Several other makers use Wear OS in my opinion it's just as good as the Apple watch. Most of my family prefers Apple and the Apple watch product line and I'll admit there's nothing wrong with that but a decent modern Samsung phone paired with a Galaxy watch... That's just really hard to beat.

Or better yet, buy a watch from a company that does not conduct business like this.

I waited to upgrade for 3 more iterations (2, 3, 4) hoping a lot of the bugs would be worked it. And honestly this watch is still more or less a glorified notification device and is basically worthless if you're a Verizon customer and use Verizon proprietary apps because you cannot download them on your watch. Also, the standalone feature is garbage, if you do try to respond to a message and you aren't near your watch, it either will not be able to send the message or it will say, cannot send from phone, use watch number instead? What's the point??? Additionally, I can't tell you how many times I've answered a call on my watch as I'm headed back to my phone only to get back to my phone and find out I can't transfer the call to my phone (S22 Ultra). The workout/fitness stuff seems ok I guess but if you want to separately measure your heartbeat you better not move a muscle or it will give you a sensor error, however if you have activated a workout on the watch, somehow it shows as being able to read your heartbeat the whole time no matter how much you are moving, how does this make any sense at all? The individual heartbeat app makes you hold still but the heartbeat monitor built into the workout isn't the same? So if you haven't activated a workout and you are doing cardio for example, how the heck can you get a reading without stopping and holding absolutely still? I absolutely love my Galaxy S22 Ultra, I've been a Samsung Galaxy Phone user since the Note 3 but Samsung's Watches seem to be Garbage, and moreso on on Verizon. My wife has an Apple watch and iPhone 13 (both on Verizon as well) and I am SUPER impressed at how well the Apple Watch works and what it can do (I would get one if it were possible to use it with my phone). She never has problems and can literally leave her phone at home and have basically the same functionality on her watch from miles away and it uses her phone number (not a watch number). Samsung is INFINITELY far behind on the watch side and needs to step it up BIG TIME and so is Verizon on their Proprietary apps.

It's a shame Google Assistant still isn't available 9 months later though. I have the apple watch 7 as well and think the galaxy watch OS is far better - principally because of the Tiles. In that regard, despite the move to Wear OS, Samsung have managed to retain pretty much the same feel of the older Tizen UI, which is great. Key positives for me are the selection of watch faces (far batter than apple) and ability to see information or short cut to something through the tiles. Terrible battery life - its nothing like 40 hours and actually worse than my apple watch 7. I get less than 1.5 days with Always on Display tuned off, brightness at <50% and low notifications. 3). 20mm straps look ridiculous on a 46mm watch. The Samsung straps with the wider part at the watch bezel look a little bit better, but they are really poor quality. the silicone band that come with the watch looked scuffed and disgraceful in under 2 weeks and lasted less tyime than the £2 straps on ebay. Therefore you have to rely on 3rd party straps and make do with a 20mm width, which really looks bad. 4). Health monitoring isn't very accurate and accuracy sits below fitbit, apple, garmin, polar etc (see for example 'the quantified scientists' YouTube reviews). Thats not the end of the world if you only care about 'trends' where the accuracy of the value doesnt matter as long as it is consistently inaccurate, but heart rate is way off compared to my Polar H7 heart rate strap and much worse than apple and fitbit. Body composition isnt very accurate compatred to the body analyzer at my gym and i;m very suspicious of the VO2 Max reading I get. Bloody pressure works really well, but given you have to callibrate it monthly against a bicep cuff, I bought the bicep cuff and just use that instead. The stress tracking?? I dont really understand the point or accuracy of that on any smartwatch tbh. The ECG says that my heart is beating.. so thats good. Again, not really sure of the purpose of this on any smart watch. SPO2, well, not very accurate compared to a finger monitor, but again, its generally not that accurate on any smart watch and a bit of a pointless function really. Sleep tracking - deep sleep phase is tracked very badly, light sleep and REM gets mixed up a lot. Tracking when you fell asleep and woke up is perfect though. Overall, I wouldnt recommend the watch for anyone serious about health tracking. There are much better options out there at the same price or less. But for looks, integration with Samsung phones and notifications, its a winner. Just wish the battery life was 5 to 5 days like my Gear S3 (when it was 4 years old!). And samsung really need to do something about the quality and selection of watch bands available. I'll probably wait for the galaxy watch 7 or 8 once they have hopefully sorted out the above.

It's better to track reps manually or not at all. Overall, I would recomend this watch. I've never owned a smart watch and alliw it has a few cons, the pros outweigh the cons. It's a great investment. 100% would recommend. Definitely do please buy a screen protector and a strong wrist band. I've already broken 2 glass screen protectors, but my watch has remained intact

The interface is flawless but the battery drain is quite high. With moderate usage I barely get over a day with this whereas with my Watch2, I was able to easily get 2 days on the same amount of use. Google Pay is a little finnicky on it too and I would recommend sticking with Samsung Pay instead as I was running into the problem of the watch locking itself every 5-10 minutes sometimes and when I looked the issue up, it was due to Google Pay. Once I removed it from the app, it was perfectly fine. The display on it is pretty crisp too and I have no difficulties in watching it under bright sunlight. Overall, highly recommended. Would give this 5 stars if future software updates can fix the battery issue with it. P.S. if you want a more dressy than a sporty look with this watch, I would recommend getting a leather strap that is easily exchangeable with this watch. The classic brown leather strap goes super nice with this for special occasions!

Now I like to talk, but if you think you may get more than 60 mins talk time from your watch spread over 10 hours you won’t. You will be lucky if the watch will last more than 12 hours without making any calls at all while connected to LTE (4G) The battery drains while connected to a mobile network is just too much for this watch to handle. Also, this is what Samsung do not want you to know. If you live in an area with low mobile (cell) signal then your watch will overheat trying to amplify the signal. This means you will get at best 2 mins worth of conversation before the watch shuts down due to overheating. Samsung are aware of this situation but is powerless to do anything about it and in truth does not want you to know! So, if you want a watch that’s smart and are happy to charge it up twice a day so you can use all the features then this would be OK. If you want to use it instead of a mobile (cell) phone then look elsewhere as this watch is useless with the battery life it offers. Seriously useless! You also only find out how bad this watch is after starting a phone esim plan so you can make calls and then you are tied to a network for 12 months that you’ll never use due to how incompetent the watch is at making calls. Also note it’s an esim. ie digital – no physical sim to add or remove. I even tried to use the watch on the charger to talk longer and even the charger could not cope with the drain on the battery and inevitably after some long telephone calls the watch died after 2 hours of use. I honestly do not think there is anything wrong with the watch as other people have had the same experience, its obviously a design fault and an oversite by Samsung to make the watch perform longer on the very small battery that it squeezes into this watch. I hope this review helps people to make a choice when looking at this watch as an option of a standalone mobile (cell) phone. Watch maybe, cell phone definitely not!
I was never a fan of smart watches before. I was a tradionalist. I liked the look of traditional watches. It was more than a timepiece-- it was something that also talked about who you were -- a fasion statement. I never decided to to walk because of how many steps I had, etc. I had an early fit bit, but stopped using it after a couple months. Fast forward a decade and WOW. I don't have to take my phone out to pay or to answer phone calls. I can still read texts even if I don't have my phone on me. I can easily find my phone if I forgot where I put (not as much of a problem for me, but a game changer for my wife). The classic has the feel of a traditional watch with the benefits of modern tech. The health tracking is a bonus. The BMI measurement and activity tracking and the integration with daily calorie use are far more useful than "steps" alone. I even don't mind the battery that only lasts a couple days -- I charge it when I am getting ready in the morning and it goes from usually about 35% to 75% which is all I use during the day (for those who are concerned about lithium battery longevity, 25% to75% is the best operating range anyway) even with stress and Sleep monitoring/oximetry active. I only wish the interbeat heart rate variability data was available separately and not just integrated to the stress reading. That measurement was one of best at measuring cardiac heath risk and is now only becoming practical with wearables (although I do worry with all wearables that the surrogate measurements may not always be accurate in some people whether HRV or sleep)
Pros: This watch has been a perfect addition to my daily life. It's perfect for monitoring your physical activity and monitoring your physical health. The ability to take accurate blood pressure readings is fabulous and it's also taken automatically throughout the day and whilst you're asleep. The readings are accurate once calibrated with a medical blood pressure machine. You can also take an ECG to monitor your heart rhythm. I find the rotating bezel very natural to use and it makes navigation on the watch very easy, much easier than touch navigation. You get all your social media notifications through, with the ability to quickly reply. The touch is accurate for such a small screen, even with large fingers. The watch is very durable and very comfortable to wear. The display is crisp and very clear. Cons: Battery life is quite poor but to be expected with such a full featured watch. I get at least a full day and my sleep routine off a charge before I need to charge it when I wake up. It will take approximately a hour and half to charge. I'm very light with usage with always on display off and persistent use of battery saver mode. More frequent use and not using battery saver will probably result in about 8 hours of life. You cannot browse social media conversations and start a message. You can only reply to a notification. Charging is slow, hour and half to charge, the watch does not support fast charging.
