A desirable telephoto for Fuji X-mount mirrorless cameras, the 85mm f/1.8 Lens from Samyang pairs a sleek form factor with a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture for depth of field control and greater versatility in difficult lighting conditions. The optical design features one extra-low dispersion element, which reduces chromatic aberrations and color fringing, and one high refractive index element to control spherical aberrations for improved sharpness. An Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied to boost contrast by suppressing lens flare and ghosting. Additionally, the lens has a manual focus design for precise focusing down to 2.1' and a nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth bokeh quality. Telephoto prime is designed for APS-C-format Fuji X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 127.5mm equivalent focal length. Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also affords extensive control over depth of field for isolating subjects and working with selective focus techniques. One extra-low dispersion element is used to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce imagery with a high degree of clarity and color fidelity. A high refractive index element is used to control spherical aberrations and distortions in order to realize higher sharpness and accurate rendering. An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to all lens elements in order to suppress lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy. This manual focus lens has a non-rotating 62mm front filter mount to better enable the use of polarizing, graduated ND, and other filter types that require precise positioning. Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when using selective focus or shallow depth of field techniques.

The Samyang 85mm 1.8 is a well engineered, compact cost effective lens, good portrait length. I purchased the lens specifically for portrait work, so the fact that it is a manual lens is not a handicap in my case. The optics are excellent, so all in all a very good buy

Using this manual focus lens wide open is no problem as images snap in and out of focus. Great results for the price and nice handling. Light weight with a good solid feel and a smooth positive focus movement. An excellent travel telephoto when you don't want to carry a bigger zoom lens around with very good image quality for the money.

Its my view these lenses deserve a wider audience. Samyang has a track record, they did not simply appear out of nowhere. And they are a South Korean company, not Chinese, as Viltrox is. This lens is solidly constructed, razor-sharp and exceptionally affordable. The corners and edges exceed the Fuji 90mm f2, while the centre frame comes as close as makes no difference. The lens looks and feels good, is nearly 200g lighter than the significantly larger (and slightly slower) Fuji lens, and maintains top performance up to f5.6 when the Fuji tails off at f4. It IS manual focus. There is no metadata or weather-sealing, either. Strongly recommended, provided you can live with manual focus. And you can!
Quite compact for 85mm - certainly compared to previous iteration. Fantastically sharp wide-open and edges are very good throughout range. You need to work with camera's manual focus tools such as focus peaking to get quick and confident. Very rewarding with Fujifilm cameras.Superb results which will satisfy shallow depth-of-field junkies. I usually use my Fujifilm 60mm f/2.4 but hankered after a little more of everything. As usual with Samyang lenses, you get very sturdy build quality, clicked aperture control and nicely resistant focus control. If focus travel was a little longer to get slightly more fine control it would get 6 stars.Brilliant value.
