Do not under any circumstance buy this for fitness

Running two apps at the same time crashes the entire watch i.e Spotify and a workout tracker.4. The phone app is awful to use and the Samsung health app does not provide any interfaces to track long time progress.5. When tracking cycle rides the heart rate will stop tracking a few minutes into the ride and after a 4-hour session, there is no heart rate.6. If you pause a workout the GPS sometimes cannot reconnect. This is particularly frustrating if the auto-pause mode is on, which is useful at lights or when you are forced to stop.7. The native OS apps are poor and pack very limited features and there are no useful built-in apps.8. It requires a bunch of companion apps to run on any phone other than a Samsung. These constantly give annoying notifications when you turn on/off your Bluetooth telling you the watch has been connected/disconnected.9. It uses S voice instead of Bixby, this is going to change soon but it's going to use Bixby... Enough said.Samsung has tried to sever its dependence on Andriod and it has been a fatal error. They do not have the vision or the resources to maintain a well designed OS so I don't know why they thought to make a watch OS was a good strategy. If you are a casual runner or use it to track gym workouts this is suitable otherwise buy the right product for the job.

I switched from my Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 to the Gear S3 Frontier for a month, and I can tell the love and care from Samsung put into this product. Even 7 years later this phone is compatible with my S22 Ultra just fine, and I even prefer the style of the page provided for this watch in the Samsung Wearables app. Even though it doesn't use Google's WearOS, Tizen 5.5 still very much holds up in my opinion, as it carries the same basic messaging, calling, notification functions. The feel of the watch is great as I always loved the rotating bezel on smart watches but this must be my favorite design on one. If you find it for a good price, I think it would be a great cheap smart watch option.

Gear S2 owner - an upgrader's review

Short answer, yes, long answer, read on.The display is one of the most obvious upgrades, being noticeable larger it has more real estate to display information, i.e. the weather widget now has enough space to also display precipitation chance along with UV index, below that it even manages to squeeze up/down arrows to cycle through other locations that you may have setup. That's the next noticeable improvement, how responsive the screen is on the S3, on my S2 there were times it would struggle to respond to even gross actions like screen swipes up, down, left and right; the S3, however, I can easily tap on the small arrows on that weather display, despite having pretty large fingers that can have trouble hitting individual letters on my phone's keyboard. One other feature that I've noticed is improved is the "turn on" response when you turn your arm to see the watch, the S2 was really unreliable and would often require flicking my wrist back and forth several times to make it illuminate (I have a suspicion that the S2 is actually set up to be worn on the inside of the wrist, as it responds much more readily when placed there), the S3 turns on much more reliably, often turning on even when you've already half-raised and turned your wrist in preparation of turning your head to look at it.Apps on the phone, I'm finding myself using things like S Health a lot more readily than on the S2, I suspect mainly down to the improved responsiveness of the watch in general; I'm a pretty lethargic person, if I'm honest, and I'm actually finding myself following the inactivity prompts to get up out of my office chair and walk around, or stretch out. So, despite being a lazy person, I'm actually finding the small nudges are actually making a difference, which has really surprised me. Doing Dick Tracy impressions is a bit of fun, talking to someone via your watch, the practicality is debatable as you really do need to hold your wrist fairly near to your head, no waving it around and trying to do something else at the same time, but there are occassions when it's handy, i.e. comfortably sitting across the room from your phone, or holding something in your arms and it's easier to swipe your watch screen than dig your phone out of your pocket, just be aware that you're using a speakerphone and not something which only you can hear.Battery life is yet another improvement: the S2 really did need to be recharged every three days, you could try squeezing a fourth day out of it but it would almost certainly need to be switched into low-power mode before you got home, or, just as likely, it would switch itself off; the S3, meanwhile, I'm finding easily goes four days and you can usually risk a fifth day without too much concern, I haven't had to switch it to low-power mode yet as it was late enough in the day when it starts prompting you that I still had plenty of time left to get home and put it on its charger.Build quality is as good as the S2 despite one extremely slight drawback, because of the larger build the turnable bezel makes more noise if you happen to tap on it with your finger; it makes the bezel sound as if it sits a lot more loosely on the body of the watch, but in reaility when you turn it it feels just as snug fitting and the ratcheting is just as smooth. One point I would like to make about the buttons: if you happened to look at Samsung's renders of the watch, it makes the buttons look huge and that they stick about 5mm out of the watch body; I had wanted to get the Frontier version of the watch, because of this, with it's flat buttons, but in reality they're really quite snug and haven't caused any problems, even when I've been working out on a rowing machine. One noticeable change between the S2 Classic and the S3 Classic is the supplied watch straps: the S2 had fairly refined leather straps, two types of layered leather that were stitched together; the S3, however, is a solid chunk of cowhide, almost 3mm thick in places, extremely utilitarian and stiff at first. For the first day or two I could feel the strap gripping the sides of my wrist like a vice, but then it started to ease off and break in, it's now one of the most comfortable watches I've ever worn. So, to finish, should you upgrade from an S2 to an S3? If it doesn't stretch your ability to budget, I can wholeheartedly recommend it as a great improvement and would say to make the jump now, you will not be disappointed. If money is tight, I would still recommend it, but wait until you can afford it or happen upon a good deal that doesn't hurt your pocket as badly.

Glitchy, Low Quality
27 December 2018

I was very excited when I first got this watch because it could pair seamlessly with my samsung phone, but in practice it often unpairs randomly. Apps like Spotify that I was most excited for don't work remarkably well, sometimes having to be uninstalled and reinstalled to work. It is very slow to bring up text conversations or emails. The health monitoring system is mediocre at best: the heart rate sensor is inaccurate, the floor climbing recorder fails to record most floors climbed. The auto screen brightness is very slow to react to if you try to look at the time on a bright day you are unlikely to be able to see the screen, also it often takes several attempts to have the screen show by turning your wrist, a feature that other brands have made near ... MoreI was very excited when I first got this watch because it could pair seamlessly with my samsung phone, but in practice it often unpairs randomly. The auto screen brightness is very slow to react to if you try to look at the time on a bright day you are unlikely to be able to see the screen, also it often takes several attempts to have the screen show by turning your wrist, a feature that other brands have made near flawless. Now on the durability and customer service. There is glass on the inside of the watch that goes against your skin and can monitor some vitals like heart-rate, this glass cracked only two months in to owning this watch when no other damage had been done. After a regular day I took the watch off to notice these cracks which allow sweat and dust in the watch. I can see now that the glass is very flimsy and thin, unlike other brands. When I called samsung to repair this issue they just incessantly repeated that any physical damage is not under warranty, despite the fact that this damage clearly is a product defect or failure. A watch that is advertised a an activity watch should not break under light use, and the customer service reps were unwilling or unable to think for themselves and understand that the defect was that physical damage happens far too easily. I also found that the bevel started rotating less smoothly after a short time, and the finish on the metal scratched very easily. Also considering the $300+ price for the watch, I expected much more.Overall, the capability of the watch would be great if it actually worked the way it is advertised and expected to, but it does not. The quality of the material and manufacturing is sub-par, and if anything does go wrong, good luck to you because samsung is not going to be of any help. I would not recommend this item, and because of the customer service I would avoid the brand all together.

Great Watch with Smart Features
31 May 2020

Great watch. I like some of the smart features, but I don't fully utilize them. Took quite a bit of tweaking to get the settings how I liked, but it was a new gadget so I was fine with taking that time. There are a bunch of paid watch faces and some free ones you can use with this, but many of them drain your battery like crazy. I don't recommend the Always On feature as that will kill your battery in less than a day. After nearly 2yrs, I lose 20-25% of the battery per day with moderate usage for checking the time and maybe a couple dozen notification popups from texts.I didn't get the version with the independent data plan so it needs to be within Bluetooth range of my phone to fully function. I rarely use the phone feature on the watch, but it does come in handy when my hands are greasy/sticky and I get a call and don't want to stick my hands in my pockets or touch my phone. I can use my nose to answer inbound calls without needing to touch it with my hands.I recommend opening it ASAP and checking to make sure that the bezel (spinny part around the watch face) isn't overly loose. Just tap on the bezel in a few different places to see if it clicks or rattles. My first watch had an extremely loose bezel that made a lot of noise just by moving my wrist around. BestBuy was super cool about it and allowed me to exchange it for a new one since I only had it for a couple days and there was clearly no damage done by me as it still looked brand new.I typically wear my watches on the inside of my wrist, like the military typically does. I don't feel comfortable doing that with this watch as I'm kind of rough and I'm concerned that I'll break it.

Awesome smartwatch, heavy duty construction, tons of features. Even for being like 5 years old it functions like new and is impressive. Little bit of a pain to set up but otherwise it does great. Only complaint we have of this model of watch is that the actual watch is large, kind of cumbersome, though in all honesty this was a gift (for a lady) and she doesn't have the largest wrists. As for the actual watched I received... there are alot more scratches on it that there should be for a *very good" rated used watch. Scratches on bezel and face of the watch, and the bands looked like someone had worn them for a year straight without any cleanings. I have had this for two years now. I had cellular service on it through TMobile. After two years of daily use, I can tell you it wasn't ready for prime time and has been more frustrating than anything. The laggie, buggy software sometimes freezes during one of these steps and you can stop your run and basically have to just turn the watch off and hope it will still save your run. I have also have several instances where the watch just decides to send a run half way through but I don't find out until I get back home. Streaming music required Spotify Premium, which I did not know when I bough but did upgrade to to use. The streaming was never stable and is basically useless. I had to use music downloading and "offline" mode to listen to spotify music during runs. You cannot imagine how hard it is to do all these intricate spotify app setting on this tiny watch screen, and periodically it logs you out of spotify and you have to do it all over again. As for non-running issues, there were plenty as well. The watch battery is horrible; I usually got about 20 hours before I would have to charge it--not even a full day. The phone-hand-off feature that is supposed to automatically forward your cell phone calls to your watch if you are wearing the watch and it goes out of bluetooth range of your phone (if you've left your phone behind), automatically worked maybe half the time at best. IT just wasn't the seamless, useful feature it promised to be, and in fact, that goes for the entire watch itself. After two years and over $1k in the watch, cellular fees and spotify premium fees, I found it to be mostly disappointing and frustrating, and look forward to getting rid of this and replacing with a new Garmon smartwatch that can stream music, like the Vivoactive 3, which my wife has, and has not had any of the litany of problems I've had with this Gear S3 Frontier.

Not at all as advertised
6 August 2022

Cosmetically, the watch is nice. The bezel has a good amount of wear, but it doesn't look awful. The beating the bezel has taken clearly saved the screen from wear, because it is flawless. The body of the watch has some minor scuffs. The band seems new, it's a cheap flexi rubber strap. That is the only thing that went as hoped. Since the description is a numbered list I'll respond to each advertisement in turn:1. I highly doubt this product was "professionally inspected" by anyone, seeing as I received an R765V (Verizon LTE model) instead of the R760 (bluetooth model) I THOUGHT I was purchasing.2. "Like New Condition" is a reach, especially given the battery life... more on that later. Speaking of battery life, I couldn't even use the watch as I received it! The watch arrived with a dead battery and couldn't boot, which is already a bad look (dead batteries deteriorate fastest in storage). The seller included a charger for a Moto 360, which does NOT charge this watch at all. Luckily I have an S22 which can charge this watch.4. The return/replacement policy is the only reason I bought this watch, because this is honestly what I expected from a "refurbished" watch on Walmart dot com.5. "80% capacity relative to its new equivalent" is an absolute joke. This watch goes from a full charge at 91% (will not charge higher) to dead in one hour of moderate use. It also goes straight from 0% to 55% when it is charged from dead. It SHOULD last 2-3 days new, and in this state the watch is literally useless. The only reason I'm not returning this is to save myself the hassle of dealing with the seller and waiting for a replacement to ship (not to mention I'm not confident a replacement would be any better). I can have a new battery for $15 delivered in two days, and the physical condition of the watch is better than I can find on eBay for $50.Overall, for me personally, I feel that what I got was worth at least what I paid for it. I'm willing to do repair work and got lucky that I didn't need a charger. But for anyone wanting a buy it and use it experience or an honest seller I'd look elsewhere.EXPECT USED, NOT REFURBISHED

Outstanding Samsung Smart Watch Bargain
1 May 2022

Watch works very well and does everything I wanted. I do find it hard to double tap fast enough for the watch to register the double tap. Also, every time the screen shuts down the speaker on the watch says that. I find this annoying as very often the watch face touches a surface and turns on and tells the time and then tells me 15 seconds later that the screen is shutting down. I also like the large face that makes it easy to read. The watch also speaks out your messages and I like this. I find the watch comfortable to wear all day-- and night should you choose to do so. The charger and a new strap is included--this was a nice touch.
