My third Samsung T-series portable SSD drive delivers speed and reliable storage for my photos in Lightroom Classic. The T7 is noticeably faster than my previous external HDD. When I import large files from a shoot, the drive is no longer a performance bottleneck. Since I am using Windows 10, I formatted the T7 with NTFS (instead of the file system it was formatted with). NTFS is a more reliable and performant file storage system. I always keep a backup copy in sync. I am a big fan of cloud storage but when you are not in a location with fast internet upload speed, the T7 SSD shows its strength.

In every aspect this drive works as expected and is a solid choice for an external/mobile ssd. There is one issue that seems to have a fix that worked for me at least. On both the T7 (and the T5) the drive would randomly disconnect with an error. After a couple days of internet searches a recommendation was to download & the "Samsung Portable SSD Software" directly from Samsungs website instead of using the software provided on the hard drive. (It's the same app and I don't understand why this would make a difference other than the one factory pre-loaded may be out of date). After using the software to perform an update, both my T7 and T5 drives stopped disconnecting with an error... at least they haven't for about a month now. I'm not tech savvy enough to explain exactly what it is but outside of this issue the drive works fast & seems reliable. It's very solidly built, sleek, and small.

I have been using this for about 6 weeks. I have found it to perform super well and according to specs, giving me the very high transfer rates advertised. One downside of this device for me seems to be that it does not play well with other USB attached storage on my machine, I have to detach other USB sticks and drives for it to want to work properly. When I have another USB stick connected it will sometimes connect at lower speed or disconnect randomly. Connecting another USB storage device when this one is connected causes it to disconnect! Weird behavior, but I am dealing with it since the performance is great.I also had issues with the USBC cable that came with the drive, but B&H were kind enough to send me a replacement and have had no issues with that one.

Compact, sleek, lightweight yet durable. Very portable, can carry in small pockets or compartments. Requires USB-C cord (both ends USB-C) to connect to device. The particular item I received mounts and unmounts without any issues; a previous 500 GB device I bought elsewhere never un-mounts properly, it always gets stuck and I end up having to Force Eject it.
I was expecting this to be around the size of a standard 2.5 SSD, but this is WAY smaller. I've needed fast storage that I can edit on while I'm on the go and this solves that problem perfectly.Make sure you use a real USB 3.1 cable and proper port. The difference is insane. It wrote my last two filming sessions at 280MB/s using a USB-C 3.1 connection, and reads so quickly I can edit directly off of it.Definitely worth the money
This ssd will record no problem raw footage from a Cinema Pocket 4k and a Zcam E2 4K. Which is not a surprise since these cameras can work with the older T5. When it shines compared to that one, though, is when it comes to editing timelines directly from the SSD (with multiple timelines). You can have three clips, 4K, Prores/Braw/Prores Raw in parallel in your timeline and they will play no problem from this SSD (and you can probably have more - I didn't stressed it with more parallel clips).
The 2-star rating applies to using this SSD with a MacBook Air (M2) and with Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and S8+ tablet. With windows laptop, the SSD works flawlessly. With a Mac and my other Samsung devices, it's a nightmare. On the Mac, the Samsung SSD laptop software doesn't show the SSD as attached and periodically I have to delete the software and reinstall it (which is why I'm visiting the Samsung website today). On the S21 Ultra and S8+, even if the Samsung mobile app is working and you manage to access the SSD, 2 things happen - the Phone and Tablet both want to 'fix' the SSD and re-format it (deleting all my files).. I ignore this, but it freaks me out every time. The second thing is that the Phone/Table send a persistent notification to restart the Phone/Tablet, which I eventually do just to get rid of the notification. I'm pretty sure the issue relates to having 'security' enabled and the structure of the drive having an un-protected volume and protected volume and the un-protected volume being 'ejected' when you log into the protected volume. I'm also sure this could be fixed (definitely by disabling security - but what is the point of an unprotected SSD??) or formatting the drive to only have one volume - but that's way beyond my technical capability. I just expect the SSD to work. Incidentally, I don't have any of these problems with Sandisk SSDs.Its funny that's the manufacturers Samsung devices seems to have the most issue with, is other Samsung devices...! Would I buy a Samsung SSD again? no way (unless it was to be used exclusively with a windows laptop)
I bought this T7 drive for my new Mac Studio, doing some occasional video editing and photo editing. When the drive arrived it was fast, 600-700 MB/s read and write. Now less than a year later the write speed has dropped off a cliff ago 60-70 MB/s. The drive is only half full and is plugged into the Studio's Tb4 port. With write speeds like that I might as well be using and old spinning HDD. Not sure what happened, but very disappointed. Will be looking for a new SSD from another brand.
I picked this up remembering that I had a 250gb Samsung EVO inside my old iMac after the OEM drive died; had great lick with that drive and this is no different. This thing is positively TINY. About the size of a credit card, only a little over a quarter inch thick, and can tuck just about anywhere for safe keeping. LIGHTNING FAST transfer rates and has been serving the purpose as my working drive for photo processing and editing.Kudos, Samsung. This rocks.
I use this T7 (500GB, 1 TB) for image file and catalog storage in Lightroom Classic with the USB-C or USB-3 cables, depending on my computer. The solid metal enclosure, quality cable and super-reliable electronics make this an excellent choice when shooting with a laptop or moving the drive between different PCs. I frequently clone/sync to a backup drive. While I am a big fan of cloud storage, my LR-Classic database is so large that a local storage-plus-backup is my preferred way of working. And it is speedier. Especially with the USB-C connection on a modern laptop, the speed is almost indistinguishable from an internal SSD drive.
