Lastly I would like to inform you that for a user like myself and many others the option of Gemini vs Google Assisant or Which default assistant to use is very hard to decide as I feel I have no incline on which one I should be using. So happy I bought this phone, as a long time user of Samsungs in the past a few years ago I thought I would try another brand as the specs looked great, big mistake and so glad to finally be back on a Samsung. As soon as I received the phone and had it in my hand and used it I knew the build quality has not gone downhill at all but actually improved, full metal making it feel very sturdy and durable. It is a great size screen (handy for someone with aging eyes like myself lol).I wasn't looking forward to spending time transferring everything from my old phone but I didn't need to worry. As soon as I switched the phone on and it started the setup it asked if I wanted to transfer my data from my old phone, simply connected the old and new phone using a lightning to C-USB cable and away it went and transferred everything I told it to, pictures, videos, sms, contacts, app including Whatsapp and Line etc (Could have used Wifi or Bluetooth instead of cable).A week later I am still so happy for getting the S23 FE, I continue to notice the differences between my old Samsung S10 and my previous phone and the new S23 - The screen quality is so much better it is clearer, crisper and has a more true colour, noticeable when watching TV/Films or looking at high quality photos. The speed of opening, switching and running apps is so much faster and smoother and mobile games I play (such as Kings of Avalon) open much faster and the sensitivity and scrolling speed is much better. One of the reasons I switched to my old phone was because of the specs of its cameras and the photo and video quality, they looked impressive and that the photos would be spectacular, well they weren't ! No matter what settings I tried and the conditions they always looked pretty dull and zooming in became very grainy. The first pics I took on the S23 without making any adjustments to the settings was much better, brighter, clearer, more depth to the photo and I could zoom in a lot further before it started to get grainy!Sound - the sound on the old phone can be pretty quiet and soft, and even at full volume it could be hard to hear in a big room, thankfully the sound on the S23 is much louder (without loosing any quality) so another thumbs up.If like me (used to) you made your choice on impressive looking specs STOP ! The S23 FE has slightly lower specs - but still pulls a punch at a 3rd of the cost.

Built to last.

Galaxy S24 FE: A Budget-Friendly Powerhouse!

Unboxing the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE was a smooth and enjoyable experience. The packaging was clean and thoughtfully arranged, with the phone neatly presented alongside the included USB-C cable and SIM ejector tool. The overall unboxing experience had a polished, premium feel.Once I powered on the phone, the first thing that caught my eye was the stunning 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display, a usual Samsung excellence. Whether I’m watching a movie or switching between apps, the display truly shines. The design of the S24 FE looks sleek and modern. It feels lightweight in hand, yet sturdy. I also love the matte finish on the back, which not only adds a touch of elegance but also resists fingerprints, which is pretty common is high end phones nowadays. The camera system is one of the highlights of this phone within this price range. The 50MP main camera captures beautiful, detailed shots in most lighting conditions. I found the ultra-wide and zoom lenses fun to experiment with as well. However, in low-light conditions, the camera struggles slightly to maintain the same level of clarity and detail.Performance has been smooth overall, with the phone easily handling multitasking and even more demanding apps and games. The battery life is solid, lasting me through a day of moderate use. My only real gripe is with the charging speed—it could be faster, and Samsung should start exploring faster charging speeds at this point. However, there are a few minor drawbacks. The lack of expandable storage can be limiting in my experience as I have previously had to resort to SD cards to supplement my expanding memory needs. However, this is subjective and a larger storage model can be purchased to alleviate this issue.Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE seems to provide an excellent blend of performance, design, and camera quality in my experience. I am eager to find out how the phone performs as I load it up with contents, ranging from apps to media contents and see how it performs in a long term regular usage scenario.

There was some concerned over the change from the previous generation which used the Snapdragon but the Exynos has proven more than capable. It's handling intensive tasks such as gaming or splitscreen apps with no lag.The camera quality is above the average and performs well in most lighting conditions. The main camera delivers sharp images, and while the telephoto isn't perfect, it's a valuable feature compared to the typical digital zoom. The AI features are incredibly convenient and allows optimization of images for various scenarios.Battery performance so far has been excellent and is one of its standout features. Using the 'light' performance profile has also shown impressive results, with no noticeable drop in performance. It easily lasts through a full day of use without needing a top-up, and fast charging is convenient for those times where you need a quick boost.Overall, the S24 FE has delivered a well-rounded experience and is proving to be a solid phone I can see myself using long term. Its reliable performance, excellent battery life, and above-average camera make it a strong contender among mid-range smartphones.

I miss some features from my last phone.
3 August 2024

Little over a week into owning the S24 and so far it seems like a decent phone. I really miss two features my last phone had and they are chop to turn on flashlight and rock to turn on camera. I thought this was an Android thing but apparently is was just a Motorola feature. Some bad things about this phone is that I tried wireless charging on a charge station(not a Samsung brand) and I fell asleep for about an hour and woke up to a phone that I could almost fry and egg on, luckily it didn't seem to cause any ill affects to the phone. Also, one can't really use it while it is charging because it overheats bigtime, even when using a lower watt(less than 10w) charger. My last phone would get warm but not this hot. The reason I bought this phone was my previous phone ... MoreLittle over a week into owning the S24 and so far it seems like a decent phone. Also, one can't really use it while it is charging because it overheats bigtime, even when using a lower watt(less than 10w) charger. My last phone would get warm but not this hot. The reason I bought this phone was my previous phone that is about 2 years old the battery was getting weak and needed to be charged twice a day. This phone the battery isn't much better because of the capacity, last one was 5000mah and this is 4000mah. If I play a game on this phone for about a hour or so it will eat up half the battery, it's a puzzle game and didn't think it would stress the battery on this phone that much, I could have just as well stuck with the old phone for a while longer.I saw reviews of the how the screen colors don't look good, after I did some changes the screen colors look great. I even have to turn the brightness down to less than half during the day but this is inside. I have yet to try it outside in the sunlight, even my last phone I couldn't see the screen on full brightness but I think with the brightness level this has I think I should be able to see it.Not really impressed with a number of the Samsung apps, most of the normal apps I use such as phone, message, clock, photos, even the keyboard I switch to Google. Really disappointed that the phone app didn't have a built in visual voicemail feature, I even switched it out for Google Phone and for some reason the option to turn on visual voicemail is greyed out and locked. This phone uses a separate voicemail app.So far I am pleased enough not to return it. Just disappointed in the features my last phone had that this one doesn't, and this one was triple the cost.

The Galaxy S23 FE has most of the components (wireless charging, IP68, 120hz AMOLED screen, solid cameras, big battery, reasonable styling) required to reach the heights achieved in the now-classic Galaxy S20 FE, but lacks the most crucial part of why that was so exceptional (at least here in the UK) and ironically highlights again why the S20 FE was so special - the Exynos based SOC.The S20 FE was *SO* good in the UK market because it brought the Snapdragon 865 SOC to an affordable local phone in a generation where the Exynos processor was significantly worse than the SD counterpart. Which was also the case for the S22 generation from which the S23 FE gets its SOC.I have upgraded from a 3.5 year old Galaxy S20+ 5G which I got imported in order to get the Snapdragon 865 based model. Honestly, the S23 FE feels like a direct side-grade in all ways; performance is not noticeably different (perhaps a touch snappier here and there), I've got less RAM, and the battery life on my brand new Exynos based S23 FE is basically identical to where my 3.5 year old Snapdragon based S20+ 5G - I get the same screen-on time as a 3.5 year old phone battery, after 3.5 years of fairly heavy usage. It's just really bad, and shouldn't have happened. This is a lesson already learned many times over for Samsung, and a message reiterated by countless reviewers and tech-influences across social media; the Exynos chips just are not good enough for the top end, especially when some of the international markets (US, China, etc) get a Snapdragon SOC for the exact same phone. The phone performs fine, but the CPU gets hotter than it should doing simple tasks, and burns through battery faster than it should doing them too. I would happily take a core-sheduler update that left the SOC in lower power states (less performance) more often to maximise battery . The phone is fine in basically every capacity except for SOC efficiency. If they had just put the S23's Snapdragon 8 Gen2 into the phone just like what happened with the S20 FE getting the Snapdragon 865 - even if it cost £50 more which I would gladly have paid - then the S23 FE would have been a worthy successor to that classic model.Unfortunately the dark cloud of poor-quality Exynos SOCs is *STILL* affecting Samsung's global high-end phone SKUs. I wanted it to be otherwise, and was happy to try given the good deal I got on the phone plan, but it's patently clear to me that this will be just a 2 year phone and then I'm going to switch, which is a shame given the software updates promised etc. If the phone had the performance of the S23 with the Snapdragon, then I would likely have kept it for 3.5-4 years, as I do when I'm really happy with my phone.3/5 ... but it would have been 4.5/5 if it had a Snapdragon SOC.

Premium phone at a sub-premium price
8 January 2024

Samsung has given the S23 series the FE treatment, which typically means some mid-year tweaks to the series resulting in enough changes to allow a lower price-point without making too many compromises. The first thing I noticed when picking up my 256GB model in white, was the weight. At over 200g, this is not a light phone... but as I discovered, a lot of that must be to do with the fact that this phone lasts all day on a full charge thanks to its generous battery. And while using the phone, I really came to appreciate the display. At around 6.5 inches, it feels just right in terms of size, while being really bright and crisp. Photos and videos I took using the phone's capable array of cameras looked really colourful on the screen and the experience was not short ... MoreSamsung has given the S23 series the FE treatment, which typically means some mid-year tweaks to the series resulting in enough changes to allow a lower price-point without making too many compromises. The first thing I noticed when picking up my 256GB model in white, was the weight. At around 6.5 inches, it feels just right in terms of size, while being really bright and crisp. Photos and videos I took using the phone's capable array of cameras looked really colourful on the screen and the experience was not short of premium. If I have one criticism, it is that the selfie camera is not as good as the ones on the back - especially when taking group selfies.Other than capturing memories, the phone also copes with other tasks without any issue. The performance is snappy, even when doing more than one thing at a time like listening to music while browsing or chatting with friends, or while playing games. I didn't feel like I needed to close any apps that were running in the background or that the phone was slow or laggy in any way. And the 256GB of storage meant I never had to worry about the number of apps or games I had installed. The S23 FE managed to connect to the various wearables I use (my earbuds, headphones and watch) and my car's Android Auto without any issues and I never experienced any issues when using associated features. Charging it up was fast and wireless charging worked perfectly, including reverse-charging which I used for my Buds FE. And this was true despite the case I had it in (and I would recommend a case given the slippery glass back!).Overall then, Samsung has succeeded in its objective of giving the S23 series a good send-off. The S23 FE is a phone that looks and feels premium, runs like a premium phone but does not cost the near £1000 most premium phones cost these days. I would say it is a smart purchase for anyone in the market for a phone just now.

Surprisingly Impressive and Affordable end of 2023

I was pleasantly surprised by the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE – a fantastic phone offering great value for money, as some have said they raid the parts bin and with the UK model made great flagship like the phone for a bargain price considering all the deals and offers flying around. It has a stunning flat screen (which I much prefer), which is vivid and bright, thanks to it being a 6.4-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate AMOLED screen; the only difference you can see compared to the latest flagship S23 is the bezel, which is not an issue for me. The panel can also still display HDR content, which looks great on YouTube and Netflix.Dual SIM for a UK phone is also rare and a real must for me as I travel a lot for work. It has always ruled out mainstream smartphones due to the lack of this feature, so getting this fan edition S23 to include this feature was a massive plus.Great software using Samsung Extended update and software support forIn the UK, Samsung is also giving you a three-year extended warranty and long-term software support (, which looks genuine, as I have already had two software updates since writing this review. One bonus thing I had missed with previous less popular brands is the accessory ecosystem, as you get a broad third-party market of high-quality cases and screen protectors. Also, the ecosystem Samsung has for “Good Look” means you get tons of software options to change your phone's look and feel inside as well!Over the holidays, I have also been very impressed the battery has held out, and it has taken great shots of the family in all settings. It has been my go-to phone throughout.Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is a great phone with many features for its price. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of Samsung’s flagship phones, it’s still a fantastic option for anyone looking for a high-quality phone that won’t break the bank.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FEI have to say at that start of this review I am a Samsung fan a big Samsung fan. Nestled between the Samsung A54 and the standard S23, this device proudly boasts 8GB RAM and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 engine, initially featured in the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It successfully strikes a balance, catering to both the mature and youthful audience with an array of colors – mint, indigo blue, purple, or tangerine for the bold, and cream or graphite for those inclined towards a more subdued aesthetic. True to the Samsung 'S' family tradition, it packs a multitude of built-in conveniences and functionalities suitable for all users..Dimensions, Weight, and Display:Slightly larger than its predecessor, the S23, this phone, weighing in at 209g, exudes a robust and well-built feel with a 158 x 76.5 x 8.2mm chassis. Ample size provides an expansive screen real estate, making it convenient to handle while effortlessly fitting into pockets or bags.Display, Resolution, and Refresh Rate:The Galaxy S23 FE employs the tried-and-tested Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 platform from the Galaxy S22 family. Despite its 2.5-year age, it remains powerful enough to seamlessly run a variety of applications, complemented by the 8GB of RAM shared with the Galaxy S23.Camera, Battery, and Charging:The camera array impresses, particularly for its price, featuring a 10MP telephoto zoom lens with 3X optical zoom alongside wide and ultra-wide lenses. The 3X optical zoom outperforms the digital zoom seen in comparable phones. Fun photo modes, like the 'Food mode,' add a warm color tone and background blur, although some night photos may pose challenges. As expected from a 'S' class Samsung, wireless charging is a given, and it can even charge other wireless peripherals on the move. The 4,500 mAh battery ensures commendable longevity, lasting well beyond a dayIn Conclusion:When deciding on a phone investment, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is a worthy choice. To find a phone superior to this, you'd have pay a higher price.
