I have a very nice older macbook pro that was growing slower and slower in its stock form to the point i had to decide if i should spend the money to get a new one . After some research i decided to upgrade it with an ssd and some more ram. So i went with the Samsung 860 EVO SSD 500GB and the results are better then i ever expected. This macbook is plenty fast now for light everyday use im glad i went this route, it added years more to the life of my computer. Thanks Samsung for the great product

If you have any basic PC modding skills, the installation of this drive will be simple. This 1TB 860 Evo is available from multiple retailers as of this writing for $109. The purchase is a no-brainer if you currently have a traditional HDD. Not only will your rig boot in mere seconds, but even things like video editing runs smoother and faster, especially when editing with multiple synced cameras. All around speed increase going from HDD to this SDD is absolutely noticeable in quite literally every aspect of machine operation. It's everything people claim it to be. I actually had a disk clone failure the first time I tried to clone my HDD with the Samsung software. Turns out that any non-windows apps that are running in the background (in your SysTray) are actively accessing your HDD and MUST be closed in order for the disk to be cloned. No big deal, clone worked perfectly on the second try. It does take roughly 1.5 hrs per 500gb for the cloning process. Don't forget to grab a USB to SATA adapter so that you can clone! Get the $4.xx one on eBay, it works perfectly.

My first experience with this SSD was using it as an external portable drive because I had a lot of files to transfer back-and-forth. I was amazed on how much of a difference I instantly noticed. It was simple to setup for me. I inserted it into an external drive adapter, plugged it into the laptop and then formatted the drive and I was set to go. The 4 different phones file transfers processed in a speedy short time and the computer had no lag when I plugged the SSD in.The interaction was snappy and I've never gotten that with other HDD's, flash drives or SD cards. It was instant gratification and made the whole process smooth. Needless to say, the read/write speeds of an SSD compared to a regular HDD is like night and day. And my afterthoughts on reading other users experiences have deemed it also very reliable. The response times are snappier, almost instant and if you're a hi-tech junkie like me, then this Samsung 860 QVO is definitely the way to go to get more out of your devices. My final conclusion on this Samsung 860 QVO SSD is that you will not regret the investment and in the end makes it really worth it.

Since 2012 I have exchanged several SSDs in my ever evolving build. Several brands have failed on me, but never one of the Samsung drives. I have currently four SSDs in my build which I use quite a lot (somewhere in the terabite range on read-write per month). I keep my SSDs cooled in their slots with a dedicated fan, trying to keep temps below 45 degrees at all times, which paid off so far. Samsung Magician helps me to keep track on usage and on overall health of the drives. I buy new drives and replace them whenever Samsung Magician tells me that the health of the drives go down. I have a constant HDD backup (4 TB Western Digital) that I only had to use when the other brands failed on me (not name shaming these here, we all know who those brands are). Whatever ... Whatever people say, keep your drives cool, check regularly on wear due to load and you should never have an issue with a Samsung drive. I will probably replace the one non-Samsung drive left with another EVO. This review comes from a guy that drives a non-nonsense non-RGB-show-off air-cooled functional build right now, so my system is optimized on cooling my components (including all drives) and raw functionality (my drives are in swap bays as well).
These disks are incompatible with AMD SATA controllers in AHCI mode. They are constantly resetting and freezing and can corrupt the OS or user data. Samsung has known about this issue but continues to ignore and deny it, and will not fix it. They sell these disks without any warning about these incompatibilities, with text such as this on their web site:"... the improved queued trim enhances Linux compatibility. Samsung's advanced engineering makes the 860 EVO more compatible with your computing system."This is simply not true with AMD systems running either Windows or Linux. They also frequently reset when used in an external enclosure with ASMedia USB3 to SATA adapter (ASMT1053, ASMT1153E, AS2105).Samsung does not honor their warranties. They sell a product which does not work for some people (AMD system owners), without any warning of incompatibilities which they have known about for 2 years, and then refuse to stand behind their products to get the customer a working solution. They won't even replace these AMD-incompatible 860 drives with the older model 850, which work better with AMD, because they say they can only repair or replace defective drives. Doesn't work = Defective!
I had a privilege to test out Samsung's Solid State Drive (SSD) that came with 1TB of storage and I decided to put it into a good use and test it out in two different systems: a PC and PlayStation 4.First of all, it is amazing that storage technology has evolved and advanced so far that the end users are able to store more data as well as make their PCs to run faster and more efficient.I have originally installed 1TB SSD into my all-in-all PC. The installation was pretty easy and involved plugging the cables in the drive and booting up the PC. I used the drive to install a fresh copy of WIndows 10. Installation went pretty quick just because it was a solid state drive and data writes were fast, compared to my regular 3.5" HDD which took a longer time to do the ... Installation went pretty quick just because it was a solid state drive and data writes were fast, compared to my regular 3.5" HDD which took a longer time to do the same task (I did a test run on a similar PC). The best part, the boot to Windows desktop took only 5 seconds and Boom! My PC was up and ready to perform tasks. Chrome browser fired up quickly as well as other programs I threw at it like Adobe Photoshop, MovieMaker software, etc. I also ran a couple of read and write tests and transfer rates were sufficient enough running around 400 MBs.This drive used a V-NAND technology which means that Instead of having flash memory cells stacked horizontally, V-NAND technology stacks memory cells vertically. Different types of NAND architectures are more resilient than others and this one should handle about 35000 write cycles. Write cycles, also called program and erase or P/E cycles, are another important metric touching on SSD reliability. This type of SSD is able to endure a finite number of write cycles. In reality it should serve you many years of service.I have also tested this drive in my PlayStation 4 and I was so surprised how quickly my PS4 was able to start up and the game load times were shorter significantly. So I would definitely recommend this drive for any console that offers a hard drive swap. It is definitely worth it!All in all, once you go the SSD route you will never want to switch to the regular old HDD technology. This drive will offer your PC a new life that is worth experiencing.
Purchased 860 EVO 1 TB beginning of month (Sept 2020). Office Depot matched another's price (which is now their price too) and I wanted to use up some store credits, so it all worked out!I'm a real "analyze to death" before making a move type, and frugal to a fault (my computer is an over 8 year old Dell XPS 8300), yet in all my analyzing I slowly drifted up to wanting this drive over the other options (having dumped the store brand cheapo model as an option pretty quickly). 5 year warranty is nice, tho most name brands at this level include same, and this one listed a TBW (Terabytes Written, or Total Bytes Written as brochure puts it) of 600TB for this 1 TB model, which is the highest I have seen for this type of SSD (moving up to an 860 Pro would double it, but ... Couple of minor problems w shortcuts afterwards, but that's because I shifted the partitions around a little when cloning, so my own doing (minor).Utility that told me my startup under original 7200rpm drive was pretty good at 39 seconds (better than most, it said), basically now says the same thing except at 19 seconds, so about twice as fast. I notice that the machine feels faster, but not at the OMG levels I have seen some people speak of.Picked up a Corsair Dual SSD mounting bracket for 5 bucks. (Forget this when placing my order, got later.)At any rate, I am very pleased with this purchase!
I have been curious about SSD for a while now. I usually see them as 256/512 GB. I have a desktop that has a hybrid SSD HD with a small SSD storage allotment. Personally, I did not notice much of an improvement on that system from four years ago. I installed this drive into my gaming rig replacing a standard SATA Drive. I cloned it with Acronos without any problem. I disconnected my old drive and fired up the box. It did seem to boot up faster, but truth be told I did not pay much attention to the first time. I had always heard that you should put the operating system on the SSD and use the standard HD as a “storage drive” for data and rarely used programs. I assume that was due to the smaller SSD drives. With the 1TB to use I kept only my most frequently used programs and games on the SSD and of course the Win 10 operating system. I moved all the video’s, music and junk over to the standard HD (I kept my original HD intact, just in case). Upon firing up the box after a little bit of housekeeping, I noticed a substantial decrease in the booting time, also by the time I got past the password screen everything was ready to go in less than 30 seconds, very impressive. Details: No cables included, no directions, compatible with 2.5 7mm Sata drives in laptops, desktops and PlayStation. Very happy with the performance, should have done this years ago. The Samsung 860 QVO 1 Tb is worth buying, you will be so happy you did.
I used Acronis True Image software (which I already owned) to clone my existing hard drive. It took about 45 minutes and was pretty straightforward. I was apprehensive when I put the laptop back together and turned it on, hoping it would work. Windows booted immediately and everything I had on my original hard drive now worked on my SSD. The only program requiring re-authentication was Office 2010 and I did that with one click of the mouse. Taking my laptop apart was a challenge as two screws on the back were covered up and I initially missed them, making it a bit frustrating. Once I discovered those additional screws and took them out, the entire replacement of the drive and reassembly of the laptop took only about 15 minutes. I had been looking at the possibility ... I had been looking at the possibility of replacing my laptop because it was so slow but now it's a keeper. This upgrade, along with changing my default browser to the new Chromium Edge browser (still in development with a 1/15/20 anticipated release date) have made my laptop purchase of many years ago a much longer term investment. Hurrah, Hurrah, Hurrah! Note that I had also been looking at the WD Blue 1TB SSD which is very similar and on sale $10 cheaper than this drive. Probably either one would have satisfied me but the Samsung is clearly a worthwhile purchase for me.
it's about the best sata SSD you can get... what out for QVE rather then EVO, i made that mistake and had to send ity back. you pay a premium for this one cause it's triple layer cell ssd. QVE is quad layer. still better then most will ever need, but i see myself using this till it doesn't work anymore. anyways, because i intend to wear it out, i paid the premium. if i was putting it into my kid's laptop or the wife's.. i don't see them using it to that extent since it can last for several petabytes written before it actually lets go, so yeah a patriot or sandisk or w/e else would do fine. i had a kingdian 500gb in my laptop and wanted more space so i got that, but realistically, the cheapo kindian worked fine and the speeds are close enough to not really notice to ...
