9 Answers To Questions About The Q900A Features

I have been a surround sound system with speakers person until now and to be honest I was in doubt that a single Soundbar could even match the same sound quality and power of a separate surround speaker system and do a better job than separate speakers in my lounge. But after setting it up and testing it out, this Samsung HW-Q900A 7.1.2 speaker system with Sub-Woofer, even without the 2 Optional Wireless Rear Speakers, just blew me away and I am being serious. I was so surprised at the sheer Volume and Clarity thats comes out of this amazing Soundbar that I will never be going back to separate speaker systems again. I have a friend who is a pure gamer and he wasn't that impressed when he heard I was getting a new soundbar, that was until the day he came over and played his games online for 5hrs with my Q900A Soundbar and NEO 50" 4K TV in game mode and he walked away hrs later 100% convinced that these new Samsung Soundbars are the real deal, He told me that the sound of his games actually blew his own separate speakers away in all areas of his games, specifically he said in the surround sounds you don't normally take notice of or hear most times and he was impressed with the sheer volume ! :D That's the Power and Technology of Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos coming in to play. Set Up was fast and easy, and the remote control handles all the adjustments when you need to make any. I have my TV set up with the eARC and use the TV sound and Soundbar at the same time which gives you a much fuller sound when listening to the TV or watching great Movies. If you want the Best True UN-compressed sound you can get from a Soundbar make sure you go with the a HDMI 2.1 cable with "eARC." Look for “HDMI Ultra High Speed” with eARC on the cable box and if it's not there ask the retailer for verified confirmation before you buy it. eARC stands for "Enhanced Audio Return Channel" and it is the newer version of the ARC standard. Side Note: All the HDMI Cables talked about here like the 2.0 and 2.1 will play yr 4k Video and TV no problems at all, we are mainly talking about the difference in sound quality when using the different HDMI Cables versions ok. The only difference you will encounter is the Refresh Rates of yr TV, the normal average is a 4K of 60Hz and for the NEO TVs they are 120Hz. Current HDMI 2.0 resolution and refresh rate capabilities cap out at 4K@60 fps or 8K@30 fps, while HDMI 2.1 can carry all the way up to 10K@120 fps. Is HDMI 2 and 2.1 the same regarding the Sound output? No!, the HDMI 2.1 upgrade represents a huge leap over HDMI 2.0 in data Transmission speed and volume and to get the true real sound thats what you need. HDMI 2.1 is now 48Gbps in bandwidth compared to v2.0 with only 18Gbps, which is a 135%+ increase in total bandwidth available for sound and that makes a huge difference to the end user. Now a std ARC HDMI cable will still work but that means it will have to compress the sound down to a level that gets the actual data volume down to 18Gbps, a level the HDMI 2.0 cable can handle. So that's why it's important to get the HDMI Cable version 2.1, with eARC. Whats the difference between Dolby True HD and Dolby Atmos? Dolby TrueHD is a true Lossless Audio Codec with support for up to 7.1 Audio Channels which is what the Q900A is and to really enjoy this, you must use a HDMI 2.1 Cable with eARC, it is the same std used with Blu-ray Discs. No major streaming platforms use it. Dolby Atmos is a 3D surround sound technology that allows sounds to be placed anywhere in a 3D environment. Dolby Atmos is really an extension of Dolby True HD, as mentioned before, is a lossless compression audio technology. In short, the sound will be almost the same as when it was first recorded. Usually, this type of sound format is used in Movie theaters. That is why we can notice even the faintest audio such as the blowing of wind or creaking of doors. Dolby TrueHD audio codec can replicate sounds from different ranges. In short, this audio format retains every bit of data from its original file available before compression. This exponentially enhances the sound quality and data size thats why you need the HDMI 2.1 cables so it can handle the data size. Dolby Atmos is a surround-sound technology developed in 2012 that expanded the capabilities of the existing 5.1 and 7.1 channel configurations. Dolby Atmos offers an edge to the sound quality by adding height channels of audio. Also Dolby Atmos is used in two different audio codecs, Dolby Digital Plus where it is compressed/lossy and Dolby TrueHD where it is uncompressed/lossless. Does Dolby TrueHD Support Atmos? Yes, Dolby TrueHD supports Dolby Atmos. This audio codec can work with up to 7.1 audio channels utilizing lossless compression. Also, the TrueHD format support for up to 24-bit audio is very commendable. Note: If yr just after the Dolby Atmos sound only, then you can get by with the std HDMI 2.0 Cable with ARC and that will give you the Dolby Atmos sound. Fiber Optic or HDMI Cable 2.1 which is better? HDMI 2.1 and 2.0 is much better than any Fiber Optic cable because both the HDMI cables support higher bandwidth and speakers systems up to 7.1 which means better sound, because it doesn't need to be compressed so is true lossless sound, where as Fiber Optic Cables only support Dolby Digital and speakers up to 5.1. What is HDMI eARC mode? The eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) enables you to transmit the original full resolution audio signal through an HDMI cable and reproduce the best sound without compromise. Is HDCP the same as ARC? HDCP 2.2 is NOT the same as ARC. HDCP 2.2 is a technology that protects ultra high definition digital content from being copied. ARC is an HDMI feature that allows you to streamline your setup through one cable for external audio devices. Digital Digital Rights Management (DRM) is technology that enables online video and audio services to enforce that the content they provide is used in accordance with their requirements and Not pirated. We are all required by Law to have and use this technology regardless of what equipment we use. Sorry this review was so long, but I tried to Answer as many Questions as possible, the ones people have being asking me the most over last few months and I hope this has helped you make yr decision on whether to get a new sound bar or not and my answer is a very simple Yes as I absolutely love my soundbar. I have one complaint, small though it is I want to mention it, can you please in future put the sound display dial on the front of the soundbar instead of the top because I have to get up each time to check the settings. Why you would do that I am not sure. But overall I can live with that for the pure sound experience.

Airplay 2 not working with iTunes

I even went and bought a small Airplay speaker from a Samsung competitor just to check that iTunes was supporting Airplay 2 (the other components were still Airplay 1) and this non-Samsung speaker worked first time without a hitch. A key reason to buy this soundbar was Airplay support. Soundbars are not exactly the best for music, but I do not want to compound this by using Bluetooth. It is extremely frustrating that Airplay is not working and Samsung seems to have little interest in resolving the issue. I will likely return the soundbar on this basis. Perhaps Samsung will release a firmware update soon! The recommendation to a friend is only based on the caveat that said friend does not use Airplay.

I used the 'top gun: maverick' movie as benchmarking. At the start of the movie, when the dark star took off, I felt like I was mounted onto a rocket! So convincing and immersive! Near the end of the movie for the air combat, I could picture all the missiles' directions and exposure locations precisely while the pilot's dialogue remained crystal clear. This is just the next level and I truly believed that the sound bar's technology is good enough to compete against some high-end speaker systems from movie watching point of view. Even for music listening (I'm not an audiophile but I did appreciate good quality sound output), I tested it with my phone's Bluetooth connection, tested so many genres and was certainly more than happy about the music it produced, forward and cristal clear vocal, punchy base, heaps of details and it blows my car's audio system away in terms of music listening. I certainly enjoyed using it to listen to music as well. Overall, the 85" Q60B and this sound bar that I purchased this year are the best shopping decision of the year easy!

Compact but full sound
7 October 2022

I got the Samsun HW-S60B soundbar to replace an existing one in my bedroom. This soundbar is small, making it perfect for the space I have, that being said it definitely does not lack in quality of sound! I will admit it has less bass than my last soundbar but the sound from this unit is so clear and goes throughout the entire room sounding as if you were in the movie itself. As I tried it out on a movie I have watched several times there was so much more I could hear within the movie. I actually started looking around to see where the “extra noises” were coming from only to hit pause and realize it was coming from the movie. It has a dedicated center speaker for voices and they come through without any interference from the rest of the background sounds. It has a dedicated center speaker for voices and they come through without any interference from the rest of the background sounds. It features 5 channels with 3 woofers and 2 tweeters in this tiny soundbar. Looking at it you see speakers around the entire body of the soundbar. The set up was so simple. I opted to connect using the HDMI/ARC cable so I could control the soundbar from my existing remote for ease. It connects seamlessly to the SmartThings App and within a few clicks you are completely done without complication. When connected to the app there are multiple options you can select for what you are listening to at the moment: standard, music, adaptive and DTS. You can also control the bass and treble. Other options are: night time, softening the sound coming out as to not disturb anyone else at night, voice amplifier and voice enhancement which makes the speech come through crystal clear. Connecting the soundbar to the SmartThings App allows me to tap my Galaxy phone to the soundbar and play my music straight from my phone. The soundbar also features Alexa built right in. I can’t say how ecstatic I am with the sound from this compact soundbar.

Decent soundbar to improve on TV sound
29 August 2022

I purchased this Samsung HW-S50B soundbar, hoping to use it on an older Samsung plasma flat screen TV that we have in the basement. I like to go down there and watch movies when the kids are using our main TV, so I was hoping to be able to improve the sound quality a bit with this product. Unfortunately for me, i couldn't get it to pair with my older TV (I know, my fault). Unboxing was easy, and it's a small soundbar that will fit just about anywhere. In the box you will find the soundbar, power cable, HDMI cable, remote, batteries, and hardware for wall installation (if you want to do that). Getting everything connected was simply enough, but the spot where you connect power cord and HDMI cable was at an awkward angle, on the bottom of the soundboard (see picture). ... MoreI purchased this Samsung HW-S50B soundbar, hoping to use it on an older Samsung plasma flat screen TV that we have in the basement. Getting everything connected was simply enough, but the spot where you connect power cord and HDMI cable was at an awkward angle, on the bottom of the soundboard (see picture). I would have liked this to be on the back of the soundboard instead. The sounboard has 4 spots for plugging things in; 1 for power, 1 micro USB, one HDMI (arc), and 1 optical audio cable. My older TV does not have Bluetooth capability, so i tried to connect it with the HDMI cable but could not get this to work either (probably because my TV doesn't have an 'arc' HDMI input). So, i will have to purchase an optical audio cord if i want to use this on my older TV *sad face* For the purpose of this review, i connected the soundbar to my Samsung smartphone, which was super easy. I played some music off of YouTube and watch some Netflix so i could test out the sound quality. It had great amplification, with clear audio. I would say the audio quality if quite good, but with it being a 3.0 channel unit, the bass isn't as cinematic as it would be if there was a separate subwoofer. So, if you are looking to improve on your TVs audio quality without spending too much money, or just want to listen to music in your room from your phone, this would be a good option. However, if you want deeper bass, i would recommend looking for something with a dedicated subwoofer, like a 3.1 or a 5.1 unit

Excellent sound for the size, but it haa many cons
1 July 2022

The S60B/ZA sounds really great for how small it is. I have a Sony S200F and this S60B blows the Sony out of the water. However, there are few things you need to do for it to perform the way it should. 1st, you need to place the soundbar in a small compartment like one of those tv cabinet has a little space for a compact soundbar or bluway player. Why? There are speakers built on the sides of the soundbar and they need a wall to bounce back the sound, otherwise, you will never feel the surround effect. 2nd, you need to put form patches underneath the soundbar coz the bottom of the soundbar is made of metal, which rattles if you place the soundbar on a not super smooth surface. If you can get the soundbar placed at the right spot, it sounds very good for it is. Bass is punchy and vocal is clear. For the cons, this soundbar does not support dolby atmos on windows, see picture. It is not a true dolby atmos soundbar, it is more like a virtual dolby atmos effect soundbar. The two major cons for me are the volume control is really out of track. For example, 60% is 2x louder than 50%, I am not kidding. When the volume is set to below 40%, the sound is super quiet. The second major con is that whenever you are not listening to anything for 30 seconds, the soundbar will "mute" itself. When you start playing something again, it will take 3-4 seconds to wake up the soundbar again. In sum, if you have a very limited space, this is a great soundbar especially you don't want a woofer to take up some space, but I have to save $300+ for the bar is very overpriced even though the build quality is very solid (all metal). Unfortunately, I am going to return it as the delay of sound is very annoying to me especially when I am on youtube switchinfmg videos to videos, almost each video takes a few seconds to start having sound coming out unless I play videos back to back.

Fantastic!

I've had this soundbar for a couple of weeks now and must say that I am very impressed with the overall sound. My initial budget was £500 but after reading into up-firing speaker systems I knew I had to get one! I wasn't so keen on last years design with the cloth material finish and the screen being on top of the device so decided to wait for this one and I am so glad that I did, it looks great and the sound is outstanding, I've had to make a few tweaks to the settings for my own liking and although I'm not quite there yet the results are stunning, I've tested this with Ghostbusters Afterlife and Stranger Things Season 4 to name a few, quiet scenes when someone is walking or riding a bike down an empty road really makes it sound like you're actually there with them ... MoreI've had this soundbar for a couple of weeks now and must say that I am very impressed with the overall sound. The virtual surround sound also does a decent job and on a few occasions I've heard the sound come from behind me, also the side firing speakers do an excellent job as when a doorbell rang on one scene I actually looked over to the side of the room from where the sound came from! The sub has a massive punch on scenes where there are explosions and destruction the only minor issue is sometimes on scenes where there is music playing the bass doesn't sound as deep as I would expect, that may just be to do with how I have it set up (Still tweaking the settings) or maybe its the way its been mixed into the show or movie. I have tested the same music through YouTube and it sounds great as you would expect. I have turned up the channel on the up-firing speakers which sounded fantastic during rainy scenes in The Batman and along with the side firing speakers it sounds like its coming from all around you. The good thing is if I feel the need for an even more immense experience I can purchase the rear speaker set in the future. I was a bit hesitant at spending £800 on this system but as soon as I put on a movie I forgot all about it! Every time I'm watching something I cant help but smile at how good this thing sounds. I find that turning on virtual surround sound and using the adaptive settings gives the best overall performance. Highly recommended.

S800B 3.1.2ch Lifestyle - HW-S800B/XU

I was looking forward to receiving my Samsung S800B Lifestyle Ultra Slim Soundbar. When it arrived, I eagerly unpacked it, looked at the instruction booklet and thought how unhelpful it actually was, there are functions of the soundbar that are not included in the supplied instructions, so online I went to Samsung's website and downloaded a more comprehensive instruction booklet, which I would advise anyone to do instead of following the one provided in the box. Setting up the the system is quite easy, once you have the full instruction booklet! Pairing the Sub to the soundbar is straight forward and quick. As is connecting it to the TV, this is where problems for some people can arise as your TV will need to have HDMI(Arc), Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to connect to the soundbar (for Wi-Fi, your TV also needs to be a Samsung). As I have an LG TV, I could only test the Soundbar using HDMI(Arc) and Bluetooth. Both work very well, however I felt that HDMI (Arc) has the edge on sound quality over Bluetooth. The Soundbar itself is unobtrusive and for it's size, it certainly punches out impressive quality sound, without any noticeable distortion at higher volumes. The different Sound Mode's let you tailor the sound to your taste using the supplied remote or the Smartthings App, which you will need to download to get the best out of the soundbar. The Subwoofer is again, quite small and unobtrusive for the bass it develops, this can also be controlled via the remote or the Smartthings app. You can connect to Alexa, as this is built in, however I would suggest you continue to use or buy a dedicated Echo device, the quality of this feature is quite poor in comparison, a feature I was looking forward too, however has left me disappointed, so I will stick to my Echo. Apart from the Alexa being a poor feature, the rest of the system I cannot fault in the short time I have used it. It certainly fills the room with quality and crystal clear sounds, from speech to music to fast paced sound effects and blasts in movies. For anyone who wants a Soundbar that is unobtrusive and provides high quality sound, then this is the one I would suggest. With the ability to add two rear speakers, this would be a very good all rounder.

Samsung Q930 - Great Soundbar!
19 December 2022

Purchased from Richer Sounds in Leeds about two weeks ago. After reading reviews and watching YouTube videos, it sounded like the right purchase for my budget. The £300 cashback offer from Samsung also swayed me in to making the purchase. The soundbar didn't come with a HDMI cable in the box so I had to purchase one separately. I plugged the soundbar into my Sony TV, and it seemed fairly easy to setup. I couldn't find any details on calibrating the soundbar to my room and I'm unsure if it auto-calibrated as part of the initial setup. Having not owned a soundbar before, I have no comparison point, but the difference from the TV speakers was vast. The dialogue was so much clearer and you could definitely hear the bass, side speakers and the rear speakers kicking in. ... MorePurchased from Richer Sounds in Leeds about two weeks ago. It's very fiddly trying to adjust the speakers using the soundbar remote control so I downloaded the Samsung Smart Things app. Very straightforward to connect and configure and it's so much easier to adjust the audio channels though the app. The app does not help with the calibration unfortunately. Still playing around with the soundbar settings and finding suitable content to test it out properly (especially something that will show off the upfiring channels), but am very satisfied with it so far. Marked down to 4 stars because I thought Samsung would have included a HDMI cable with their premium soundbars. Also, because of the poor information on calibrating the device to the room. It's still a great soundbar and I would definitely recommend it.

Samsung soundbar s801b First good things - the soundbar sounds really well and much better than my old and bigger LG Atmos soundbar. But: 1. The instructions are poor: no mention of Alexa or other voice assistants; it says it uses HDMI to MINI HDMI, but it is actually MICRO HDMI cable. 2. I Googled how to connect the soundbar to Alexa - it needs to be done via an iPhone app (no mention of that in the instructions). But the soundbar fails to connect to the internet via this app (even though the app connects to the soundbar), with an error code: 15-200 - “There was a problem connecting to the network with your Soundbar. Make sure your network is working correctly” (Yes it is, every other device is getting perfect wifi and the router is just below the Soundbar. Make sure your network is working correctly” (Yes it is, every other device is getting perfect wifi and the router is just below the Soundbar. (The help gives some suggestions: - The network name may contain unsupported letters or symbols (seriously Samsung? It doesn’t). - Change the channel of your wi-fi network on your router (every device works fine but for the Soundbar you need to do this??). - Make sure the device is compatible with the security settings of your wi-fi network (you tell me Samsung if your device is compatible or not). Check MAC address filter setting on our router (I've no idea how to do that, nor should I need to - every other device works just fine).) There's no information about this connection anywhere that I can see on your website or on the SmarThings website. 3. Nor your manual, nor your webpage for this product shows what rear speakers this sound bar is compatible with, even though it is presumably compatible with SWA-9500S. (Nor does this webpage says what HDMI type of cable it needs (MICRO) - surely your product managers should be able to keep this updated, so your customers do not get frustrated by buying a wrong thing) 3. But also - Dear Samsung’s product managers/leadership - why when a user is registering for your account, via the SmartThings, in addition to their email address - do you need to collect your customers' personal data?: Full Name, DATE OF BIRTH, PRECISE LOCATION (if approximate location is turned on (which should be easily sufficient- the app is designed not to work, and by the way THE LOCATION SHOULD NOT BE NEEDED AT ALL). Thru the 2FA you insist on customers mobile number (what's so important can be stolen from your customer's account?). Is Samsung going to send your customers birthday cards? Visit them? Maybe you need a copy of their passports too? You ask for users wi-fi name and password - do you have mechanisms that someone will not run those passwords on the users’ email account to see if they can get in? Obviously also all this information will be linked to the users' viewing, playing, apps and browsing history. But what happens when one day you get hacked and all this information is stolen - will you pay $100 compensation to each of your 100s of million users? How do you secure this data, how do you ensure that it is not sold on? Are you not aware of the risks you are running by over-collecting people’s information? Do you keeps this information in the UK or do you transfer them to Korea? You should allow your customers to provide as much information as they want - without coercing them for it, they paid for this expensive soundbar already - what else do you want from them??. THIS IS SUPER UNFAIR AND DISAPPOINTING WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.
