I just started using the lens and I am impressed with a bunch of things. I love the low profile of the lens and it matches the small frame of the a6000 mirrorless body. The lens comes with a hood that cane be attached permanently without having to swap out on a shoot. If you go with the built in lens hood, be sure to order the smaller filter to cover the lens. You can have the hood on along with the 40.5mm uv filter and solve both issues of reducing flare and protecting the lens. Clever design. I wish the lens was f1.8, but beggars can't be choosers. A nice solid lens... that has good optics.

All around a great lens!It feels a little cheap in the hands with the plastic and the lens hood is a little silly. I wish they would have included a second 49mm cap to use as I never use the hood with its 40.5mm cap/filter threads anyway.Pretty sharp in the center 80-85% of the frame Wide open at 2.8 with some pretty noticeable CA With the heavy green/magenta’s as you go the the edge of the frame. Also has a moderate (on the heavy side of moderate but not unmanageable) amount of Vignette in general (Light room does fairly well with the lens correction on this one)Would have loved to see a weather gasket on this one.I see a lot of people having problems with theirs over time but mine seems to be holding out nicely considering it’s been my “daily beater/wont cry ... MoreAll around a great lens!It feels a little cheap in the hands with the plastic and the lens hood is a little silly. I always recommended all my friend to buy from B&H but i purchased 2 items from here in last year, this Samyang arrived with a BIG DIRT in the middle of the lenses and cannot be removed, and it shows in photos at f 16 as a big black dot. and also the mitakon 50mm 0.95 arrived "well" but when i tried it, the lens produces terrible bokeh and definition because 2 element where in touch and i communicate with B&H but i must take charge of the shipping back and if i do this, i will be paying another time the DHL bills of customs that they overcharged Everytime because here in Argentina the taxes are of 50% and DHL charged me 70% (not included the shipping cost)in resume, now I've lost all my hope in resolving the problem with my lenses. and I'll never buy anything again ... MoreI always recommended all my friend to buy from B&H but i purchased 2 items from here in last year, this Samyang arrived with a BIG DIRT in the middle of the lenses and cannot be removed, and it shows in photos at f 16 as a big black dot. and also the mitakon 50mm 0.95 arrived "well" but when i tried it, the lens produces terrible bokeh and definition because 2 element where in touch and i communicate with B&H but i must take charge of the shipping back and if i do this, i will be paying another time the DHL bills of customs that they overcharged Everytime because here in Argentina the taxes are of 50% and DHL charged me 70% (not included the shipping cost)in resume, now I've lost all my hope in resolving the problem with my lenses. and I'll never buy anything again here. lesson learned.

I purchased this as I wanted a 35mm that would be compact and reasonable price-wise. The lens was shipped promptly and arrived quickly. The lens is extremely light and compact and fits very well on the a6300 and a7r2. While it offers good quality when it comes to snapping photos, I found the video to be unusable. The autofocus noise that people have been talking about IS truly an issue for video. Basically, the noise is perceptible at 2.8 but becomes more and more noticeable as the lens is stopped down. If I'm not mistaken, it comes from the rubbing of the aperture blades onto one another. For video, the lens keeps hunting and creates not only a sound issue but a jittery effect also. In conclusion, if you intend to take pictures only, the Rokinon/Samyang is a solid ... MoreI purchased this as I wanted a 35mm that would be compact and reasonable price-wise. I have had this lense for about a week now and have had the chance to spend several days shooting with it. I have shot several hundred photos and used it in a variety of situations and conditions so I feel like I have a good handle on the lens. I think this lens is amazing. It's the first auto focus lens I've used on my a7 since getting it over a year ago so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but it's quite sharp even from f2.8 and it snaps into focus very quickly. I have zero complaints about the lens so far. If I used it primarily for video I might not like the af noise, but I almost exclusively shoot photos so it doesn't bother me. It's not that loud anyway. What really makes this lens shine though is it's size. Obviously this lens isn't going to beat a competitor for $2k, but for less than CAD$400 this lens provides high value for the money. The auto-focus is decently fast, pretty quite and accurate. In my experience there's been very little hunting if at all. It's also very sharp and consistent across the frame... again, it's not going to beat a GMaster for sharpness, but it's very solid.I bought this lens to have something small and light to walk around the city with and take quick shots here and there - and it's perfect for that. But I've also used it for everything from landscape to portraits and it performed well. Below I've attached a crop of a wider shot that will hopefully show up at 100% scale and you can see the details in the water, the trees, etc.
Probably a decent lens for still photography, but noise makes it unsuitable for video. The lens makes a continuous humming/rattling sound when in any but manual focus mode, and the noise comes through clearly in the audio. Note that this is not the occasional very faint sound made by the focusing mechanism, which (despite comments from some other reviewers) does not come through in audio. I verified the problem by testing two of these, which behaved identically. B&H customer service was flawless, as usual.I did very much like the size and handling characteristics of the lens and will probably order the very similar but much more expensive Zeiss version farther down the line (assuming that it doesn't have the same problem!). I bought this lens for my a7II as an inexpensive alternative to the Zeiss 35mm f/2.8. The hope was to have a lightweight travel companion that was bright enough to use in low-light situations without bumping up ISO values too much.I had read previous reviews about slow and inaccurate focusing, loud noise, and so-so optics. Honestly, I've found none of those complaints to be true with my copy of this lens, and my overall experience has been quite positive. It could very well be that some customers have received lemons, but that's the luck of the draw with most mirrorless optics, it seems.Sure, there's some motor noise, but it's no worse than other autofocus lenses I've used before. The sound is reminiscent of the Nikon G-series primes or Canon's STM lenses, not the grinding spasms of cheap, plastic film SLR lenses. The overall build quality makes it feel like a kinder toy, but the same can be said about most small, pancake-like lenses for other systems.Focusing speed and accuracy is more than acceptable. It's not exactly lightning quick in AF-S, but it's fast enough that I didn't think it was any slower than the average modern prime lens. Precision is good enough to do AF-C with Lock-On AF, so long as your subjects aren't moving too fast. (Think street photography, or focus-and-recompose, not sports.)Image quality is rather pleasing, subjectively speaking. Sharpness across the frame is consistent, even wide open, and I've found little evidence of chromatic aberrations -- you might find some LoCA before and after the plane of focus in high-contrast situations, but it's not bothersome. Bokeh is relatively smooth, but there's some outlining around out-of-focus highlights, if that sort of thing bothers you.The optical compromise for delivering such a small lens is the presence of pincushion distortion, though it's most evident when photographing subjects near the closest focal distances. Vignetting is present, but it falls in a gentle manner that I find pleasing. If you turn on in-camera corrections or apply them later in editing software, you'll never notice either of these optical faults, which are hardly offensive to begin with.If you're looking for a small, compact lens for your Sony A7/A9 camera that doesn't strain a tight budget, you've just found it. I hope this review helps.
I am more than happy with this lens. There are no bells and whistles and it doesn't feel quite as solid as an expensive lens, but the image quality is really excellent. I have paid much more for lenses that are not as sharp as this one. It is already very good wide open at 2.8 and really fantastic as you close down. It is super light weight. For those times that you don't want to lug your camera around, hiking for example, this lens is perfect. It's like a standard focal length lens on a full frame camera with an equivalent of 52mm. The lens "shade" is a bit bizarre, but I already had a 40.5mm filter for the PZ16-50 kit lens (which is nowhere near as sharp) as well as a third party shade that mounts to the kit lens via a40.5 to 52 mm step up ring. Cool little lens BUT a video problem / issue. I have an A7sII with a G master 24-70 (huge and heavy) and needed a small lens to run around with for general photos and videos. Photo wise this is a nice, inexpensive auto focusing lens - although it is slow to focus and hunts focus too much. I WOULD keep it except for one real problem: It makes a HORRIBLE clicking/ticking noise while in video mode. You can easily hear it being near/around the camera and it ruins a video. Hey Rokinon VERSION 2 needs a quiet motor and you will have a winner! ?RETURNING IT.? Bought it here via Amazon. Video at Amazon with the noise.
