellent for those looking for a less expensive but well performing Gen. 3 NVME. Can't go wrong with either. Callum's review of Samsung 990 PRO MZ-V9P2T0BW - SSD - 2 TB - PCIe 4.0 x4 (NVMe)
12 December 2022

Pros: Unrivalled read/write speeds.CDM recorded speeds of 7446.66(mb/s) Read and 6817.26(mb/s) Write via PCIe 4.0.Cons: Price to performance is not worth it for most users. Can get quite toasty, I’ve noticed temps reach as high as 60+ Degrees Celsius, compare that to my 980 which rarely exceeds 33 Degrees. I’ve actually had to remove the m.2 cover from my motherboard to help with temps though this slightly ruins aesthetics of the build.

Dmytro's review of SAMSUNG 990 PRO M.2 Internal SSD - 1 TB
22 May 2023

Pros: It's fast. Really fast and reliable.Cons: It's quite too fast for the needs of a regular user. Could be useful for someone who transfers massive data chunks very frequently, but for casual routine usage it's quite a pointless overpayment.

Easy PS5 Install and FAST!
22 June 2023

I was looking to add some storage space to my new PS5, and this product had many recommendations. I've used several Samsung products in the past, so I have expectations on performance. This installed easily in my PS5, and formatted with no issue. The PS5 benchmarked the read performance at ~6800MBps, which is close to what I expected and more than makes me happy with this purchase. That performance is over 20% faster than the internal SSD of the PS5. The drive had 2.01GB available after formatting for more games. Great purchase!

Good reliable SSD and one of the fastest. But the "cloning software" stinks.
21 November 2022

This has the right numbers for read and write speed, about the fastest you can get for the price. I've bought 8 or 10 Samsung SSD's, they are reliable and never had one fail. The SSD itself is great, the excuse for "cloning software" they have is a disgrace, you have to use something like Macrium Reflect instead. Please get with it, Samsung, your cloning software stinks!

Good tech, terrible customer service from Samsung.

Brilliant piece of tech, very fast and easily installed, came with updated bios so issues of the past are no longer. The only criticism that i have is the cash back. Samsung are an absolute nightmare to deal with. They intentionally make the process of getting the cash back extraordinarily difficult. At one point they deleted my application/claim from their site (i had two, they did this twice) and i had to contact customer services to get it sorted. Again, im pretty sure this is done on purpose to stop people using cash back offers. disgusting service from a company trying to claw back their reputation.Still the drive itself is good, just a shame about the company making it. Solid drive, needs firmware update right away
3 June 2023

Performance is excellent, but the drives are still shipping with high wear rate firmware (0B2QJXD7) so the first thing you want to do is update the firmware. Samsung's software is a mixed bag: firstly, the current version of Magician does not start unless you run it with "-no-sandbox". Magician will let you clone your boot disk (yay!), but does not currently have any firmware updates so you need to go to Samsung's support site and find the standalone USB flashable firmware update.Although there were some issues with Magician, it is much better than other NVME drives I've bought recently where the software has flat out refused to clone the boot disk (Kingston and Corsair).

Top Gun
11 June 2023

The Samsung 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe M2.0 SSD is very fast. As I write this it is I believe the fastest drive out there on PCIe 4.0 interface. There probably won’t be a faster SSD until PCIe 5.0 arrives so it’s good to know it can’t be beaten. Is it worth the cost? I think so because when I cloned my Win 11 source disk to it with Samsung data migration it made very short work of it, just zipping through, and we can expect PCIe 5.0. drives to be very expensive. It gets hot and needs a heatsink, fortunately for me my MSI board has them. It depends on your budget and how much you value speed.
