I’ve encountered conflicting information about this issue, some saying TRIM is crucial (har, har), and some saying the OS takes care of it even for non-Apple drives.

FAKE product. I had reviewed it earlier but you did not publish the review which makes me wonder why? There is another reviewer James who has similar experience. This is a fake Samsung 4TB drive. The speeds are of a flash drive. I believe they are packing 256 of 512gb flash drive modules inside the metal enclosure and have somehow connected this to work as single drive. But one can easily see that its fake product. The sticker label on the drive was of a 250gb Samsung Evo. The bottom statement below words Samsung is a different Font. Initialization is a problem. Somehow I managed to get it working but writing speeds are abysmal at 28-56MBS instead of a real Samsungs 480-500MBS plus speeds. In a nutshell this seller should be banned for scamming people who do not know the difference. Luckily walmart has a good return policy of product under 300$ can be returned at local walmart store and the technician at my local walmart store recognized this as fake after looking at the label and other information I gave him. So I was refunded. Thank you very much as this is a good policy. Buyer beware was something I realized at hindsight later because any real Samsung SSD of 4TB will not be less than 350$. I had added photos of its fake label previously but did not save that photo. So cannot add it for now.

GREAT PERFORMANCE, DURABILITY AND VALUE!!!

Great product but sata is a older dying format currently being replaced by nvme m.2 and others. That isn't any fault if this product though so in light of that this product is a good product in that it does what they promise performance wise and even can surpass those promised speeds but with a few caveats when using samsungs magician software to boost the performance. I like the magician software as well my only gripe with it is that it only supports samsung drives when it comes to certain features and stats. The drive runs incredibly cool Temps wise and I really like how the software tracks the life span and shows it to you with all other kinds of performance info on the easy to read and easy to find dashboard. For systems like mine that only came with one m.2 slot the sata drives can be a welcomed addition to expanding your storage capabilities. For me I have actually 8 drives in total on my pc several are sata 3 and several are ran threw a nmve to pcie adapter, and I use it for mostly gaming but have plans on using it for a storage server so this way I can have my own free cloud storage set up in the near future.

It has great speeds compared to the older HDD I was using. Before the computer was practically impossible to operate normally. Nothing wrong with the software though. The CPU was working fine. I almost gave up on this old girl. But instead I took a little risk and decided on trying out a replacement Samsung SSD. And it has given me what feels like essentially a new computer maybe not as fast as some of the newer rigs out there. But for an 9 year old top of the end laptop. It still holds up. I'm all about recycling and getting the most out of a product so we aren't creating waste. So thank you Samsung for giving it a new life. Next year it will probably be retired from editing. But I guarantee it still has another 5 years after that as a entry level computer for some kid that just needs to do homework.

Upgraded to this after my nealry six-year old FireCuda SSHD started failing. Is it one of the, if not the fastest SATA SSDs on the market? Yes. Will you effectively perceive all that speed? Maybe. Moving on from the hybrid drive did net me some major improvements in overall load times in games like Age of Empires 4 where load times were cut down in half but otherwise in more streamlined games, I didn't see that much of a difference. The biggest difference however came with moving data. Since this was a replacement for a failing drive, moving files into the disk was way faster than moving it out of the old one.I was a little excited to use the Samsung Magician software to clone my disk but it doesn't support that feature on non Samsung storages unfortunately. I wanted to register it for the official warranty and the site also has been broken for a while, with the login page not working. At the end of the day, the biggest benefit to speed will be seen in data heavy softwares like video editing tools, specifically if you're coming from a spinning rust disk. If you're in the market for a SATA SSD coming from one of the HDDs then even the more budget oriented Crucial SSDs will do plenty.TL:DR - If you're specifically only after having the fastest SSDs on the market, this is for you. If you're simply looking to upgrade, go for something that's better value for money.

With 8TB of storage, I had plenty of room to store my extensive collection of files, documents, photos, and videos. It's perfect for users who require a large amount of storage for gaming, multimedia, or professional purposes. In terms of performance, the Samsung 870 QVO SSD delivers reliable and speedy data transfers. The SATA interface ensures compatibility with a wide range of devices, and the sequential read and write speeds are commendable. I noticed that file transfers and application loading times were noticeably faster compared to traditional hard drives, resulting in a smoother overall computing experience.Installation was straightforward, thanks to the included migration software that made transferring data from my previous storage device a breeze. The drive itself is well-built and durable, ensuring the safety of my valuable data. One aspect to consider is that while the Samsung 870 QVO SSD provides reliable performance, it may not match the speeds of more advanced NVMe SSDs. However, for everyday tasks and general storage needs, it offers more than enough speed and responsiveness.Another consideration is the price point. As with any high-capacity SSD, the cost per terabyte is higher compared to smaller capacity drives. However, considering the ample storage space and the performance boost it provides, the investment is worthwhile for users who require vast storage capabilities. In conclusion, the Samsung 870 QVO 8TB Internal SSD SATA is a reliable and spacious storage solution. Its impressive capacity, solid performance, and ease of installation make it a great choice for users seeking a large storage drive. Whether you're a content creator, a data hoarder, or simply in need of a dependable storage solution, this SSD delivers on its promises. While it may not offer the fastest speeds available, it provides a significant improvement over traditional hard drives and ensures a smooth computing experience.

[Rewarded Review] Lucked out, like new!!!
19 September 2024

Took a chance on an 870 EVO 1TB refurb as a recent $5 rewards certificate was due to expire.Ordered on 9/13, shipped from Bowling Green, Ohio on 9/16 via FedEx, arrived in SE MN on 9/18.Ending up matching in price a new 870 EVO 1TB I got from BB back in February 2023 (but ~$10 more than the one I got from BB in June of 2023).Both also using $5 rewards certificates.Shipping box was 11x9x3 inches with no packing so drive box slid/bounced around. (But not an issue with an SSD.)Owner was impatient with the drive box and ripped it open instead of "slicing" the black 1TB sticker/tape at the top left corner. The owner's manual was never opened.Drive was wiped, needed to create a GPT partition and simple volume in Disk Management.TBW 98GB, Power On Count 5, ... MoreTook a chance on an 870 EVO 1TB refurb as a recent $5 rewards certificate was due to expire.Ordered on 9/13, shipped from Bowling Green, Ohio on 9/16 via FedEx, arrived in SE MN on 9/18.Ending up matching in price a new 870 EVO 1TB I got from BB back in February 2023 (but ~$10 more than the one I got from BB in June of 2023).Both also using $5 rewards certificates.Shipping box was 11x9x3 inches with no packing so drive box slid/bounced around. They had a similar TBW and Power On count when the install was done.)Evidently the OS install failed and the owner bailed without extensive troubleshooting.His/her loss, my gain. Woo-hoo!!! I lucked out with an essentially new 870 EVO 1TB instead of one that was burned up with mining, etc.Being paranoid, ran the diagnostics in Magician. The Diagnostic Full Scan completed successfully but took much longer than the previous two 1TBs.But I had the EVO in an Orico 6619S3-BK dock, the USB3 interface evidently slowed things down.Confirmed when I saw the Performance Benchmark was not supported.I moved the SSD to a system with an available SATA 3 port. Then I ran the Performance Benchmark and the Extended SMART Self-test which completed successfully. In conclusion, I feel a tiny bit less bad about not jumping on more SSDs when the prices crashed. I, like most everyone else, assumed the prices would always decline. [Phooey]
